I bought Hired History when this song first came out. Just listened to this again and forgot how brilliant this song is. Love the whole atmosphere of the song. The harmonies are stunning. This song has stood the test of time. Dated well. Love it. The guys should have reached the same level as the Pet shop boys.
Wonderful song, such a shame it didn't bring the band the success they deserved. Bought the single back then and treasured it. And played it loads. Love it
I can't believe this has never reached the charts. This song is of outstanding quality. Reminds me a bit of Save A Prayer from Duran Duran. Very intense and humble at the same time.
I have a lot of love and admiration for Fiat Lux. Alongside China Crisis, they’re the two 80s acts that I adore just because they seemed like ordinary chaps who might not have been the biggest bands ever, but they got the opportunity to make the albums they wanted to make, you know, they got a shot at fame to make their mark on music. They might not have been successful at all or for very long, but they actually got music made, that they probably had a lot of passion behind, you know. This song and Blue Emotion are genuinely two of my favourite 80s songs for that reason.
After all these years do i finally know what this obscure mid 80s minor hit was after just a short untitled clip from the long dead Music Box channel when I had Cable TV.
Why was this never a hit, how did the public miss this, what chances do we have of getting this re released again with a big push and achieving a top 40 track
This video is peculiar, in a good way. Anyone who remembers British children's television from the 1970s and early 1980s will recognise the unsettling strangeness!
This is such a beautiful track and never bores !. Thanks for posting this video ... which can finally be seen in great quality. (i made the other bad quality video of it in 2006 (from an old Vhs tape) on my previous discoimperium account, and has been floating around on youtube ever since).
Good old Music Box! Suni, Gaz Top, Simon Potter, Martin Buchanan etc. I discovered so much music through it and them.....such as Point of No Return by Nu Shooz, The Promise You Made by Cock Robin, Good Friends by Joni Mitchell, and - of course - Secrets by Fiat Lux. 35 years later, and they're all on a gadget that was inconceivable back then.....my iPod.
A lost golden age.
This song should have been Uk number 1
Total masterpiece!
I worked on a farm in Middlestown near Wakefield at the time when this band rehearsed in a barn that was owned by the farmer.
Why was this never Top 40 in the uk. Shouldve been massive
this beautiful song only reached no. 65 in january 84 in Uk top 100, it's sad, but it's timeless....👍
@@danielatrump9012 Incredibly, it made the top 20 in New Zealand.
@@alfredagain Yep exactly, and a top 20 hit in Australia as well 😎
Was played regularly on Annie nightingale on Sundays after the charts
She was the female version of the great John Peel... Always playing tracks that were more left field if not sadly chart successful.
@@alfielock3603 Although not a hit single in their native UK, was a hit single in Australia, + New Zealand getting top 20!
The 80ies were the best time of my life ... and this song was a favourite back then ( and still is ).
2.10.. So what are you thinking.. that you’ve got one up on me… is that what really matters.. is that the most.. ‘best bridge ever?’ Damn.

Epic band. Criminal they aren't well known
They were known in UK as were on a number of TV music shows + on radio but didn't have a hit sngle/album but did esp in New Zealand + Australia!
This is an extraordinary track....you can feel the spirits of the mid 1980s

Didn't China Crisis have a fair bit of success? Less than they deserved though, same with Fiat Lux. It must have been frustrating!
Very pleased that Universal Music have digitally restored and made available in high quality the full promo video of this song .
Love this song, cruely ignored a class act!

On my 80's hit playlist & will always be :)
Such an epic song, brought back passive aggressive memories from the song growing up as a teenager then
Great song thankyou.
Fantastic. The most underrated band in the '80s
Обожаю эту песню,она божественная!
Why was this never a hit, how did the public miss this, what chances do we have of getting this re released again with a big push and achieving a top 40 track
It did, was a top 20 hit in New Zealand, + Australia!
A little almost unknown masterpiece! I remember this song from early '80.... great years
Just found the vinyl single from this song 😊

Hooray. At last HD version of this video makes it to YOU TUBE. Thank you. Now I can appreciate that cardigan in full colourful glory.
Dedicated to an old boy with an
EMPTY SOUL...
Thanks.

60years New Romantic. I love it
fond memories of the 80s 😊
Great video. Remember watching it on Music Box with Suni and Gaz Top. Cutting edge at the time. One of the best non-hits of the 80s. Happy memories.

Sound like Depeche mode
See you in Leeds with the Chinas lads
Is it just me but the bass player reminds me of Nick Beggs (obviously it isn't)
Yes I see the similarities!
Great song thankyou.
