I did some digging. It was said that the School of the Cat had female Witchers. witcher.fandom.com/wiki/School_of_the_Cat - that information specifically is from a Pen and Paper game which is based on the novels. Whether the Witcheress detail was added by the Pen and Paper game itself OR was already mentioned in the books, I am not sure. In "The Witcher" a woman named Rayla, a book character, underwent a form of the trial, got the Witcher mutagens and survived, Geralt killed her in a fight. Hard to call her a Witcher, we also don't know if it was the well-known "trial of the grasses" but it were definitely the Witcher mutagens stolen from Kaer Morhen. So we know that females can survive the injection of the Witcher mutagens. I found a text that states Vesimirs "daughter" was a Witcheress, but was killed by a monster? I'll have to do more research though. I assume CDPR will explain how Ciris trial went, they mentioned such. I have a feeling that she might have gone off on her own adventures after TW3 while Geralt remains in Corvo Bianco or Kaer Morhen. Maybe she happened upon a newly formed (Lynx?) or reinstated school (Cat?) that had been researching and testing over the years, to "perfect" the chemical dosages, to lower mortality rate and increase the survival chances for every participant, no matter the gender. Maybe CDPR will use that Pen-and-Paper idea as a base. Is it possible that the second conjunction of spheres has an impact too? All we can do at this point is speculate. I agree that I don't think Geralt or Yennefer would support the idea of Ciri undergoing the trial, especially given the risk. BUT to put it in Uncle Vesimirs words "She always was a an unruly child". Very interesting stuff! For anyone interested in Witcher lore @ProperBird aka Jinzee has an amazing playlist called "Witcher Stories" with deep insights into Witcher lore. Rayla was no Witcher, she was a Soldier. If Vesemir has had a daughter... dont know, cant remember his stories but would be surprising, because Witchers are infertile. In one of the games, their were hints about Legends of very few female and powerful Witchers. These were special Women with other power, which they lost through Trial of Grasses. ... or something like this. Can't remember exactly, but didn't Geralt and Yennefer although talk about this in witcher 3? Watching the Trailer I assumed that's why Ciri has lost her Teleportation Power.
There’s actually nothing in the lore saying that there’s never been a female Witcher but it’s assumed because they’re never talked about and we never see any. In the book Blood of Elves when Triss first sees Ciri she notes that “the little Witcher girl with green eyes” (paraphrased and in reference to Ciri). She also notes after some observation that Ciri had not yet undertaken the trial of grasses. Why bother with considering it if it wasn’t possible? Triss could just be naive but I don’t think so. In the TW3 the is a part where you put Uma through the trial of grasses and they do so thinking that Uma is possibly Ciri. And they act as if it’s possible Ciri could survive it though likely be messed up, maybe unemotional, maybe too emotional, maybe even lose the elder blood powers. So CDPR in the TW3 already said she could possibly survive the trial through that scene. But the cat school stuff that most people are mentioning is from an old table top game. I am not sure about TW1 though. Didn’t think there was any mention of her having been through the trial. It’s been a very long time since I played that though.
Ciri's face actually reminds me of singer Debbie Harry (Blondie), when she was in her 20s. Very beautiful and strong. I think this game is going to be a knockout success, despite the nonsensical drama I'm seeing out there. Can't wait to see more development on this next Witcher game. This was a very agreeable breakdown, LIZZ. Ty for sharing.
I hope they work the Dr Moreau stuff from Blood and Wine into the idea of how Ciri was able do the mutations, simply because it would be a cool idea that Geralt took the research on at his vinyard and helped her establish a new school.
When i played witcher 3, i got the witcher ending. If i remember correctly, the narrator during the closing credits said that geralt and ciri traveled together for a time and geralt tought her everything he knew before she set off on her own. I hope we get to see that in the game. Be nice to see them spending time together with geralt teaching her witcher stuff
The game is at an advanced level. About 450 people are working on this project and CDPR wants to ensure that previous mistakes are not made and that the game will be polished. One more thing, Sapkowski advised and advises on The Wicher 4. LIZZ, you presented everything very well, respect. Greetings from Poland...
really love your energy and as a huge fan myself it feels good to see someone else also be so passionate about the lore and characters of this universe, lets hope they make this game as great as they did with Witcher 3!
You are my new favorite gamer channel! That was an excellent breakdown, very knowledgeable and with a twinkle in your eye! From this trailer I looking forward to this game. Ciri makes an excellent protagonist. I am so glad she looks like a real witcher, well protected, a bit battered and with a rage inside due to all cruelties she has witnessed, like in the trailer.
it makes so much sense to me that Ciri is the one carrying the series forward. They set it up that way in witcher 3. Looking forward to the game, If I live that long lol
@@waltdistel716 no, they have confirmed this is a monster hunting quest (side content) in the game. They revealed it during an interview, I forget which interview it was though... So he probably meant it that Mione can be saved. Edit: the interview I saw them mentioning that was the easy allies one.
Fun fact... The inscriptions that Geralt had engraved on the sword for Ciri in the Witcher 3 ending come from one of Geralt's first swords, as described in the latest book "The Crossroads of Crows". It turns out that Ciri's beginnings as a witcher are similar to Geralt's own beginnings. What's interesting is that CDPR might have referenced this back when they made Witcher 3, and the book was only released a week ago.
There's a bunch of blatant misinfo being spread around by certain people saying that "CDPR isn't the same company anymore" or "there's no one left at CDPR who made the previous Witcher games", and all they need to do is do a quick google search and you'll see that many of the same devs are working on this lol, including the lead writer for the Witcher 3 and a bunch of others so why the hell are people trying so desperately to spread lies? Hell just look up who the guy in that video is and what he worked on
@@navarro4043 It’s not so much blatant misinformation as it is a half truth. MUCH of the talent has left. All 3 creative directors on Witcher 3 are gone as well as both producers. Basically the top 5 or 6 highest up positions on that game have left. The current creative director of Witcher 4 was just an animator on Witcher 3 and eventually animation lead on Blood and Wind DLC. So yes, many of the top creative minds behind Witcher 3 have left. But there’s still plenty of OG people remaining.
@@epilisium In the last game, Ciri's power prevented the end of her world. It could happen again. So, unless she has children, she is dooming her world to a freezing death. _Witchers are sterile._ So her gift can't be passed on. They made her a villain. The worst person to ever live.
You spoke my heart on this one sis. This was very well presented and I'm grateful for your calm and sound thoughts. I got Ciri's Witcher ending and I was so happy I did. She loves Geralt so much, that's her dad. Being a Witcher for her is how she stays free, instead of bound by an Empire. I'm sure you remember the painting of her at her bio-father's palace, when she was a little girl in the frilly dress and she had that very sad/upset expression in the painting? That spoke volumes and let me know that life is not for her. Very happy we get to see her honor her passion and be a great legacy of Geralt's.
It can be seen from your reactions how much you love this universe. New follower here. If there is one strong point in CDPR (and i think there are many) it is the writing, the best study in that aspect imo. That's why I trust that they can give us a good explanation for Ciri's mutation. I also interpret what director says as that we will be seeing that process in the game. I totally embrace the idea of accompaning Ciri on her path and leting Geralt rest. People complaining probably havent read the books or even played the games, doesnt deserve us wasting a second triying to argue against nonsense hate. Cheers.
Omg please give me a lots of Regis. I would love to do a long quest with Ciri and Regis...and Regis giving fatherly advices to Ciri in most twisted genius ways possible😂
@@LIZZgame I did a post on reddit, basicly this: Honestly, I think Regis with Ciri is a relation that has soo much potential. And him having to go far away to hide after Blood and Wine would be a perfect excuse for him to join Ciri's journey up the North. His more calm and rational aproach would be a nice balance to Ciri's more impulsive and emotional personality
@@Pichuuh Regis said he'd venture further south. So, funnily enough, CDPR would again be retconning themselves if they did that lmao. But there's no reason the game map should be confined to Northern Realms. I'd love to see Nilfgaard, Nazair, etc. Regis guiding Ciri maybe, would be fun. (If you can ignore the fact that Ciri is a Nilfgaardian princess.)
@@zydrate5098 Thats not exactly what he says, this is: "Distance is of the essence, I thought I might venture south" So not definitive direction, just needs to be distant
As a wise man once said "Let them cook". I've been crafting lots of theories in prep for some videos, for The Witcher 4's release and OG trilogy replay. I've got lots on my mind but here's something to think about. They said the village is far north and isolated. If Ciri roamed as far north as possible, it’s plausible she stumbled across a forgotten Witcher school. Imagine this: - The Lynx School, unlike the Wolf or Cat Schools, retreated into obscurity centuries ago due to wars, monster declines, or internal conflicts. - Their existence becomes legend, whispered in old stories but lost to time. - Ciri, with her Elder Blood powers and unparalleled ability to travel across time and space, finds the school during her journeys and helps rebuild it. This would make Ciri a key figure in the Lynx School’s revival without making her its founder-honoring her wanderer’s nature while connecting her deeply to the school’s lore. The Witcher schools as we know them relied on the Trial of the Grasses, a brutal process that only 3 out of 10 boys survived-and even then, none were women or adults. The knowledge to conduct these trials was destroyed during the attack on Kaer Morhen, leaving the witcher population dwindling. If the Lynx School survived in isolation: - They might have preserved forgotten alchemical knowledge or alternative methods for creating witchers. - Perhaps their version of the trials was safer and more advanced-designed for survival in extreme northern conditions, where witchers couldn’t afford to lose recruits. - This method might work on women and adults because it relies on different alchemy or mutations-knowledge lost to other schools.
Thanks! BUT this is not the REACTION, this is my thoughts video to the Breakdown. Here is my reaction: ruclips.net/video/96mkGytpVBo/видео.html&ab_channel=LIZZ
I think you're the first person I've heard mention Regis when talking about Witcher 4 :) I would love to see him again so much, especially considering how he introduced himself to Ciri the first time they met in the books 😂
I am very glad that there are people who first analyze in detail what they have seen, and then make an opinion and not just immediately heckle the developers what they have done, I really love the witcher (my favorite universe) and it hurts me to see how many people fuck the developers what they have done. and I really appreciate people who like me love the witcher and understand the universe. special thanks to you that you are one of the few in witcher I see a real love for the series, good luck to you in all things.
You are very perceptive. 👌 I am encouraged to watch your playthrough W3 Wild Hunt in its entirety. It's a bit of a shame that it's not ‘blind’, but it promises to be good fun anyway. See you on the path. Oh - and you have a new subscriber - by the way.
Found your comment of "Cannot change fate interesting". Maybe Ciri underwent mutation to avoid getting pregnant and give birth to the child that can potentially change the world. So the Bauk is saying she can't escape her fate.
Thank you for this! I'm tired of so many criticizing a female Witcher but anyone that played #3 should be excited to see the development of Ciri's character. I'm stoked for this game!!❤
I'm so hyped.. This looks amazing.. I have only read the graphic novels.. I have been wanting to read the novels though. I have always seen her as the lead. Witcher 3 was so good, I am expecting nothing less of 4.
I am a new fan of yours. I love your content and how passionate you are about The Witcher series. I am so excited for Ciri's tale. Side note: I love your Stalker 2 playthrough series also. Stay awesome!
I liked the trailer as well as the trailer breakdown and I think there's the point in your remarks. The most important thing for me that I saw was the keeping of the spirit of the Witcher saga, its cruelty and beauty.
People will always nitpick things. I read the books and played all the games, and I don't see any issue with what the CD project is going for here. They took some liberty from the books, but that's normal. As you said, they did this already with Witcher 1, 2, and 3. The game will be a success I'm sure of it. I just hope it will not be released in a state like cyberpunk, which worries me more than anything else.
I'm very much looking forward to Witcher 4, both after this trailer but also since CDPR over many years have gained soooo much goodwill from me, through their awesome games, both all the Witchers and Cyberpunk 2077, that I'm fairly sure that they won't disappoint. Also, as a male, I couldn't give less of a bleeeeep about the gender of the protagonist. Loved Geralt but I also loved the parts where you played Ciri in the Witcher 3.
I agree totally. I have read book 1-3 (blood of elves) and it is clear that Ciri is molded into the main protagonist. And I like to explore set characters in games. That is why I like ezio, Bayek and Edward Kenway in AC. Although i like the rpg gender choice of ac odyssey and valhalla it makes the character depth more flawed. Which is why characters like Geralt, Aloy and hopefully Ciri are so interesting.
I am SO READY! And yes I agree with the choice of Ciri as a Witcher in the 4th instalment! I wanted nothing more after finishing Witcher 3. Wawowiwa! It brought a tear to my eye seeing the Blood and Wine ending again with Regis and Geralt 🥲
Really cool video. Mern i cant wait to play this game and the sad thing is, its at least 3-5 years before release. Kind wished they didnt release this now until a year before release of the game though i am still happy i saw this.
I always wished for ciri to be the next Witcher. It will not be the easiest to pull off because under normal circumstances, she would be far too strong to be fun to play. But seeing she's a (real) Witcher now, there must have happened something that weakened her. I'm very curious to see what led to that. In the first shot I was confused by her looks until I realised she's older now. She's far from ugly, just not a 20 year old anymore. And I kinda like it. While I can understand the complaint that they seemingly choose just one end of Witcher 3 to be canon: that's literally what they did after Witcher 1 and 2 as well. I think it's a necessary evil to create a deep story. You need 1 solid foundation. The one problem I see (which might be explained) is that she was immune to the waters of brokilon. Which MIGHT mean she should be immune to mutations. But then again I also read it might just have been destiny that kept her from loosing her way and becoming a dryad. Long story short, the trailer made me very happy and I'm curious to see how this turns out. And I still trust CDPR to write great stories.
I am the most anti-woke person i know, yet i don't have anything against ciri being main character or anything "no woman allowed" type of shit. If they do the writing correct game is gonna be incredible. My only hope is that DEI does not strike there since gamedev companies like to overdo it these days, only time will tell
I completely agree with you on everything. I'm already emotionally invested in Ciri and like her character. I'd rather it be her carrying the torch. Also, I watched the Battle of Kaer Morhen scene today. And Keira saying she has an idea that requires a Witcher and will leave with Lambert got me hypothesizing that she will start the Lynx school and they will find a new methods to make female Witchers. Turns out that is part of rhe Fandom along with a lot of other things like a 2nd Conjunction of spheres, a new world across the sea etc. All plausible reasons for Ciri to go through the trial. Since he confirmed it is Lynx already. I feel like they are going in that direction. I'd Google it if you can.
@@LIZZgame And also Lizz, if you are a big fan of The Witcher like me, there are already 4 interviews on yt with the directors where you can learn a lot more, there is some more informations that is not in the two videos you have seen so far.
@@anotherhappylanding4746 At the end of Witcher 3, Ciri pushes back the White Frost and averts the end of all life in her world. If she becomes a witcher, mutations and all, _she sterilizes herself_ and can't pass on her magic, so when the Frost comes back... _everyone dies._ They made Ciri the most evil person in the world.
@@anotherhappylanding4746 No, it was never stated to be gone for good. And even so, if someone told you, "If I don't have kids there's a chance all life in Earth could die. But, it might not, so I'm sterilizing myself." Would you _not_ have some concerns? Because if not, _you_ might be insane.
As far as I know there is nothing established that women can’t become a Witcher. The only problem is that due to the secrets to become Witcher were lost and that the trial of grasses is a very painful and deadly process and only a few survive the trial. And I think Getalt specifically didn’t want Ciri to go through that process. But I’m pretty sure they’ll explain that in the game why she is a fully fledged Witcher? It’ll be cool that that managed to create an entirely new trial of grasses with the help of the witchers and mages and also with the help of Ciri. Also that Ciri is the leader of the new order (lynx school) and that she perhaps is recruiting and training new witchers. That would be a very cool take in my opinion. I have faith they can make a very good and interesting story and game with Ciri as the protagonist:). Btw great video. 👍 ❤ Also I think we will still play as Geralt in the new Witcher 1 remake:)
Could be that she did it without them knowing. Could be that there is a new procedure that was developed over the years by other parties, another Witcher school. Knowledge thought to be forgotten was found. In Blood and Wine there is this laboratory in which Geralt enhances his own powers, maybe that will play a role as well? We'll see!
Another cool thing I noticed is that the silver sword that Ciri uses is the one that Geralt gave her in Witcher 3. At least to me the hilt looks very similar.
Before watching the video, in my opinion it was meant to be ciri as the PC. I mean the whole story is about her, and witcher 3 was basically a build up to what she becomes… now back to watching your awesome video!
The only reason I wanted a new character is because they mentioned that after cyberpunk, they wanted to go back to actual RPG elements as we don't really get neutral or down right evil choices. And I highly doubt we will get choices like that playing as Ciri.
We could choose some very un-gerald-like choices that were evil. Might be the same here. It's not like Ciri didn't do some ugly stuff. I definitely get your point. I think the Witcher series is very character based and they will stay with predefined protagonists while in cyberpunk they'll give us a more free choice. Both have pros and cons. I really liked to see Witcher 1 to 3 from geralds perspective. Than again, V got a surprisingly strong personality for a player created character.
Hey @LIZZgame, can you please link the music playing in the background while you are talking about how great the trailer was? Really wanna play some lofi witcher music in the background while working.
All I know is I'm not judging anything about Witcher 4 until about a year after release when they applied about ten patches to make it run and better, then they release the complete Edition with all the DLC.
There are some interesting interviews too that reveal a bit more like the one on the skill up podcast channel, where you can grasp a few more details that are interesting to talk about and share btw :)
I pretty much agree in all your points ,and also I trust cd project red .i wish I could play this right now!and i love ciri’s look and voice,i m enamoured with this trailer
Fantastic video, also shared by CDPR themselves. Hope you can do some theory videos about the game’s story etc but I understand this might not be what you do on your channel so it’s absolutely fine. 😁
In an interview with PC Gamer, Game Director Sebastian Kalemba confirmed that the game will be set just “a few years” after The Witcher 3, where she is around 20-21 years old there.
@@LIZZgame I mean, Ciri is around 20-21 years old in Witcher 3. Sebastian said that Witcher 4 takes place a "few years" after the events of Witcher 3, so I assume Ciri is still under 30 in Witcher 4. You can find this interview here on RUclips.
Great analysis, almost lost me there with the Triss shade lol but I managed to make it to the end 😂. I agree with you, as someone who has read the books and played the games it was always a no brainer to me that Ciri should inherit the saga. Funny enough I had my own reservations about her doing so but for a different reason than most. I was worried about her abilities being too much for a game. So contrary to most fans I'm actually happy for the absence of her powers in the trailer, and I trust CDPR will not leave that mystery unresolved.
Yeah I know folks love Triss, but MOST who do haven't read the books or played Witcher 1 and 2 With all she's done.. I can tolerate her, but not forget
@LIZZgame Yennefer herself was far from perfect in the books. I honestly think that Yennefer's and Triss' transgressions are viewed in massively different ways by men and women. I believe MOST men, would view Yennefer's actions to be much worse than what Triss did. For me personally, from a male perspective that is the case. Not saying your criticism is not valid, I just think that it's a matter of perspective which is subjective.
@@RealGaleo using magic to make Geralt sleep with her. But claiming to be a friend of Yennefer. Trying to get a hold of Ciri so the Lodge can use her for political reasons... Then using Geralt and abusing his amnesia ... I dunno, I guess my standards are higher than that.
@@LIZZgame Triss wrongfully uses magic in an attempt to obtain Geralt's love, not just sex. Let's not be conveniently reductive. Also one could argue that magic was the only way she could ever fight for his love since his relationship with Yen was also forged by magic. They were bonded by djinn magic and even Geralt's physical attraction of Yen was based on her beauty magic, let's not forget Yen is in the business of catfishing. Yen is cold, possessive, patronizing, and emotionally unavailable still having feelings for another man. As opposed to Triss who sought to manipulate the man's love, Yen constantly seeks to manipulate the man himself. There is no higher moral ground for her to look down on Triss from. They are both equally flawed, and which one offends the most is a matter of perspective that's all. Nothing to do with higher standards or greater morals.
Great video! It struck me after hearing all this argument about what is “canon” or not that CDPR anticipated this exact reaction from some people and intentionally made this trailer in response. “Women cannot be witchers.” “Adults cannot survive the trial.” “The girl must be sacrificed to the gods.” It’s all the same. Any argument of what is “canon” or “keeping with the lore” is just another way of saying “tradition”. The villager with the knife is just a stand in for all of those people blinded by tradition, and who have closed themselves off from new possibilities. They’re each quick to draw their knives and attack any challenge to their beliefs rather than stop and think and admit they might be wrong. Any statement of fact when it comes to the lore or of what is canon or not should be immediately followed with “that we know of”.
Yeah, a lot of "men" (in fact probably not only men) are oversaturated with unnatural IG and OF models and anime and what not to the point where they can't see the beauty in a normal woman any more. What a broken world we live in!
Elder Blood doesn't alter her aging process but being a mutant does so considering Vesemir is 350 and looks like 70-80 she should NOT be looking like that, she would not have changed at all basically. The cat school is from a tabletop non-canon rulebook or something like that.
I can't believe a witcher fan not liking Ciri as main protagonist...this is the best possible direction for next 3 games. Potential is huge. One thing though, they will have to come up with compelling story about her powers, which I am sure they will.
I dream of The Witcher 4 starting with young Ciri arriving at Kaer Morhen with Geralt. It would show her Witcher training and introduce Ciri to the other witchers, including Coën. The scenes would interweave dialogues from the books with new ones. This would make for a great introduction to a new saga. It could also explore what the Trial of the Grasses is and why the witchers don't want Ciri to undergo it. This would provide a strong narrative foundation and add greater emotional weight when Ciri decides, or is forced, to undergo the Trial of the Grasses.
I'm so looking forward to this game - I am still not sure about a UE5 game.... because I know how that's going to hit performance - but I want to see Ciri's story. The people hating - aren't fans... they just thought the story was something it wasn't (or just will hate everything). Having said that - Ciri's story can be told in a way that brings the old fans in - or kinda spits in their face to prove a point. I hope it's not the latter. It's a great story (and great games) ... this isn't / shouldn't be a battleground on ideology.
iv always loved ciri as a character i am really looking forward to this game there are a lot of questions that need to be answered but thats kind of what makes me want to play the game more is to find those answers to live it as i have always been able to do in these games i have always been fully emmersed into the story with geralt and im excited to see if they can do the same with ciri
The Witcher is my favorite fiction of all time. Firstly, I will say that I am extremely happy many people are excited to play as Ciri. I'm a dude and I got to experience 7 books and 3 games with my boy Geralt. The third game being my favorite of all time. I'll miss him, but his story is over. Let him drink at Corvo Bianco with Yen (YES Yen lol). But, I will say the criticisms of Ciri becoming a Witcher and the new lead does raise some red flags. (Some of the this comment was written by gynvaelbleidd and some of my own thoughts) The term "witcher" ("wiedźmin") was crafted by Sapkowski as a masculine counterpart to "wiedźma" (witch) in Polish. This reflects the male-centric experience of isolation, survival, and estrangement that defines Witchers in the books. Geralt, Eskel, Lambert, and others live with the knowledge that they are both indispensable and despised, a tension that defines their existence. Ciri's journey, as Sapkowski wrote it, was never about becoming a Witcher. Although she undergoes rigorous training at Kaer Morhen, it is made explicitly clear in "Blood of Elves" that she does not, and cannot, undergo the mutations. To quote Geralt, "She is not like us, Vesemir. She was never meant to be." I feel the decision to make Ciri a Witcher ignores the tragic themes tied to the profession. Witchers are a dying breed, relics of a world that no longer values their kind. Their sterility, the horrors of the Trials, and their societal rejection are key to their narrative weight. Expanding the Trials to include women doesn't feel like progress it feels like a dilution of the tragedy that defines Witchers. I, like most, got the “Witcher” ending in W3 and I’ll admit I was happy to see Ciri join Geralt on the path. But I always assumed that was as she is, not as a “true” Witcher undergoing the tragic trials. She was already 10x Geralt’s power level anyways. I really hate the typical culture war discourse surrounding this trailer. To anyone that worried about her face, go back and look at any cinematic trailer with Geralt. He looks wildy different in "Killing Monsters" and then even MORE different in "A Night to Remember." Then in the final game he looked fine. Not really anything to worry about in my opinion. (Oops, you addressed this while I was typing it lol) Despite all of it, I love The Witcher. I hope CDPR writes this story in a way that is respectful to Sapkowski's world and their own previous work.
Yes this is my hope as well. Give us good and solid story with reasonable explanation for trials and I'm. Ok. Citi looked up to Geralt and Yen so much, she's free spirited. It all depends on execution, no character assassination just a character development, yes please.
Thanks a bunch for the analysis and your thoughts. As a matter of fact you helped me to remember some things, like the partial trial of grasses with Uma. Beside quite some explenation, that CDPR got to do my, personal most concerns are other things. First of all I'm not very fond of Ciri's temper. I enjoyed so much how Geralds calm, laconic and dry temper was. I'm afraid that I can't sympathize with the emotion driven character of Ciri. Chars like this, or for that matter all highly emotion driven persons, are usually a big nope for me. Secondly I'm affraid, that she'll evolve to a "Mary Sue". She has the elder blood, is kind of a sorceseress and now a Witcher on top. Feels a bit much and overpowered tbh. For your theory with the Cat School, I thought of that too. But I was surprised to learn it is specifically a Lynx wich can be seen in the CDPR Shop. Of course is Lynx a cat too, but it still is oddly specific, don't you think? I mean Geralds amulett is a Wolf and not a Siberian Grey Wolf or something like that. 🤔 Either way I remain calmly and carefully sceptic. I'll wait for the things to come and I have no doubt, that it'll be a terrific game. If it can live up to Witcher III remains to be seen. Thanks for your passion and most of all for your always diplomatic, calm and intelligent content. Love and regards from Hamburg.
Feels like the decision to make Ciri an actual Witcher was one that they had to make. In order for this to be a "Witcher game" the main character that you play as has to be able to drink potions, use signs etc. They pretty made it clear that the Witcher 3 was the end of Geralt's story a long time ago. I'd say the devs were stuck between a rock and a hard place and decided that they had to alter the lore a little to make it work. Which I completely stand by.
At her heart, Ciri was never shown to be a politician or a ruler. I don't think there could've been a better choice for the protagonist of future games than Ciri.
especially given that Nilfgard is run by merchants haha. She'd never run it the way it's running, but if she'd change things she'd probably have to fear to get stabbed in her sleep.. Best if she just goes on the path, hehe
@@LIZZgame There's some classic 'Witcher irony' there, with how she may feel safer living a life fighting monsters than ruling an empire of humans haha. Rooting out conspirators is probs best left to Emhyr :p
+ even in the netflix series s2, Ciri shows desire to undergo the trial and explicitly says to vesemir I want to be like you. I want to be a Witcher. Like ofc she is the protagonist.
Quiet frankly, most people that complain about Cirilla and her looks, probably barely even played TW3. And on top, the always present debate about the industry getting woke. Which isn't entirely made out of thin air, but I have the feeling that half the people that complain in this case, have either close to no knowledge about the Witcher saga, or are barely 13yo... 🙄 Fact is if one does actually compare her in this trailer to her TW3 counterpart and artwork, she does look very similar and as anyone should be able to tell, shes a grown women now. Besides, whether its Geralt, Triss, Merigold - anyone. They all looked different depending on the trailer or game. So this "change" was obvious to happen in some way. Remember, the Witcher 3 is almost 10 years old now - unbelievable! Technology doesn't stand still for 10 years. And designs change. I didn't hear many complain about Geralts changes compared to the books or from Assassins of kings to The Wild Hunt. So why now? Its purely actionism as always. I personally think they did a good job for a first trailer.
22:43 Spoiler Alert!!. Actually in the newest book by Andrzej Sapkowski Crossroad of the Ravens (Rozdroże Kruków) Geralt is 18 years old at the begining of the book. And story of this book is taking place in Kaedwen in years 1229-1231. So during the Wild Hunt in 1275 Geralt is 64 years old. But since this book is only in polish right now LIZZ cannot know that. Just a quick info. Cheers🤗
Avallach survived that because he's a Sage not just an average elf and also Yen said she would only do half of the trial as she says "will soften the body for change" , big difference to surviving the whole thing especially since Yen spent all night stabilizing him with magic. Also I disagree 100% with a new character being used. They can give us a no name character and have us love them by the end. Example? V from cyberpunk. Majority of the players of Witcher had never heard of books before that. My first game was Witcher 3 and the name Geralt was nothing to me. You can make a "no name" Witcher and have us love them by the end of the game or trilogy as they want to make 3 games as well as make the supporting characters amazing.
Witcher has now 9 books of background lore and 3 games. How are you introducing a no-name Witcher in a world without any relation to characters from books or games because they won't know each other? How to NOT piss off all the fans when there won't be anyone anymore they know? Hm. I'll tell you what'll happen.. Same thing that happened with Mass Effect Andromeda. Not a bad game, but all OG fans miss the OG crew, so in comparison it sucks.
@LIZZgame By not calling it witcher 4 would have been a great start. They said new saga and new school, could have been a great way for them to even go back centuries to when Witchers were in their hay-day (which many people have voiced they would have loved). You can easily put in a No-name Witcher with hints, and references and history on the impact the characters that came before them had on the world. And if it's still a sequel you can have them as "cameos" (for lack of a better word) like the game Gears of War, which after the 3rd game where all brand new characters with connections to the previous ones which CDPR could have done considering Ciri is already wearing a brand new school medallion. It's always gonna suck when you don't have your OG character (why do you think people are complaining now?) But it can be done and if the game is good in it's charcters, dialog and story, people can move and appreciate the new.
@mexamrc I know what you mean. In the end, we'll have to wait and see what they'll put together. But reading the books and seeing how much love and detail they have put into the previous games with references to the books, I strongly believe that this will be amazing.
@@mexamrc Exactly. They're retroactively ruining the Geralt trilogy by going with the laziest route possible of calling it "Witcher 4", and making Ciri basically female Geralt (per the trailer), all for cheap brand recognition. This already tells me they're not confident in their story to stand on its own, or a very strong hint at the least. People are right in fearing this franchise becoming another Dragon Age or Assassin's Creed.
I love this breakdown. And it’s a perfect clap back to the haters. Ciri being the protagonist is the perfect next step. I for one want to see her story evolve from magic mcguffin to badass Witcher like her father. This game can’t come soon enough

@@sebastianbauer2121 Rayla was a Soldier indeed, and a character from the books. in Witcher 1 she was given the Witcher mutagens and became a mutant.
@@Vlix-74 I was also thinking of that lab we found in Toussaint!

Extremely good job Liz. You have my great respect for the knowledge you have about the world created by Sapkowski. Warm greetings from Poland ;)
Too bad she missed something critical. CDPR made Ciri a villain.
@@cory6266 No they didn't. Everything she did is consistent with her character. Besides, it's going to come down to player choice anyways....
When i played witcher 3, i got the witcher ending. If i remember correctly, the narrator during the closing credits said that geralt and ciri traveled together for a time and geralt tought her everything he knew before she set off on her own.
I love the witcher 4 trailer! I like Ciri and I like her armor, it's awesome.
17:05 finally someone said it lol. Ciri IS the main plot of the witcher, Ciri is the WHOLE point of it all.
it makes so much sense to me that Ciri is the one carrying the series forward. They set it up that way in witcher 3. Looking forward to the game, If I live that long lol
Fun fact this trailer will actually be playable. Sebastian Kalemba said that there is a way to save Mioni!!
I'm not 100% sure that is what he implied. I think he meant that, with the way CDPR builds quests in-game, there would have been a way to save her.
Ooooh
@@waltdistel716 no, they have confirmed this is a monster hunting quest (side content) in the game. They revealed it during an interview, I forget which interview it was though...
So he probably meant it that Mione can be saved.
Edit: the interview I saw them mentioning that was the easy allies one.
@@Sweetzluf I stand corrected. Only saw this one and the statement was a bit too vague for me to jump to conclusions.
Will Ciri be able to shag her?
I'm one who is happy we'll be playing as Ciri.
He did a fantastic job of breaking it down. You did just as well, awesome!! Looking so forward to playing this
Beautiful video you have made! Can’t wait for this story!
Hell just look up who the guy in that video is and what he worked on
@@navarro4043 yeah it's sad that people get trapped in political propaganda
It seems like all the people with standards have left, they made Ciri a genocidal villain here.
@@cory6266 what?
Regis is literally my favorite side-character in both the books and the The Witcher 3. I LOVE HIM so much.

As someone mentioned over them there internets. "A game with Geralt would be playing Stardew Valley in Toussaint".
Imagine this:
- The Lynx School, unlike the Wolf or Cat Schools, retreated into obscurity centuries ago due to wars, monster declines, or internal conflicts.
If the Lynx School survived in isolation:
- They might have preserved forgotten alchemical knowledge or alternative methods for creating witchers.
- Perhaps their version of the trials was safer and more advanced-designed for survival in extreme northern conditions, where witchers couldn’t afford to lose recruits.
- This method might work on women and adults because it relies on different alchemy or mutations-knowledge lost to other schools.

Loved this. Especially the part where you mentioned resemblance of Geralt fighting skills in Ciri's. It's not easy to showcase that in a trailer
Well I hate to break it to you, but they missed a critical detail. By making Ciri a mutant, they made her a villain.

We are about to get a whole new trilogy and I could not be more excited!
Wonderful video! 🥰

Also I think we will still play as Geralt in the new Witcher 1 remake:)
I agree with everything you said lizz ❤❤❤❤❤.
Haters gonna hate. Personally, I can't wait to see the game.

Yeah I know folks love Triss, but MOST who do haven't read the books or played Witcher 1 and 2
With all she's done..
“Women cannot be witchers.”
“Adults cannot survive the trial.”
“The girl must be sacrificed to the gods.”
It’s all the same.
As a man i think Ciri is beautiful in this trailer
@@Ja_Van I agree!
I think the concern is more how she's being portrayed
I know you probably recorded this earlier, but the full track has been released 😊
YES!!! I loved that battle music!
Released where? Like on YT or on CDPR's site?? 😯
This game is going to be Amazing. I need it to come out NOW... or at least, another trailer now😅🤷♂.......
weekly trailers until release
@@LIZZgame Hell yeah! that would be awesome....
iv always loved ciri as a character i am really looking forward to this game there are a lot of questions that need to be answered but thats kind of what makes me want to play the game more is to find those answers to live it as i have always been able to do in these games i have always been fully emmersed into the story with geralt and im excited to see if they can do the same with ciri
i was glad to see new witcher i havent played the games yet but have them now but seen everyone else play them.. loved the series tho too
The Witcher is my favorite fiction of all time. (Some of the this comment was written by gynvaelbleidd and some of my own thoughts)
The term "witcher" ("wiedźmin") was crafted by Sapkowski as a masculine counterpart to "wiedźma" (witch) in Polish.
(Oops, you addressed this while I was typing it lol)
Despite all of it, I love The Witcher.
Either way I remain calmly and carefully sceptic.
I'll wait for the things to come and I have no doubt, that it'll be a terrific game.
If it can live up to Witcher III remains to be seen.
Thanks for your passion and most of all for your always diplomatic, calm and intelligent content.
Love and regards from Hamburg.
Our beloved gaming daughter has grown so much.
Which I completely stand by.
given that Ciri is the whole focus of the plot of the books, I think it really makes sense! And I believe they can make it work.
I can't wait to play this, I also think this game is going to be amazing! I've really enjoyed CDPR's games.
I hope Ciri would have the Child of surprise in Witcher 4
+ even in the netflix series s2, Ciri shows desire to undergo the trial and explicitly says to vesemir I want to be like you. I want to be a Witcher.
Like ofc she is the protagonist.
@@witcherpie eh screw the show.
@@LIZZgame I chuckled, thanks😁
Quiet frankly, most people that complain about Cirilla and her looks, probably barely even played TW3. And on top, the always present debate about the industry getting woke.
Which isn't entirely made out of thin air, but I have the feeling that half the people that complain in this case, have either close to no knowledge about the Witcher saga,
or are barely 13yo... 🙄
Fact is if one does actually compare her in this trailer to her TW3 counterpart and artwork, she does look very similar and as anyone should be able to tell, shes a grown women now.
I didn't hear many complain about Geralts
changes compared to the books or from Assassins of kings to The Wild Hunt. So why now? Its purely actionism as always. I personally think they did a good job for a first trailer.
i stopped reading books when i was young lol. im happy they made the show of it :)
Now all we have to do is be patient for the next 2-3 years, or more if I'm being particularly pesimistic.
Cheers🤗
I wonder how long it will take to translate the book to English?🤔😢
@LIZZgame I do believe they can win us over! Still excited for it! 😌👌
Kurwa dożyliśmy czasów, w których kobieta musi pokazywać incelom, jak z bliska wygląda kobieca twarz 😂.
I mean, makes sense. What incel would ever have seen a woman's face. OF models with massive filtering on their pictures discounted.
