If you guys liked this one, you will love "Boss Level".
It reminds you of Final Fantasy the video game
This movie is SO criminally underrated. One of the best sci-fi movies I've ever seen and probably the best use of "time travel" in recent history. I think the marketing was really the thing that shot the movie in the foot, esp with them constantly switching between the two titles they kept using in the promotional material.
@Author B.L. Alley It has less to do with fans & more to do with studios. Audiences 100% want more creative & better written content, but the same old dudes are still running the biz.
@Author B.L. Alley Yes.. that's what I'm saying... there's great stuff out there that studios are ignoring because of the people in power.
And how do you know I haven't read one of your novels? ;-)
@Author B.L. Alley Plenty of movies that people had no idea came from other material & also plenty of original movies out there that audiences want more of. Some people prefer to read while others prefer audiobooks or movies. I'm not really sure what you're arguing because we mostly agree, but sure.. lol
You haven't read my books either, so we're even. :)
Its also based on a Japanese graphic novel called “All you need is kill”
@@lightup6751 Which is based on the actual text novel "All you need is Kill" - Great book, although they made significant changes to the characters and storyline. They changed the main character from an average Japanese solder in the SDF doing his best to a somewhat cowardly American soldier. Still, I think they did a much better job of developing Cruz's version of the character at the beginning of the movie. Although, I kind of prefer the books version of the ending.
Love Emily Blunt's character in this. When you get a good look at her sword, you realize it's a sawn off blade from a helicopter.
Fun fact, in the novel she uses a battle axe that's laser-cut from the wing of a decommissioned fighter jet. After resetting so many times she started to favor a melee weapon because it never runs out of ammo.
complete bad*ss!
Still don't know how she swings it about even it those mechsuits
I never noticed it was a helicopter blade, that's pretty cool.
And nothing like Thaos double bladed sword. Did not know it was sawn off from a helicopter though.
You two mentioned how good Emily Blunt looked in this. She was jacked, yes, but she was also three months pregnant and hid it from everyone except Cruise. He kept her secret, and pushed for anything possibly dangerous for her pregnancy to not be done without giving it away.
It wasn't until well after the movie wrapped that it came out that she revealed that she was pregnant during filming. Cruise might be a bit crazy, but he looks out for his costars.
Tom Cruise is the actor, but he's also the producer, and it's important for a producer to watch out for his actors.
Cruise looks out for EVERYONE. I've never heard a bad thing said about him from anyone he's ever worked with. And the "but Scientology..." crowd can fuck themselves. Soon as they start giving Christians and Muslim actors shit for THEIR religions and all the horrific shit that goes on in their name then you can start talking shit about Tom.
is that why she was positively glowing in this movie?
24:12. 1 thing people are often confused about at the ending of the film is that because Cage/Cruise and J Squad launched their attack several hours BEFORE the entire surprise invasion took place, and Cage got covered in the Omega's blood he was able to regain the ability to rewind time 1 day again like when he got covered in the Alpha's blood. So, when he went back 1 day this time he ended up in the helicopter since that's where he was several hours before waking up in the military base, but because the Omega died all of the other Mimics died as well, so Cage was able to restart the day but the Mimics stayed dead. And, if Cage ever dies again he'll restart the day since he still has the Omega's power, unless he gets a blood transfusion again.
I had the same interpretation. I reckon he's essentially immortal blood transfusion holding though.
the manga this is based on answers that.
It's not Cage that resets time at all, it's always the Omega. Cage gains the blood of an Alpha and the Omega wants the Alphas to survive, so every time Cage dies the Omega thinks an Alpha has died, and the Omega then resets time. You can question whether it's the Omega or Cage himself that resets time in the end, but it seems implausible that it would be Cage since he's only a human. All the Mimics died because they were interlinked with the Omega through time, so it could be this explosive time reset that sends Cage back, only he doesn't die because he's not a Mimic.
Got to agree with ThisIsMyFullName If the Omega could reset the day with it's own death, It would have instantly. If Cage has this power, then who knows what will trigger him to reset the day. Car accident, Rita dying, Nightmares, could be anything.
@@ThisIsMyFullName I mean you can clearly see the blood seeping into him just like when he died to the alpha, and at that point the Omega is dead,so the only possible way for him to activate the power again is if he's the one doing it,at least that's how I see it.
This movie is a FREAKING GEM. I Loved it when it came, and still watch it once in a while. It's so sad it didn't do well at the box office
Yeah this film deserves better praise man
Yup. I re-watch this movie all the time.
It was marketed early as "Live. Die. Repeat." People were stoked to watch this, but then an idiot producer at the last minute decided "Edge of Tomorrow" sounded better, so when the movie came out, no one knew what it was and skipped it. At least this is how I missed it. Only found it years later, when I googled "Live. Die. Repeat" and found out the movie existed, but not under the name I was looking for.
@@jwoellhof Thats a badass name, like the original "All you need is kill".
It did well overseas. Not domestically, but it did more than enough overall.
Bill Paxton's character in this movie is like somebody asked "What if Hudson survived the events of 'Aliens?'"
Game over man!, Game OVER!!
I absolutely adored him in this movie.
He's a fantastic actor in everything he has done. Very seriously I was appalled when he died I just couldn't deal with it...
But we keep moving forward , I'll see you on the other side
@Ben Franklin 👍
( If Bill played Tom cruise’s roll )….
“Is this gonna be a stand-up fight, sir, or another bughunt?”
( when he talks to J squad after day 1)….
“Maybe you haven't been keeping up on current events but we just got our asses kicked, pal!”
I remember thoroughly enjoying this movie. Too bad it didn't do well enough to guarantee a sequel.
Yup
It did make 200 million and they have script ready. It might happen one day.
why do you want a sequel for a finished movie?!?!?!?!?? thos almost always make things worse
@@eatmypost9500 Exactly.
from what i have heard there are still plans for a sequel...but there is a lot of problems with the scheduling for the main cast...also with the budget...
And that's how you do an original strong female character! Great movie, MASSIVELY under rated and appreciated. Tom & Emily rocked.
Ripley agrees!
Thank you two so much. You helped my wife and I to get thought a had time this past six months. You putting smiles on her face when she was fighting cancer. She is good now and you are still making us laugh. So keep on doing what you are doing. And thank you. Much love
thank god she's good now... appreciate you joining us here, we love that we can make y'all smile with our silly reactions. thank you for the comment chris
Love or hate him, Tom put on a GREAT performance for this movie - his many "death yelps" were worth the price of admission! Great review, you two!
This, Groundhog Day and Happy Death Day are the triple(action, comedy, horror) threat of time loop movies :)
Agreed
Happy Death Day is just a blast to watch.
You forgot about "Boss level"
Don't forget Palm Springs, the Andy Samberg movie.
Although Edge of Tomorrow is an action film, I have to admit, it's pretty damn funny at times too. Some of Cage's reactions are hilarious. Credit to Cruise for playing this role to near perfection!
The behind the scenes training to use the “suits” was interesting to watch. The suits weigh 40 pounds and they had to make them look like they were powered and not dead weight.
I love the song right after he smiles at the end -- the lyrics go: "I need to know now, know now, can you love me again?" Perfect.
One of my favorite Sci Fi movies of all time
One of my favorite movies. Severely underrated!
If I remember the book correctly, Rita got stuck in a loop for over 700 days at Verdun. Tom's loop was several years.
im barely a minute in and I can tell Nikki is gonna say "oh bitch" at least 10 times 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was hoping it was coming when that guy said "It's the full metal --"
So glad to see this movie pop up with your reactions. It's a very underrated film. It's actually based on a novel written by Hiroshi Sakurazaka and a Manga adaptation written by Ryōsuke Takeuchi. That's named "All You Need is Kill"
The thing I love about this movie is the subtle change in Tom Cruise's character as we see him go from a cowardly opportunist to a full blown action hero.
I love seeing Bill Paxton in most things, but this film always makes me sad and nostalgic when I see how good he was even in an almost cameo role.
The author of the original book wanted to explore the psychological effects of respawning over and over in a video game. Definitely worth a read, and its also pretty short. Its called "All You Need Is Kill" by Hiroshi Sakurazaka
Excellent short story. Highly recommended.
Manga adaptation is from dude that made Death Note manga.
@@johndoecake the manga was very short and the ending breaks my heart a little ;-;
Thank you for the info! Looked it ip and going to buy it through Audible. If it isn’t the whole thing, at least I’ll have his name and can buy the books outright to het the full experience.
@Bozbaby103 the one on audible is the original story as far as I can tell. Good narration too
This film was a whole sci-fi film on another level and a great adaptation.
it be driving me crazy when im watching movies with somebody and they constantly looking away from it to look at me and laugh and ask questions. im just like watch the movie im still right here next to you. lol
23:27 *Nikki:* _"I hate underwater stuff…"_
OMG, if you haven't seen James Cameron's *The Abyss,* then you MUST!🙋🏼♂️
*Edit:* One thing to remember about _Emily Blunt's_ character, she never remembers any of it. He has to start over with her every single time. No matter how far they get together, it's the first day she's met him.
The 'Making of the Abyss' on RUclips is just as compelling. For what it is worth.
But having experienced it herself, she knows that the more skilled he seems means the longer they've been doing this.
Loved that movie when it came out. As an adult rewatching it gives me anxiety. Knowing what little I know about the deep ocean that movie is even better than it was then.
@@spddracer Thanks! Don't think I've seen any of that footage since it was first released on DVD.
@@peterbrazukas7771 I'm sorry Peter, you are correct, of course. But I was trying to highlight the fact that his feelings may grow for her over the course of days, weeks, or maybe even months (depending how long it takes for them to reach the point where he no longer has the power). However, it's _always_ the *first day* for her. . _.everyday._ She's only known him for a few hours (perhaps a day at their longest). And that this is in major contrast to _his_ experience.
One of the most underrated movies ever. Loved this movie, I've seen it many times, and every time I see little details I didn't see before.
Steven, you are absolutely right -- this is a video game scenario where when he dies, he goes back to the last "saved point" to try again, and again, and again. He must be in a Dark Souls game, lol.
It's based on a manga, all you need is kill
Btw this is based off of a Japanese graphic novel called "All You Need Is Kill" and the writer had the idea for it from playing video games :) basically wondering what it would be like to reset and play the same "level" in real life.
Goated manga and light novel
It's based on a novel.
The manga is an adaptation of the novel as well
26:12 No, I think because he killed the Omega the ability is lost completely. He just gets the one final restart, and that's all. He restarts that day and the aliens die instantly.
Its a alien species that mastered & manipulated Time as a weapon & device, it has played out numerous scenarios where they saw one human being that bring them demise....it saw the perfect way to preserve their essence, assimilate him to become the Omega.
Cruise has this power irl that’s how he nails all his stunts 😂😂
Great reaction! 👍🏿 This film is becoming a classic as it ages. Also, this film reminds me of old Hollywood, you know, when they did a much better job of writing ✍ good and/or great female characters. (Yes, I'm talking about Emily Blunt.)
RIP Bill Paxton
Yes. No sequal because they would definitely ruin it in today's Hollywood.
@@johnw8578
Agreed. This is not like 80s or 90s where 1979 Alien was followed by 1986 Aliens & 1984 Terminator followed by 1992 Terminator 2.
Holy shit! You guys are watching one of my favorite movies of all time! Can't wait!
Love this movie. Last scene made me cry...happiness tears.
Fun fact Tom Cruise paid for the Cast party and “Hosted it but didn’t attend because he was shooting last minute reshoots.” He was apparently one of the most generous cast members who took every effort to make it fun and safe for everyone with a great pay off.
Definitely one of my favorite sci-fi movies in the most recent years.
The sequel never got off the ground, but I always have hope they get to it! Meanwhile, MI 6: Fallout is another must see if you haven't already. Another Tom Cruise SciFi movie I liked was Oblivion.
That was a fun movie
I love Oblivion. That, Edge of Tomorrow, Collateral and War of the Worlds.
Tom Cruise and with the director came up with a sequel story.Tom Cruise has a very hectic schedule. The Mission Impossible sequel movies, which they were filmed back to back took 2 years to film and as of right now, have not been showed in theaters.
Tom Emily and the director all still want to make the sequel so there is still hope. Tom and Emily just extremely busy and high profile actors so really hard to line up their schedules, Covid only made it way more difficult and cruise gotta finish MI series first but hopefully someday we get the sequel
Oblivion was really good with an interesting story.
I LOVE this movie! So much fun! Really surprised it didn't do better at the box office. And Emily Blunt, really?! Girl can do ANYTHING! (drama, action, comedy, musicals) She's an amazing actor! ❤️
this movie based on the manga "All you need is kill" by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, best adaptation of a manga so far.
Now we're waiting for Edge 2!
This is one of the most under-rated movies ever made. It's downfall is that it's movie name which is alright isn't the most catchiest of all time. Now you know why it's so good though.
Emily Blunt: Full Metal B***h/Mary Poppins. Now that is some range! Lot of fun watching this! This movie is a little more painful to watch knowing that Cruise does all of his own stunts, including being thrown from the carrier and onto the broken cement! Great reactions, you two! Looking forward to the next! And a belated happy mothers day to Nikki (and any other mother reading this)!
You're the best at these edits, Steven! A ~2 hour movie edited down to a 30 minute clip of you and Nikki's reactions together and you captured all the best moments. Brother you are the best. Fan since your GoT uploads. Keep growing this awesome channel.
This movie is criminally underrated.
So happy im about to watch you two react to this, easily in my top 5 films.
This movie is actually based on a Japanese Light Novel called "All You Need is Kill" by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, which was then made into a Manga adaptation then into a movie.
They made an animated movie of the actual novel? Oh, now I have to find that.
@@gregsteele806 No they made a Manga - Japanese comic of the Light Novel. The movie im talking about is this one theyr watching
@@Fantom1080-u6o Darn it. Thanks for the info.
Supremely underrated film. I think people assumed this would just be some schlock. It popped up on my radar once I heard it was adapted from a Japanese light novel called All You Need Is Kill.
This is a criminally underrated film. Top 10 for me.
LOVE this movie 💚
I love this movie. Plus it had such a video game aspect to it even though it’s based on a comic book. Like literally. You die, spawn, try get farther, die again, spawn repeat lol
Imagine this as a game though lol it’d be dope
Fun fact:
The story Edge of Tomorrow was adapted from the 2004 Japanese light novel: "All You Need Is Kill" by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.
It’s cool how after a while he can just cut to the chase in any conversation
Groundhog Day meets Starship Trooper. I love this movie
If you guys did not know this movie is based on a light novel named "All You Need Is Kill" and I heard is a little different from this movie
It's quite different, and depressing as hell, Still an outstanding novel though, well worth a read.
10:15: "First of all, this is a terrific presentation." Cruise is so entertaining in this movie. He's like a more comical version of his uncool dad character in "War of the Worlds."
I LOVE that line. It is just what his character would say with his civilian career. Such a great tiny character facet.
A criminally underrated brilliant movie. Tom n Emily were brilliant
Was such a unique and fantastic sci-fi film. Surprised the hell out of me because I saw almost nothing advertised about it.
The advertising and marketing really let this movie down.
This movie is the most perfect, spot on presentation of what a video game would feel like in real life.
100%
I have watched this so many times and itt never gets old. The best time I've watched this was on the plane and on my way to Paris. I got to see the louvre a few days later and I was thinking of the Omega being in the basement haha!
I imagine his character dying at a ripe old age and then resetting on the plane again.
I always think of this movie as, "Groundhog Day" with aliens and heavy mechanized weapons.
Edge of Tomorrow is actually based on the novel/manga "All you need is kill", but it takes a bit of a different direction. Both the movie and the manga are very good! Would definitely recommend reading it if that's your thing.
Love this movie so much glad u guys reacted to this
This is another Cruise movie that I wasn't sure I'd like but absolutely loved. Your reactions are great and so entertaining. Thanks for the time you take to do these for us.
My personal thought is he reset no less than 50 thousand times, gives him enough time to learn every possible outcome to every possible situation while becoming the best soldier of all time.
Rest in Peace Bill Paxton! Great movie. watched it many times.
So fun, glad you liked it. Didn’t realize for a long time, the angel, was using part of a helicopter rotor as a sword. Bad ass. His youthful look…..Scientology. Seriously though…we would all look like that if we had a makeup crew takin care of the look. Every day before he walks out his front door he probably says…..ok people, today, I’m 32!! A thing I noticed too, when ever he does a sci-fi movie, he almost always solves the problem/situation with grenades. Lol. Hey….if it works….
MSG Ferrell was such a dope character lol "Tip of the spear, edge of the knife.....crack of my ass!" Definitely some army shit.
26:10 My guess is that that last time he died (when killing the omega), he just got some final bit of time resetting power from its blood, and he somehow, maybe inadvertently, reset it to before everything (being ordered to go into combat, getting arrested, etc.) happened.
But since the omega (and the rest of the 'one organism' - alphas and the other mimics) is now dead, there will be no resetting anymore after this. When he dies, hopefully of old age, he'll just die and won't end up back in the helicopter. Anyway, the best thing about this last reset is that Rita and the whole of J squad are still alive.
The Angel is actually a combat soldier, whereas Tom's character isn't. She never hesitates to shoot him to save the mission. Good soldier.
This is one of my favorite movies. Just watched it couple weeks ago. Your reactions are fantastic haha
Its like save scumming. Just keep restarting, from your save point, till you get the perfect playthrough or as close as you can get.
This movie and oblivion are 2 of my favorite tom cruise movies. And they both came out in 2013 and 2014. You guys have to watch oblivion. Such a great movie with a lot of twists
imagine if a popular videogame character remembered each time a game starts and each time it died. this movie gave me that horrorfying feeling.
PS. great reaction. love your content.
Cruise became a Soulsbourne player by the end, no longer had the fear of dying and just lived with a very much "fuck it, I've been through worse" attitude.
+Nikki & Steven React Fun fact this movie was originally titled “Edge of Tomorrow” and the trailers were a bit misleading. So when I first saw it I did not know what to expect. But I’m glad you realized the same exact moment I did that it would involve him dying again and again then waking up at the exact same moment.
Lol is that scientist guy "Loche" from Game of Thrones? The one who cut Jamie Lannister's hand off?
Yeah, that's him. He also got his neck snapped by Hodor.
One of my favorites!
This is one of the few movies I’ve watched once that I’ve really loved but could never come around to watching it again for some reason
DAMM good movie i absolutely want a sequel RIGHT NOW!! Live Die Repeat great movie tagline.
i really really REALLY wanted the final scene be something like.. 'Hello, Rose'
You can tell Bill Paxton had so much fun filming this movie. "Here they come! Mean as hell and thick as grass!" RIP King.
One of the very few Anime adaptations that's actually well done.
This movie is REALLY good and SOOOOO underrated.
This movie is based and adapted on a manga called All You Need is Kill, it's basically the same plot with some changes
This movie was so highly underrated! Just love it and Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt were awesome, great cast and story!
excellent movie which I hope there's a sequel in the works too....I love that scene at 8:12 when he gets run over by the truck..bill paxton(R.I.P) was brilliant in this movie..."what the hell were you thinkin"..🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think this is a really good movie! I've seen it a little too many times - because it just has such a great mix of action, good character development and love.
And then Emily Blunt is just amazing!
“IT’S A NEW DAY, PEOPLE”
“.. is it?”
Lol
This is one of the movies that made me love Tom Cruise again. This, and Rock Of Ages.
This is one of The best Sifi Movies ever made!
I really liked this movie, although I often forget about it lol. Still think it's dumb that they changed the name from "Edge of Tomorrow" to "Live Die Repeat" though
I always thought the title was Edge of Tomorrow and the tagline Live Die Repeat - either probably better then the name of the book it is based on - All You Need is Kill
They didn’t change the title
Such a good movie. I really want a sequel.
This movie reminds me of 50 first dates but with aliens lol 🤣
This movie is easily top 3 greatest of all time imo.
RIP Bill!
I watched this movie recently so it was fresh in my mind. I guessed so many "Let's Go"s in this reaction. LOVE IT! Keep it up.
Groundhog Day is one of my favorite movies of all time. Edge of Tomorrow takes the concept up a notch or two and does it well.
The movie doesn't give you an idea of how many times the day reset. According to the book, Cage's day reset 160 times, while Rita at Verdun reset the day 211 times.
Man, how is this movie 8 years old already? That's as old as Big was when Video Power was on the air.
One of THE greatest science fiction films of all time.
Before watching: ooooooohhhh, I love this movie, so hyped!
After watching: As always I thoroughly enjoyed watching this reaction!!
