    I never really saw the appeal of the Clipper since I thought that if I had to fly a large Gutamaya ship I might as well make it the Cutter (funny thing is Nautically speaking a Clipper is generally larger than a Cutter) since when I got the Clipper I was still grinding imperial ranks and needed to land at outposts, now that I have the Cutter I think I'll circle back and give the clipper a go.
    Salome's speech there at the end made the video for me.

    • @ThePilot_
      @ThePilot_  4 года назад +87

      You hit all the marks, my friend. The last line of the video was supposed to cut back to me with "Did you know a Clipper is larger than a Cutter? Who names these ships?" as a comedic beat. But I felt like it undercut the tone of her speech too much. Glad you liked it! 😄

    Thanks for the shout out about my Octogoid kill in an Imperial Clipper. The reason I used the iClipper was purely for the challenge, other ships would have done the task a lot better. As you point out, the awful convergence makes the ship less than optimal for the usage of fixed aim weapons, it therefore truly sucks vs Thargoid Interceptors except in the most capable hands =)

    Thank you for finally getting around to my favorite ship in the game. While I feel you may have understated what makes her so amazing, I'm also willing to take personal bias into account and say you were spot on in your assessment.
    Probably my two favorite moments in this game are yeeting this bird through the mail slot at 600 m/s, and cresting a hill in an SRV and seeing her sitting there, waiting for me. Looking picturesque as fug from every possible angle.
    Mnn. And dancing through a combat zone, that's usually good for a giggle or two as well.

    I've been looking forward to this video for a long time now and I gotta say, it was worth the wait.
    It's rare for me to say that a piece of art "speaks to me" and when I do, I don't mean it in a literal sense, but nearly everything you say about the Clipper is something I've thought about it for a long time. It almost feels like this was written /for me/ specifically, and while I know that's not the case, it still feels good to know someone else feels the same way I do about this ship.
    Your line about all the kinds of trouble this ship can get into was spot on for me: Before I went exploring with it, my Clipper was named Legal Issues because of all the mischief we got up to.
    I didn't know that lore about Salome and the audio and video editing towards the end there was spooky af and I loved it.
    Thank you for this wonderful video about my most favorite ship.

    I love the Clipper, too. I use my Clipper for deep core mining, and due to the speed and agility of it, it does this job pretty good! But I sometimes feel it was destined for greater things... The lack of hardpoints make me use other ships for combat. But I love the way it sounds and looks and handles. Flying the Clipper is a very emotional experience.

    The Clipper wraps a Class 6 First Class passenger cabin with a Class 7 shield, and carries it through the galaxy with the speed and agility of a starfighter... it's like one of those luxury cars where it's understood that the people buying it will never sit in the front seat or drive it themselves. That's why the cockpit's up front.

      A question if I may. I’m still torn between using the class 7 slot for a 7a fuel scoop or a 7e fuel tank. I eventually want to get the guardian fsd boost and I’m currently working on the fsd engineering. I’ve found that the 7e fuel tank does wonders as I rarely need to scoop for fuel, despite having a 6c fuel scoop. But eventually, that class 6 slot must go to the guardian fsd boost as there’s no class 5 slot. Would it be better to go with 7a fuel scoop + two extra 4e fuel tanks, or a 7e fuel tank plus extra 4e tank, and a 4a fuel scoop?
      Edit : And yes, this is for the Clipper. Absolute favourite ship. I have 2, one for mission running since I can make millions of delivery and supply missions with the companies I’ve gained good standing with, and my 2nd one for exploration. Nothing beats flying a Clipper. Flies like a dream. Not to mention the cockpit view, the ideal cockpit for sightseeing.

    I have an issue with the Clipper. It's the exact opposite of the Courier. The Clipper is too big. For a ship that's bigger than a python and a step up from the small, efficient courier, the Clipper is a grotesque waste of space and potential, and anything it does, it barely does passably. It's too chonk to explore, its hardpoints are hot garbage, its internals are a steaming mess, and its shield systems look like they were stripped off a Federation doorstop. Then there's the right-hand pilot seat and it's nearly unflyable.

It's speed means I can separate from all Interceptors and take Cyclops and Basi solo, but it really shines as a wing ship. Get in, get the heart glowing and get out while the others snipe it. After Playing ED for about 4 weeks i got my Clipper. I was and still am new and I don´t realy have ever completly outfittet a Ship, done almost no combat and spend most time either making shipments or mining. I sold my ASP Explorer for my Clipper and it was a good decission. I will get the Explorer one day back, it is a good ship but if you even haven´t choosen a home base it´s hard to own multible ships. And as a newby I must say: THIS SHIP IS AWESOME! I never had so much joy flying a ship. But sadly it´s a large ship and i didn´t knew you can not land on outposts with that massiv things... So i farmed a vew hours more and got myselfe a Python... Well i also enjoy the Python but after the Clipper it feels like flying a Brick... One day I will get my Clipper back and if there will ever be a raceevent I will start in that beautifull pice of Art.

      Best way to chose a home-base is to lock for a High-Tech-Station in conjunction with Agriculture and Industry in close-by systems. this way you can establish a nice triangular trade. High-Tech goods to industry and agriculture, and food to them. by ranking up the minor factions this should become profitable quickly. My Core-Systems were LHS 531/Iman Caber/ Mumbaluma. Before i moved on to work for the Empire. Got my Clipper 2 days ago. It's so astheticaly pleasing!!! Next ship i recommend getting a Krait MKII. Its the best work-horse. I still have 2 in my docks across the Bubble. Fly save, Cmdr!

    2 large AX multcannons and 2 medium guess cannons with decontamination and repair limpets.
    Named her the Blue Earth after the ship from the anime, teknoman that was used by space knights to fight off an alien invasion of earth.

    • @foldionepapyrus3441
      @foldionepapyrus3441 4 года назад +1

      For me this was the one imperial ship I didn't do the rank grind for. Its damn pretty and all, just not for me.. Give me >700m/s with combat load on the little imperial or the behemoth that accelerates faster than anything that heavy should and with surprising agility (if you master FA off). The real killer is the awful weapons, I love my railguns and Plasmas, clipper just isn't the ship for a fixed weapon enthusiast. A solid ship though, and the imperial grind is so much more rewarding than those dastardly, underhanded federal types with their love of slightly pointed box styling.

      @@foldionepapyrus3441 at least Feds gives ships that are actually practical. The Clipper isn't that kind of ship. It looks nice but is hollow inside. Feds looks horrendous (except the Vette) but are full of potential.

      @@matthieuzglurg6015 Its a superb blockade runner, with CG's drawing PVPers a clipper is one of the best choices to deliver cargo having enough speed to outrun harm. This was my first dream ship. It's fast, agile, ample cargo space and not too expensive. I use either gimballed guns, turrets or missiles on the wing tips. Turrets are weak but its position on the wings is great, almost omni-directional. Later i got disappointed with the weak shields because i lost a Clipper. I thought Class A shields would be strong enough. Weak shields plus a huge profile makes it an easy target. After i bought the Python, the Clipper is mostly parked because i'm a cargo pilot first and foremost. Also finding a place to dock is problematic with the Clipper. I do fly it once in a while when i'm not focussed on making credits. The holes in the wings provide 2 functions; primarily to reduce weight in order to increase agility and its secondary function is to reduce damage from weapon fire; shots pass through when aligned by sheer dumb luck.
