One third of the US homeless live in California & Here’s why? - Section 8 Housing Vouchers Maybe the Solution!
over 170,000 unhoused Californians struggling to find a permanent home, according to the California Budget and Policy Center. That’s nearly a third of the nation’s rising homeless population of 582,462 people, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The city’s minimum wage is $18.07 an hour, but the average rent for a one-bedroom apartment is roughly $3,000 a month, according to the city of San Francisco
Experts point to several reasons for the rising homeless population in San Francisco, including the high cost of living related to the tech boom, the economic downturn during the pandemic and mental health issues experienced by many individuals.
California has systemic issues in terms of its housing affordability, where it is a very popular place to live that has driven up rents and the rents are a direct cause of homelessness,” Jennifer Friedenbach, executive director of the Coalition on Homelessness, told ABC News. “So, what we need to do in California is really have a massive investment to offset that difference between incomes and rent.”
President Joe Biden announced over the summer an extra $3 billion in investment focusing on veterans and including rental assistance, legal help and job search support.
Trump promises to “ban urban camping" if elected.
“Violators of these bans will be arrested but they will be given option to accept treatment and services if they’re willing to be rehabilitated. Many of them don’t want them,” Trump says in the ad.
Friedenbach says such a policy would essentially criminalize the homeless and she believes the federal government needs to spend more time listening.
To address the crisis, Friedenbach said the federal government should invest in housing vouchers like Section 8, along with short, medium and long-term housing subsidies so people can stay in their homes if they were to face a catastrophic health issue or job loss. - Хобби

Thanks for giving us the Truth! I think that these agencies that were supposed to help with rental assistance should be investigated as well! I applied for rental assistance 4 months ago case was assigned to a worker and no one has called me to see if they could help with my rent, I had to file bankruptcy just to be able to stay in my apartment and even that's not going to keep me here for long, thanks for all that you do Jay!
I stumbled on your channel looking up what Congress is up to on various programs. Watched a few of your videos and LOVE how real you are and telling the TRUTH what people deal with in real life...not what the media convinces people what is happening. Keep making awesome informative videos! New sub.😊
It’s not cussing;) it’s passion!
You actually care!
You are authentic.
Adore you! 😻
Those that don’t understand. Well… Bless their heart!
If you have never known the feeling of being within & without & have to have help that is hard enough for so many to accept & there is no need to shame or judge.
Every human being can not be judged based on anything except their own story. Morals, behavior. Thank you for being a real real true blue!
Thank you so much!!
California has the nicest weather to be homeless in the continental US. You know if you were homeless you would rather go to California than Minnesota or Arizona.
Well stated and so true.... from the Ozarks
Greed is the cause
Middle class and upper middle class like telling everyone they RESCUED DOG FROM MEXICO 😂. ITS DISGUSTS ME
My 1 bedroom in Orange County, CA, is $2100, utilities not included. And these are a low-income apartments! To rent a bedroom will range from $800 to 1200. To rent a space of a living room, sectioned off with a curtain, will cost you $600. If you can afford a mobile home, great! But be prepared to pay over $1600 per month for space rental. Why not build Tiny Houses and make them affordable for the needy. It's so freaking depressing to see the increasing rate of homeless in my town and in the surrounding cities 😢
I live in a decent microflat in downtown L.A. New tenants pay $1050 with all utilities included, air conditioners welcome. Due to rent control and the fact that I moved in 12.5 years ago when the area was still urban decay, my rent is $700.

Is this like studio apartment. We need rent control here in OC. There is a rent increase at time of the annual renewal. If I remember correctly, rent was $1600 when I first moved in. It's always the same excuse for rental increase. The good old, due to the rising cost of... blah, blah, blah crap. Yet, never any upgrades. I was going to be charged $3 for each vertical blind replacement!
@@SlowWalkingMohairSam Yes, a tiny studio.
I loved your rant! Its spot on!
ive lvied in calif all my life and it took me 10 years to get section 8 i signed up when my child was born and the hospital told me to because it would be a long wait and he was disabled well a couple days after he turned 10 i got the letter..crazy. but calif can give everyone a voucher and it isn't going to matter because your mom and pop landlords will not rent to you even though they can't tell you no they just put rent high and then apartments don't want the vouchers either so there rent is crazy. i had lived in the same section 8 house for 15 years then landlord sold it and i looked for a year and couldn't get anything and i started doing research and because my son needs a wheelchair accessible unit and all downstairs in calif is more rent i put in a reasonable accomodation and wrote a 6 page letter on why i needed it and all the places i had looked and they approved it. it took a while but i kept up with it i was told there was no such thing as highter payment standards by a few workers but i knew there was and i did contact gavin newsoms office and he actually called me back and he helped alot..
Jay, I must say that your blunt, honest, and to the point explaining of HUD's convoluted circle of bull💩 is like a breath of fresh air. You are right on point with every single word. I thoroughly enjoy listening and learning from your years of experience. Just a shout out to you from me, if no one's told you today how valued and appreciated you are, consider yourself told. ❤❤

Jay is always spot-on! So refreshing!
Additionally, Ted Broer Healthmasters CEO and his son Austin podcast said if you as an adult have to move back in with your parents 😮, make sure there are other dwellings RV, tiny house, camper , or a shed on the property to live in. Don't be a slug, do chores, help $$$$ out and contribute to the house. Like him or not he is spot on. September 28

It’s because of our wonderful weather ❣️ Nobody wants to sleep on the streets. But if you are in that situation, you don’t want to lay down in a couple feet of snow !!! We don’t have tornadoes or hurricanes here. Lots of sunshine and food stamps.
328,000 US homeless Americans. And how many will it be next year bc housing costs are not showing signs of improving. Appreciating this content. But more attention to this epidemic needs to be shouted and more needs to be done. If anyone has any ideas (besides make sure to vote) please vent them here. I want to hear what you have to say.
Good consultant**
Yes We have been reading about California for decades now. Texas is next. Stay safe everyone. Good afternoon
Yup Jay! County of Los Angeles & Orange County has plenty of land to put these people in short term tent cities like Culver City, CA while they build permanent supportive housing and help these people heal and recover from the trauma of living on the streets. At the very least they'll have food, sanitation, clothes, services and heat in the short-term. LA County has all the money and all they're spinning around in their bureaucracy BS. The people that created the problem cannot and do not have the capacity to solve it. What they need is a Czar to get the structural apparatus in place to get these folks needs met. There will need to be a triage, there will need to be a humanitarian movement to make this happen, the money is there tied up in a million bureaucratic knot. This is further complicated by the advocacy & non-profit organizations that well meaning as they are don't and never have had the capacity to make meaningful change. This has got to be a public-private effort unifying all resources to make the change. Business interests have got to step up. Nothing good happens for people living on the sidewalks. Concrete doesn't heal. Big thinking and widereaching movements do. There are models that are doing this effectively and humanly in the smaller Southern California cities. It can be done. Outlawing camping on the streets has to be balanced with greater humanitarian aid. Culver City is one such example. A tiny ripple mind you but it's a real start. Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks have a triangle system in place and people get back on their feet. Those I know personally are doing well, though they're forever changed by the experience of loosing everything, not having family to fall back on and being unable to find their way. But for the grace of God go I. A massive, all encompassing coalition that demands creativity, compassion, coordination and fierce courage is required to create the evolution needed to get everyone housed, fed, healed and thriving again is possible. Some are sicker than others, no human aid can get a junkie straight but none of them need to stay on the sidewalk. There's a solution and it will not come from those collecting the government salary; running for office or keeping their non-profit mission afloat saving one soul at a time. This demands evolutionary leadership; Universal basic income and a housing and aid support structure that extends beyond HUD vouchers and "known" systems created by industrial era mindsets that time is long gone. Now we need leaders, thinkers, doers and communicators with local, state and federal mandate to make it happen. We will not find these people among the ranks of government and non-profits suckling from the government teat. We need change makers, disruptirs, rule breakers ready to be the change empowered by traditional leadership to make it happen. It can .
That was real talk
its bad in los angeles on skid row
Thanks Jay!
