“There are very, very few people who occupy the ground that Leonard Cohen walks on.” -BONO
The Flame is the final work from Leonard Cohen, the revered poet and musician whose fans span generations and whose work is celebrated throughout the world. Featuring poems, excerpts from his private notebooks, lyrics, and hand-drawn self-portraits, The Flame offers an unprecedentedly intimate look inside the life and mind of a singular artist.
A reckoning with a life lived deeply and passionately, with wit and panache, The Flame is a valedictory work.
“This volume contains my father’s final efforts as a poet,” writes Cohen’s son, Adam Cohen, in his foreword. “It was what he was staying alive to do, his sole breathing purpose at the end.”
Leonard Cohen died in late 2016. But “each page of paper that he blackened,” in the words of his son, “was lasting evidence of a burning soul.”

This is an excerpt from "Leonard Cohen's Prince Of Asturias Speech". You should definitely watch the whole speech, at least once in a year.

What strikes me as well is his barefaced honesty and humility in finding his own voice and self through the beauty, truth and works of another. I love his sense of the need for outpourings of lament. And equally the duty that we owe in gratitude, thus acknowledging that our own talent is so often largely a collection of what has gone before rather than a natural talent for which we can take absolute credit.

Everything Leonard says, it seems, is graced by beauty. But as a poet myself, I have to step back from his point of view, and I'm sure he would understand that. Finding one's voice is like finding where you stand - but wherever you stand, you stand alone. And it's frightening, going it alone, but that's the way it is for artists. It's worth noting that he never said that these were instructions for anyone else - he said that the voice that he found came with specific instructions on how to use it.

    • @AnnaLVajda
      @AnnaLVajda 2 года назад

Well it's even harder to be authentic now because so many want to project false images on artists not take them as they are so much manipulation and deceit we are told is "truth".

Here's to You Leonard. You're but a lifetime away from us all!
    ''Love's Strewn Breadcrumbs''
    ''For There Are Artists
    Who Can Wrest Us Up
And Can Place Us Into Themselves
    Rather Than The Vise Versa
These, Now These, Are The 'One's'
    Who'll Continue Wresting Us Up
Even Beyond Their Rests In Peace
For Are They Not, The Very 'One's'
    Who's Love Strewn Breadcrumb Paths
Not Willingly Helped Woo Us Toward

Far Beyond All Our Goodbyes, For Forever?'' -gilpin 101118
