It also takes away from the conspiracy theory that they're betting on the games/rigging games for the NFL script. IMO, do the opposite, and make them full time employees.
The officials DO care, and there are consequences when they mess up. Remember the Cowboys-Lions game with the screwed-up two-point conversion and whether the Lions' lineman had reported as eligible? The next day, Walt Anderson (head of the officiating department at the time) ripped the Lions for trying to put one over on the Cowboys, BUT you may not notice that referee Brad Allen -- who normally gets a playoff assignment -- didn't get one last year. Not a big deal is made of the consequences, but they do exist if you know how to read the signs. I've known NFL officials going back to 1968, and they hate getting a call wrong. But let's face it: There are only seven of them on the field, and no matter how much preparation they do during the week and how good they are, they won't see everything. In order for flags to be thrown from the booth/New York, 24 of the 32 owners have to make it happen. Maybe one day.

UFL is underated in my eyes. The bad calls/bad stuff NFL dose makes me more and more excited for UFL to start up.
I appreciate Rich speaking about this issue. As a Vikings fan, seeing the lack of the call on this facemask was disheartening. The odds of scoring on a 95-yard drive and then scoring a 2-point conversion to tie the game were slim, but I would have liked to have seen the game decided on the field, not by the officials. This ref should be demoted. Bad calls and non-calls add fuel to the fire of games being rigged, and I wish the NFL would use replay for everything. One other thing that Rich spoke about was the Darrisaw injury on the second to last play of the half. The ball was on the 2 or 3 yard line and it looked like it would have been impossible for Darnold to take a knee without being in the endzone. I think that's why they chose to run a play.
Vikings fan here. The non call that ended the Vikings' chance of winning stinks. But I'm not a fan of adding more replay to the game and using it for everything will make the game less fun to watch. As a Vikes fan, sure I would have liked to see that corrected. But I'm always skeptical of adding more reviewable calls to the game.
It would have been an 80 yard drive with the penalty. When even the announcers complain because its so blatant, you have to review it. The NFL says it cares about player safety, well this is right up there.
You guys are completely ignoring the fact that Fiske was held on the same play. No one is talking about that. If we are being fair then its offsetting penalties.
The league talks 24/7 about how they take "player safety" seriously. Well, violent facemasks like we saw last night are pretty dangerous to player safety the league talks. But if the facemask was called, a 15-yard penalty would've put Minnesota on the 20 with under 1:50 to go with no time-outs. Still would've needed a touchdown and a two-point conversion to tie the game, a tall order, but stranger things have happened. Obviously, they can't change the rule about what is reviewable and not reviewable in the middle of the season. But an obviously missed call like that everyone can see on replay at home was the wrong has to be reviewable next season.
A touchdown drive with 1:50 to go and four down territory the whole way isn't exactly extremely low probability, not likely but not super unlikely either
As a NFL fan - hate games ending like that. Yes its unlikely all the things needed happen like the vikings go down and get a TD, two point conversion, get to overtime, and win in overtime - however we as fans were robbed of finding out.

They can only review if the play was indeed a safety and if any called penalties were valid. They cannot do anything about an uncalled penalty that occurred, even if it is clear and obvious in the replay. If the flag wasn't thrown during the play, then it isn't reviewable.

Facemask penalties should be reviewable because they are clear-cut and easy to identify on video, unlike holding or pass interference, which rely on subjective judgment. Making them reviewable would help ensure more accurate calls, protect player safety, and maintain the integrity of the game. It’s disappointing that officials missed that call last night-it felt like they were watching WWE instead of an NFL game where a single hand in someones face makes thier head spin and sends a 200-pound man to the ground!

Stafford has had blows to the head and face masks several times this year that haven't been called. Every play should be able to be reviewable. This time it benefited the rams ann the rest didn't see it so they couldn't call it.

But let's face it: There are only seven of them on the field, and no matter how much preparation they do during the week and how good they are, they won't see everything. In order for flags to be thrown from the booth/New York, 24 of the 32 owners have to make it happen. Maybe one day.
The refs care more than you.

UFL is underated in my eyes. The bad calls/bad stuff NFL dose makes me more and more excited for UFL to start up.
And all the NFL says is “OH Well” as they cash in on sports gambling 😮
Could've been game of the week, instead become NFL biggest blunder, yet. 😂😂
Rams fan here, completely agree
You guys are completely ignoring the fact that Fiske was held on the same play. No one is talking about that. If we are being fair then its offsetting penalties.
Just saying, my 5 year old daughter asked if that was a facemask. Agree 100% that is clear and obvious!
Or, because of the no-call on the Kyren Williams facemask the possession before, we were robbed of a Rams win without this last play.

The Vikings got ripped off on that safety.
I thought that replay assist could get involved in a scoring play. It was a safety. 2 pts. Why did this not permit replay to get involved?
The whole replay system needs a complete overhaul
They can only review if the play was indeed a safety and if any called penalties were valid. They cannot do anything about an uncalled penalty that occurred, even if it is clear and obvious in the replay. If the flag wasn't thrown during the play, then it isn't reviewable.
Replay assist for scoring plays only reviews if the "scoring" actually happened ie did the carrier get two feet in, did the ball cross the line, maintain possession, etc. They never review for penalties that were not called.

Facemask penalties should be reviewable because they are clear-cut and easy to identify on video, unlike holding or pass interference, which rely on subjective judgment. @@RockNRollGecko The way the game was going he wasn’t going to march down the field. This is a team that got hot early in the season and that’s it ! This isnot a good team just good players.
No one is saying the Vikings were robbed of a win. They WERE robbed of an opportunity. There's no sport in that.
And that's a flagrant penalty, dangerous and illegal for a reason. QB is a vulnerable position. As stated in the video and by many other experts - that ref's job is to watch the QB. The only contact the defender had on him was to his face/ head. When you see a head get reefed around like that - which is viewable from any angle: back, front, wherever - you know it was not clean.
Unacceptable, whether a game is on the line or not.
Fan duel, espn bets, Vegas etc, there’s too much money in sports betting and all the leagues are in on it. Everything should be reviewable especially if it has ramifications to the final score of a game.
