TV Guide had an article about the 25th anniversary of Three's Company in March 2002. Joyce Dewitt said that the Three's Company True Hollywood Story, "Focused Mainly on The Bad", when it came to the behind-the-scenes stuff.
Why did they get rid of the original women from the piolet# 2. I just watched it on yt. Those women had both parts down before the studio probably took over and they got rid of the original ones.. sad
John and Joyce actually got exactly what was coming to them. Joyce never stood behind Suzanne, and then seemed shocked they dumped her character for the spinoff. John got the spinoff and then it failed miserably proving he wasn't strong enough to carry a show without extremely strong surrounding characters. The original pilot with John Ritter failed. they replaced two of the characters, and the second pilot with John and Joyce failed. It wasn't until Suzanne came aboard that it became successful. John got extremely jealous when Suzanne became a much bigger celebrity than he did. Funny that his sequal spinoff failed miserably as well. When you look at the overall ratings between 3s Co and spinoffs, the one with the best overall ratings for their time on everything was Suzanne, followed by Joyce, then Jack as the ratings were garbage for Three's A Crowd. The Ropers even did better than Threes A Crowd. SO overall Audra and Normal had overall better ratings in their 4 years than John did over his 9 year run.
The spinoff "Three's a Crowd" was awful, and I don't think there was anything John could have done differently which could have saved it. Suzanne also didn't have much luck immediately after leaving "Three's Company". CBS decided to pass on giving her a series, and her later syndicated series "She's the Sheriff" was not very good either, and is on TV Guide's list of the 50 worst shows. John did have more shows later with "Hooperman", "Hearts Afire" and "8 Simple Rules". Suzanne had success with "Step by Step" in the 1990s, but she lost out on most of the 1980s while she was trying to rebuild her career. Her big mistake was firing Jay Bernstein.

That's the whole point of the show.
@@Tj11813 I think Joyce had never seen THS before and assumed that the episode would focus on the good as well as the bad.

@@willmont8258 John acted steadily for the rest of his career. It took Suzanne almost 10 years to rebuild her career. Joyce quit acting.
It really seems like she was on a diva trip and was messing up the show by demanding more than triple her salary.
Great biography 😮
