Doctor Who is like the phoenix no matter if is gonna be cancelled somewhere in the future is gonna comeback. I don't think this is gonna happen in near future, but maybe in 20 or 30 years ahead and later is gonna comeback
The Doctor Who movie would have likely performed better here in the States if it didn't have such tough competition. I believe a major Roseanne episode aired at the same time.
@@neilgodwin6531 Never liked Barr's "Trailer Trash 'Karen'" persona even when she first appeared on an HBO comedy special, her nasally voice proclaiming herself to be a "domestic goddess". As a star Trek fan I find this fear mongering in the doctor who fan base funny. If you know anything about Star Trek is has been killed defibulated so many times
I’ve just checked on social blade,he isn’t exactly in trouble but his viewing figures are down but his channel seems to have always bounced up and down
Everything gets lower ratings now, the audience is spilt up about a gazillion ways whilst back then there were only 4 channels and not that many videos games etc.
I think it could easily be cancelled, the numbers are going own and a lot of the fanbase has stopped watching the new stuff. But it will definitely come back when someone who loves he show resurrects it without all the politics.
That was an interesting video, and I remember that The Power of the Doctor was supposed to be the end of the show. I love the shot of the U.S. map, and I see my home city of Davenport, Iowa on the map.
Russell T Davies is a mad man. He took on what was a dead show and sprinkled his magic onto it and made it into something truly amazing and the show we know and love today because I will say it again the man is completely mad, like fully and totally and utterly bonkers but he's a genius.
Russell T Davies a genius! 😂 He rips off other people’s ideas and he sexualises the Doctor whilst obsessed with soap opera elements and Deus ex machina.
He used to be a genius. Unfortunately, somewhere along the line, he decided spreading his gospel was more important than, say, characterisation or plot
To all suggesting that the show get cancelled in hopes of a fresh start in a few years, I don’t think it’s coming back if it gets cancelled now. 2005 was a perfect storm of RTD having the clout and the BBC the receptiveness to get Series 1 to our screens and it’s not necessarily going to happen again.
I wondered at the end if you were gonna announce a second channel, which instead of having your Doctor Who, would be home to all your Other stuff: Harbo Otholmes 😄
It will have to end at some point but someone could always revive it a few years. There will always be spin off material, audios and books etc. I do think the last hiatus of 9 years (or 15 between actual seasons) did it the world of good. I don’t want it to be cancelled i would rather Doctor Who got better, but they need to get a complete new writing team and people with the right ideas.
Personally I think the BBC would have been daft to cancel the show after the Chibnall era. They would have left themselves open to serious accusations of sexism from media outlets; cancelling after the first female Doctor would not be a good look.
Thankfully, the BBC banned that dreadful record from being played anywhere. Much to many participants' relief. Despite being a fan of Dr Who from Jon Pertwee's time, I never heard a note of it. Until tonight. Thank you. Not 🤢
Unearthly Child was repeated the following week. I still remember watching it, aged 7, being creeped out by the weird opening titles and theme music unlike anything I had ever heard. The cavemen story was boring as **** though, I must agree
because doctor who was never cancelled again Even after tennant,i have Capaldi ,the childhood fan since the very beginning and the 12th doctor as my fav doctor
DWs relaunch with disney faceplanted. I dont think it will escape the axe this time especially after the chibnall era and capaldis lukewarm public reception, its been limping for the better part of a decade and i suspect three strikes and your out.
Doctor who is un killable even if they do soft cancel it, it would only be a matter of time before suddenly it comes back. If the wilderness years taught us anything it’s that the story’s in doctor who will never end and will just be carried on by someone else. Also u seem to gone through a change of pace yourself with a sentient ball loving it!
My first sofa memories were very late Troughton but "my Doctors" were Pertwee and Tom. I loved it all, warts and all, and collected the old Target books (our DVD equivalents) but that was it really. I did go to the old Fitzroy a couple of times because I had a friend who produced a letrasetted, typewritten, hand drawn art, carbon copy fanzine and needed a hand. It was fun, but not life or identity defining. And frankly as Michael Grade tightened the vice and eventually popped it, I sort of agreed with his reasons because it really was running on fumes by that stage. I've enjoyed the relaunch mostly, but been recently getting the same feeling. Oh look a squirr... er dalek. And this time it's purple and can tapdance... But let it continue in whatever shape, that's fine with me. As with much pop stuff, there's just so much back catalogue that you can pretty much self syndicate as you wish. Whether totalising or dipping, by the time you've run through some stuff your memories have faded just about enough to make it enjoyable to go around again. As a postscript thought, it occurs that certain shows seem to be if not exactly timeless, certainly extremely rewatchable. I've felt, and hey it's just my feeling, that recently Dr Who has been losing that. I think it mostly comes down to style and characters rather than specific subject preoccupations. For instance, I've never really got tired of Red Dwarf - although the archly self-referential "characters in a world where they are characters" stuff was imo a very rare flop overreach from a team that had an incredible record of wonderfully successful risk taking.
This video actually unintentionally changed my mind about the "Season 1" reboot angle of the new series. What if it was RTDs way of saying "I wont let Doctor Who die, this is a beginning, not an end"
I hope it's not going to be really in cancellation problem again until Someone like Joseph Michael stracynzki or i don't know Phoebe Waller bridge is going to take over from Russell after 2027 or a distant future
You forgot to mention that a large majority of Doctor Who fans can no longer afford to watch Doctor Who due to BBC placing Doctor Who behind the Elitist Paywall of Disney Plus. Why couldn't BBC had left Doctor Who on BBC America, at least they would have far more viewers than they do now.
You do realize that people still have to pay for BBC America too? As for the argument that they would have far more viewers that claim is entirely unverifiable. Disney has not released any specific numbers, so we can't compare them to BBC America's ratings.
0:37 Exactly. Once you look into the show's history this gets really fascinating. Really glad that you decided to make a video on this as the misinfo & lazy takes get repetitive. Also the editing on this one is great.
Amazing video as always. If doctor who is about to be cancelled, I'll phone the BBC and become showrunner and keep it going as long as there's a breath in my body. If they cancel doctor who I'll kill myself, so it would be murder
You can’t have Doctor Who without Doctor Who? Mmm… tell that to Russell T Davies! He thinks the character should be totally humanised and sexualised. He scrapped the regeneration and replaced it with the dreadful bi-generation and turned the Doctor into a catwalk model type complete with libido and over emotional personality. Honestly seeing Gatwa mouth open and crying all the time makes me think that Russell wanted to sabotage what has worked since its creation. Putting it out of its misery would be merciful. Take a look back at part one of Ambassador’s of Death and compare that to Disney Who and you’ll see how Doctor Who has gone from a gritty, dark hardcore science fiction to a laughable camp silly over sentimental fantasy soap opera. Late 80’s Who was silly but better written than what we have now. I doubt the likes of Sylvester McCoy would be cast today. RTD would consider him not handsome enough or sexy enough. The show lost the unique qualities it had when RTD damaged the consistency of the Doctor’s core character. Peter Capaldi understood that the Doctor should never behave too human. Tennant is overrated and OTT. The flirtatious crap really didn’t need to happen but RTD has sex on the brain. Give the series to decent science fiction writers.
Pretty sure bigeneration was a one-time thing. It only happened because the Toymaker’s influence and the Doctor invoking the salt at the edge of the universe was making myths come true. I don’t particularly like the creative choice but it definitely isn’t replacing regeneration and I suspect it’ll be quietly forgotten about like Paul McGann’s infamous “half-human” line.
