      I got a some edge cameras back in October and sent them back and asked for Advantages. The weather is very hard on cameras in Costa Rica with bugs and rain....so I agree..fingers are crossed that we get something similar from the HP5.

    I personally believe that the Browning brand has stagnated. I see no progress neither in video quality nor in regards to audio. Perhaps some improvement is seen in night shots with led lighting. It continues to stand out for its autonomy and battery management, but I missed appreciable improvements in the videos. The review is very complete and enjoyable, thank you very much for sharing.

      I agree with your assessment.
      I think the 2022 generation is better than the last generation. I had to return those cameras.
      I'm not sure what the next step would be for them. A great 4k camera or perhaps a great white flash video camera?

    • @ojosenelmonte
      @ojosenelmonte 2 года назад +3

      @@OchoVerde In my opinion, 4K photo-trapping models, with such small and poor quality sensors, do not make any sense at this time. I think Browning has to look at what users demand and deliver video and audio quality.

    • @OchoVerde
      @OchoVerde  2 года назад +2

      I think for Browning, most of their demand is from USA deer hunters. I say this because there is no international option for their cell cameras. USA deer hunters are mostly interested the numbers and quality of their prey. I’m not sure that they will advance the technology as fast as wildlife photographers would like.

      Yep...some old camera models work great and for a long time. I use mine in the jungle of Costa Rica and the rain and bugs ruin them all after a few years.

    What do you think Recon Force Elite HP5 compare to Recon Force Advantage?

    • @OchoVerde

      There are 5 LED lights on the HP5 and only 4 on the HP4. It helps with distance and exposure/shutter speed.

    Excellent review. Thank you! I would likely buy more Recon Force Advantages if they still made them. Lol! I use solar panels and they work great so I am not concerned with the battery life but it will be interesting to see the performance with a solar panel if I take the plunge as I will likely add a few cameras at some point soon. I had considered the HP4. I have a Spec Ops Edge and didn’t consider the Recon Force Edge bc even though I like the videos that cam produces, the lines are “soft” with those cams and I prefer a more crisp edged look the the subject for videos. Also I read in the comments that the Recon Force Edge had issues. I actually had to exchange the Spec Ops Edge twice bc of issues but that being said I also exchanged on of my Advantages due to issues(not triggering or maintaining settings). All companies have issues but the most issues I’ve experienced have been with the newer BushNell cameras and the least have been with Browning which is why I’ve been sticking to those. Appreciate your discussion and comparison with the Advantage as I run a couple presently. Have a great day, Char 😊🦌☀️

      @@OchoVerde thanks! I agree totally different cameras for sure. I do love my Spec Ops Edge now that I’ve got one that works well though but it is not as good for screen shots. You can grab some super clear screenshot pics from the Advantage. I just do video generally as well since I too am an observer of wildlife not a hunter. Many people that hunt just use pictures so they can leave the cameras out for extended periods of time. I just ordered one of these cameras. I will give it a try. Maybe it too will be a new favorite. Hope it does well for you. Enjoy the rest of your day, Char😊

      Browning sent me new camera and it survived the rainest months, so maybe it was just one flawed camera. I have not tried it with rechargeable batteries. Other than that, It works well and great video. Time will tell if it holds up like the recon force advantage has for so many years.

      A touch late but for anyone else NatureSpy in the UK who are specialist sellers have excellent listing of specs and they specifically show that 2500mAh rechargeables can be used and for many cameras they specifically list a 'no' to them. The HP4 was listed as Eneloop Pro only but the latest HP5 does not show this limitation.

    Nice review, thank you! I've been using a Recon Force Elite HP4 for a year. I like the camera, but what bothers me: Night shots are limited to 20 seconds recording time (way too little!) and the sound is extremely noisy. Is that also the case with the HP5? In addition, I have to reset the time and date on the HP4 after every battery change (I use AA Eneloop). Is that normal? Is that also the case with the HP5? I also use a much cheaper camera, with a much worse picture, but after changing the battery, the date and time settings are retained. Greetings from Bavaria / Germany.

    Nice camera but you are comparing it to a Browning camera that is at least two generations old. I have a few of last years model. The Recon Force Elite HP4. Great camera too. It also works on rechargables (or lithium or alkaline). I use Panasonic Eneloop Pro rechargables. It can shoot 60 frames per second also.
    As far as I can see the only real difference is this years model is the one extra infrared LED. The photo megapixels mean nothing on most trail cameras as they are interpolated as opposed to native. Anyway like you I only shoot video.
    Take care.

    • @OchoVerde

      Thanks for your comments.
      The Advantage is probably the most widely used trail cameras on RUclips. It was immensely popular as it was first available in 2018 and retired in 2021. These cameras my be on the end of their cycles for many owners. I wanted to show the differences as Advantage owners may be looking for a replacement camera in the coming months.
      Also...the Elite HP4 is now no longer available on the Browning website. It apparently was made for only one year, so it didn't have the long run the Advantage had. This tells me that there was something about that HP4 camera that Browning felt they could improve on for their customers.
      While the 5th IR LED may be the main physical improvement, more light is almost always better for nighttime videography.
      Cheers and have a great weekend!

      @@OchoVerde The HP4 was very popular. In Ireland and the UK at least. It has it's faults (I did a warts and all review of it). I'm not a Browning or any brand fanboy.
