    My hubby and I have lived off of his one income all of our 44 years of married life! Our philosophy aligns perfectly with yours, when it comes to what we spend our money on. And my favorite sport is thrifting!! Over the years, I have found so many treasures and saved tons of money! I love your comfortable home and feel so "at home" visiting with you. We have so much in common...we're sisters [in Christ] and thrifters! And my best grocery money-saving tip is to MAKE A LIST and plan out your menu before you even walk through the door of the grocery store!

      It is so inspiring to hear from others who live on one income as well! We have been doing it for about 7 years and although we are not perfect at it I feel very blessed where God has brought us, I thank him so much that my husband is healthy and has a good job to provide for our little family :). Thank you so much! I try my best to make my home feel comfortable and "lived in" versus it always being absolutely "pinterest perfect". Hello to a new friend and sister in Christ! I love the tip to make a list! If you don't sway from the list then you can usually come out of the store on budget!!

    Hey my friend! We're single income also. I did work for many years.. until i started having some health issues about 7yrs ago. But Gods always blessed & kept us! For years I would go get my nails done, when i worked. But for the last 6+years i've kept my own nails done, with potted press/glue on nails! You rarely see me without them! Lol i just love my nails 🤷‍♀️ And the last almost as long as salon nails & a fourth of the price😉 I get alot from Walmart & love that new line they've started carrying, can't remember the name, but they're in a round package. those last really well. I also get alot from Walgreen's, & sometimes CVS. But I find the biggest & best selection at Walgreen's! They have some good ones at Ulta too, but some, depending on the brand, can be a little higher in price. Girl I never pay full price for clothing in the higher price stores, i go straight to the clearance racks! But honestly, i get alot of my clothes from Walmart & thrifting. Now if we go to the mall, i may find something i really like but usually i look pretty much at the things on sale, it clearance. I just don't the the need to pay high prices for clothing🤷‍♀️ Besides I like to have alot of clothes, the cheaper the more i get😄 Lol I really did use to think this way, i don't buy clothes like i used to & got rid of much more than i kept when we moved. I rather spend my money thrifting & antiquing😁 Honey groceries are HIGH.. period!! Its hard to save on food & household products. I buy mostly store brand, but there's certain things i won't compromise on.. mostly household things. And you're exactly right.. Joy, real true joy, comes from the Lord🙌🏻 He carries me, and my family, thru daily and that's where i find my peace, comfort, strength and joy! God bless you too my friend & I hope you have a blessed weekend 🙏🏻

      God really does bless us doesn't he! I love the nails to! I have been obsessed with the press-on ones that don't require glue lately, I love how much less mess they are compared to the glue ones. I rarely pay full price either! I love me a good clearance or sale item, it feels so much more exciting lol. Groceries are SO EXPENSIVE! It is definitely a challenge to save on household things and groceries, I am like you and I have my certain things that I wont compromise on...simply for the fact that nothing else works like them! True Joy definitely comes from Jesus, it is a fountain of peace that you can't explain...even when it is chaos all around you, I would be utterly and completely lost without Jesus, gosh I am so thankful for him! I hope you have a blessed weekend! :)

    HAPPY FRIDAY Mikaila, hubby, and fur babies. Absolutely Agree. My husband and I are both retired now, we retired early, I retired at 54/63, hubby 62/63. We love our home and thankful for it, we have two little doggies. Our boys are grown, eldest married with two grandblessings and our youngest son bought his own home at 23/28 no children yet, not married yet. We are empty nesters. NOTHING without JESUS. Girl we have a lot in common! We save money by cooking from scratch, making a lot of our own cleaning products, keeping a garden and preserving what grows by canning, freezing or dehydrating. I love pretty nails too - but can never keep the press on's in place longer than a couple of days (and I prep the nails beforehand). Instead, I learned how to apply my own acrylic nails - they are MUCH more durable. I do my own pedicures too - though way less frequently than I'd like, they always end up on the bottom of the to do list. I need to go out and put up a clothesline for drying laundry outside - hot as it's been lately it wouldn't take long to dry everything and it would save the energy needed to run the dryer. Hoping to get chickens to raise soon, which may not save much money once food and bedding is factored in, but at least we'd have a regular supply of eggs most of the year. We have fur children too - two indoor cats. We replaced the clumping clay litter for sawdust pellet livestock bedding last year. A 40lb bag at Tractor Supply or the Farmers Co-op is between $7-$8, whereas a 37 lb box of litter was over $20. Once a year or so, we drive to a restaurant supply store in the next state to stock up on bulk quantities of basics: AP Flour, sugar, salt, rice, dried beans, oatmeal, ground beef, ground turkey, some steak meat (uncut - just large pieces we cut ourselves into stew meat, fajita strips, roasts), coffee beans, baking powder, maybe some dried cranberries or raisins, that sort of thing. I'm constantly on the hunt for bargains and ways to save money - thrift stores are my jam!

      How exciting to meet someone who loves the things I love! Some of the press-on's have been finicky for me, then others do well so I am not sure if it is the shape of some of them or i'm just too rough on them lol. I love how the acrylics look!! I have a clothes line that I tied up between 2 trees but I haven't used it much due to it being so small lol, me and my husband plan to build an actual larger clothes line this Fall when its not so stinking hot outside :). My parents live down the road from me and my Mom raises her own chickens and gets tons of eggs! They are such a great way to have a healthy protein source, we have got to get our land more setup for chickens where we live now before I can bring them to my house. I love your tips for groceries! My brother-in-law used to be a butcher so he knows quite a lot about how to cut up meats into the smaller more expensive pieces so we often ask him how to save on meat. I try my best to buy in bulk when I can! We have a Sams Club membership and I like to buy the Sams brand household items...it saves quite a bit! Thrift stores are THE BEST!!

      @@dearmikaila I'm envious of the butchering know-how. I know enough to cut across the grain of the meat for improved tenderness, other than that I'm afraid it's little more than a hack job! We've been trying to rehabilitate a large shed on our property for a chicken coop/storage area/future riding mower storage. We have zero building skills, so though we have a friend who does know what he's doing helping us, we still move about the speed of the average sloth. We finally got the roof replaced, but it took months to do it. We're basically tearing it down to the studs - I'll be thrilled if we can have the coop done by October. Then we can get chicks started inside while we get to work on the run area. I saw you are in Arkansas? So are we. August is not my favorite month here.

      My brother-in-law knowing how to butcher is so nice! My parents took an old dog pen and turned it into a chicken coop, it works great! Hi love this video. Today alot people live above their means and always strive for what others have. For me, since my 20's , I have always lived within or below my means and have been perfectly happy! I don't need a fancy car, or go on expensive vacations. I have a beautiful, paid for house, that is filled with thrifted finds, hand me downs and curb side finds, and I simply love it. I have learned to slow down, and live my life nobody else's. More young people need to learn this. Perhaps there would be less anxiety in the world.

    • @dearmikaila
      @dearmikaila  2 месяца назад

      Thank you so much!! I completely agree, with all of the social media spreading things around then a lot of us can get caught up in the "comparison game", we have to strive to not let ourselves be overcome by that. I don't need lots of fancy things either, I have certain things I enjoy, as most of us do, and I try my best to be minimal outside of those things. Isn't there such a joy in slowing down? I agree that there would possibly be less anxiety if we could all learn to not follow "hustle culture"! It is okay to rest and restore and not constatly be "on" 24/7. Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful comment!!

    I can relate about being a homebody. Both my husband and I enjoy spending time at home. When we were both working fulltime, it was easier for us to do some traveling then and I am very grateful we were able to do the traveling that we have, but we are more apt to do something local anymore. We are also living on one income. I haven't worked outside the home for quite some time and health issues have been a factor as time went on. It's part of life and I feel I am lucky to be here and surely God had something to do with that. I am grateful every day for what we have. I love our old 1941 built house and I am satisfied with what I have but my weakness is books. Preferably used as they are more affordable and the library is a great option, but I prefer to own them for future rereading, if I choose, and I am very hard on books. I would owe the library a fortune for damaged books. I don't have any great advice on saving money on groceries other than to buy what is in season. Out of season, not only costs more, but it also doesn't taste as good. Ignore chips and buy popcorn, to pop yourself and add different toppings. But tea bags and make your own iced tea. Whatever you can do yourself, rather than buy prepared, usually will save you money. Most people don't want to sacrifice the time it takes to make some things. It used to be bread was so cheap, there was no point in making your own but if you have a large family, I think making your bread would save a lot of money. Also, buy whole milk and add water to it. You end up making your own 1%, 2% or skim (somewhat) based on the amount of water you use. I don't know if that would work with plant-based or nut-based milks like almond milk etc. as I've never tried it. Make your own granola - way cheaper than buying it. Strech hamburger by adding ground up cooked beans. I prefer black beans when I do it. Use less meat when making soups. Load the soups up with vegetables instead. These are just things I automatically have been known to do. I don't do all of them anymore, but I still do several, sometimes just because I'm short on something else. 😅

      Yes! Home is so comforting to me and my husband, we love being at our house. I understand health issues being a factor for one income, it is actually one of the reasons we ended up going to one income, I fully believe in healing though...I know it's close! It is so cool that we both have homes built in the 1940s, they have so much charm and character. I love books to! When I was younger I would buy them at thrift stores and yard sales or get them at our local library, I would always check out the max amount of books every time we went because I knew I would read so many lol. I completely agree on your grocery saving plan! Eating in season does help, we make most everything at home as much as we can, homemade bread is so delicious to :). I love all of these tips! I know they will be helpful to people who are trying to save money, thank you so much for sharing them!!

    After buying a house a year and a half ago in this inflated market I find myself having to go to the food bank now and then. Our house payment alone is $3400 and that’s for an old manufactured home on three acres. It was the only place we could get in our area. I also garden and forage and my husband fishes a lot. By necessity I find myself cooking everything from scratch, even bread and tortillas. Dried beans are versatile and filling. Oats and rice are also cheap and filling. Soups are a great money saver. Keeping chickens is wonderful because no matter how bare our pantry is we can always count on fresh eggs. We can’t afford vacation but we live near lakes where we can swim for free and we also have a library extremely close where we can check out movies and books, use the internet (during times we can’t afford the internet bill) and they even have crafts for the kids.
