Comparing the EV800D and EV100 FPV Goggles, Which one comes out on top?

  • I did my own research, watching many RUclips videos and reading forums and Reddit posts, before deciding to buy the EV800D as my first real FPV goggles. I do not regret that decision and use them both as goggles and as a ground station with dvr recording. They've been fantastic!
I recently won a pair of the EV100s and took the opportunity to do a side by side comparison. I felt that flying with one and then the other, while recording my reaction would be the best approach. I was impressed. I know these have both been out for a couple of years, but hope my thoughts help someone out.
The take away: both are just different. The box goggle styled EV800Ds feel more immersive due to their 5" screen and have almost 3x the field of view as the EV100s. That said, the EV100 image felt crisp and clean in part due to the IPD and diopter adjustments. The image is smaller, but so are the goggles - almost half the weight and much smaller form factor for sure. I didn't realize how much I'd appreciate the weight difference until I put them on one after the other.
Flying smaller FPV/freestyle/racing quads I think the EV100 is the better option due to the sharper image. Flying planes or large cinematic quads the immersive feel of the EV800D goggles is superior.
I've never used Fatsharks or other high quality goggles. I cannot speak to how these ~$100 (USD) eachine goggles compare to $300-500+ goggles, so I don't here. I am comparing the two goggles that, in my opinion, are the best in class budget friendly goggles. You can't really go wrong with either.

After finally getting my EV100's in the mail after using the ev800d's for years I can say my impressions are almost identical to yours. Although I do get a lot more breakup with the stock ev100 antennas compared to the EV800D. I just got tired of not being able to rest the ev800d's on my head when changing the batteries or looking for a crashed drone. They are so big and bulky so I'm very happy with my ev100's

I ordered some EV100's so this is quite reassuring. I cant seem to find a definitive answer as to which antennas improve its perfomance. I figure two identical pagoda's would be best.

@@JSeds It doesn't matter that much unless you're using a long range transmitter/receiver like TBS crossfire. Basically any omni/clover antenna will do just make sure it's wound in the same direction as the antenna on your drone. I get longer range with my vtx than I do with my transmitter. I ordered some matching foxeer lollipop antennas but right now I just use the antennas off my ev800D and it works well.

@@shatterpointgames Okay so you are using a patch and pagoda on your EV100's? Better than the stock ones?

@@JSeds Yeah it works much better, the range is somewhat comparable but the amount of breakup you get is severely reduced. The picture is much more stable and clear more of the time. Which whoops that just use a whip antenna the difference isn't as pronounced but is still definitely noticeable. You will definitely get flyable usage out of them with the stock antennas so there's no need to rush into something else while you do more research.

@@JSeds I mostly ordered the Foxeer antennas to replace the one on my drone. A lot of people don't bother with patch antennas and just use two omni antennas one sideways and one straight up and down.

For a first goggle, either of these would be a good choice if your budget is ~$100USD. If you can afford about $200 or so, there are better options out there.

I get a constant "beeeep" on my EV100 and the screen is black, fully charged battery and also using external USB power, any ideas?

What are you using to record the footage at 1:26 ?

That's the UR85 Caddx Turtle 2 with a ND filter that doesn't quite fit- hence the tunnel effect.
