Gargoyle's Quest: Ghosts'n Goblins aka "Red Arremer: Hell Village Tale"), is a platform/side scrolling adventure game with mild role-playing video game elements from Capcom. It was released on May 2, 1990 in Japan and then in the United States and Canada in July.
The main character Red Arremer (Firebrand in the US) made his debut in the video game series Ghosts'n Goblins.
This is one of Capcom's underused game series... Firebrand is one of Capcom's badass characters and whilst the game was easy, Firebrand is the sole purpose for playing this, at least before Demon's Crest came along... This theme was remixed for Firebrand's theme on
Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3. -

I remember playing this... born in 82... good memories... I miss those days :(
initiated in 79-..... wow, the 80's … am I right?
Same here,almost 40 now...it was a different world back then,I miss it...
Cool trilogy.
Same bro, same. 82 here
This game was extremly difficult when I was 8. Especially wirhout speaking any english. But I loved it. Very good game.
Ye
Yes took me weeks to beat it back then
feel it+
Sounds like we had the same childhood :).
I can remember a camping trip with my family where I spent most of the time playing this game.
Wollte schon fragen welche deine Muttersprache ist, aber dann habe ich deinen Namen gesehen.
Amazing game. Wish there were more like this one nowadays. Playing Firebrand in the ghoul realm as a child, hidden under the covers with my flashlight (cause Gameboy playing was forbidden after 20 pm :-D) Happy memories :-D
:-D
@MassAveTrav01 It also exists on the gameboy but was only released in Japan.
@MassAveTrav01 Gargoyle's Quest 2 is worth playing for the artwork alone. It is one of the best looking NES games.
Demon’s Crest is the last one in the trilogy.
every now and then i'd get this music stuck in my head from out of nowhere, and after watching this i realize its where i played this so much when i was a kid lol. i absolutely loved this game.
Played this up and down in 1990 at the age of 12. I loved it. Although I thought it was a very hard game I beat it after many months of playing. Graphics, animations and especially the soundtrack are still top notch for the GB-system. Brings back many childhood memories.
Played the hell out of this game. It taught me the first bits of English. In the later parts I barely understood what was going on. I was, like, 8 years old.
Oh man...I still remember pretty much all the music in this game. It was very haunting back in the day. That first damn level took me quite a while to beat.
It seems my experience was similar to that of many people. It was one of the first GB games on the market in Germany back then.
Something that was fairly common back then: You just walk into boss fights with little indication. The screen would just cut you off from going back.
cool. was this after the wall fell?
@@edstercw You are probably being facetious, but...it might have been, because I'm not sure if the game had been released for a while when I got it. This fact that I don't remember the chronology probably tells you that I'm not from that side of the wall...
82 ✌🏻
@@edstercw and yes, after the wall fell
@@Brax1982 thanks I was genuinely wondering
Isn't amazing how these old games give you a sense of spookiness and Halloween? I'm so glad I grew up at the time I did, and got to see great games like this and Castlevania (I don't think kids nowadays would even understand this 'horror' motif that old games used to bring to us...and how fun it was).
just came from a Castlevania Video. Compared to that I was so impressed when I got my hands on Gargoyle's quest. I think kids would not have the patience to deal with the annoying issues we ran into
A Boy and his Blob kind of creep as well
My really first RPG.. the soundtrack is stuck in my head, had goosebumps with firebrand's theme in MVSC3.
Still remember the last password 26y later: WPXDOBG4. It's carved in my memory.
Mine was NXAN-RRX4.
IMAX DJ5U
NPAN RRXY
you can just type ffffffffffffffffffffffffff haha
Aaw8/nndt pour ma part ....lol ....c'est reste gravé chez tout le monde
this is bringing me to tears and I do not care what anybody says
searched for this long play just to remember the end titles' music. It got stuck in my head for the last 30 Years and there is no other way to listen to it but to find your old GameBoy and replay the final chapter! Great memories
I wish the gargoyle would've moved that slowly in Ghost's N' Goblins...
Nah, I wish would take a simgle hit without dodging.
This game is a masterpiece under all aspects.
Well, I love the game, too. For its nostalgic value. But it’s got lots of slow down and flickering. Even the music is stuttering sometimes. And then puzzles are cheesy.
Wow, one of my first ever game boy games. This brought back so many memories - I haven't thought of this game in over 25 years.
I’m born in 82
Use to play this in 92
My friend , had borrow me his game boy
We not poor , but my father was difficult man didn’t want to get me game boy
Without any school success in counter part 😉
When my friend let me play
It was rain outside and cold night
I feel i enter to a mystic and mysterious world
This music stuck forever in my mind
I wished the night to not end
To continue to play and not give back game boy to my friend ( name hamza / best friend like a brother)
Now im 40
Hamdou li allah
I wonder what type of father i will be to my son 5 years
Rest in peace to my father
I love you
You made me a man
Hamza still my best friend
Thank you who read this
Peace , Salam
Your comment touched me. Thank you.
Beautiful comment, thank you. I hope you and your son are doing well.
As a (barely) 6 years old little boy, with 0 english knowledge, I never went past the first jumping upgrade. I honestly only knew the words "yes" and "no".
3 years later, I do recall picking this game and trying it out... Never went past the Rushifell stage, those bloody drills of doom were impossible for me.
Ahh the memories... watching this now, all the way through...
I finished the game with 0 english knowledge back then although I was older (9-10yo?), it was a lot of trial and error. Very strange the game wasn't translated, I guess back then they didn't bother if it wasn't a big game.
Password “MAD” was the toughest challenge. Loved this game so much.
Capcom made secretly the best trilogy ever and left it at that.
1:39 the "this is where it gets real" music.
Graphics So Real You'll Forget It's Only A Game
Graphics do not make a game fun.
29 years laters I'm still love this game, it is amazing
I have did not own this game until maybe 5 years ago. Still like it very much.
you woke up lots of memories here mate . :( , one of my best ever games. I only wish they could make a remake for pc nowdays :))
For me this game is AN ABSOLUTE BANGER, nothing to waste. All my childhood (born in78)
Play that game in '93. Love that memories
oooh good old times.. one off my favourite games as a kid
This game man......brings back A LOT of memories i was just a kid i loved this game so much the GOOD sound track and sound effects whenever you hit a boss and the credit ending showing all the bosses and their names is just icing on the cake 10 out 10!
Loved the game back then. It has such a great monster/horror atmosphere. Which makes the kinda cheefful sound when you pick up an item even better.
Even the music makes me feel ancient 😅😊. An excellent game, along with Toxic Crusaders 😁😁.
"If you can conquer the Earth, you can be king there."
Arthur: *sweats*
39:56 They should have let Firebrand do a Sonic Boom and Flash Kick from then on.
This game was so so difficult.
I remember i could not speak english so I didn't understad a think. When Inwas at the beach I FINALY could make that llong jump but we didnt have any paper and pen with us so I had to remember the password. I told it myself so many times that to this day i remember it out of my head. CBKC9PLV its creapy I know :) Im 28 so It must have been 20 years ago
oxefbw95, same here, i still remember the password to access the last level \o/ about 30 years later ^^; but what a game!!
EGQI WSUW XV2U VHRG
my password for a game I won't name xD
Rhoo la musique me replonge dans mon lit, le soir jusqu'a pas d'heure quand j'avais 12 ans... 30 ans plus tard, ça fait tripper de voir ça. Avec la super qualité meme pas en couleur !
Man it's been so long (29 years plus) since I've seen and played this! Probably the 1st third party GB game I played! I remember this in those giant Game Boy kiosks, you know those white boxes where you slip your head into to immerse yourself with the stereo sound and yellow light all while holding the handheld fixed into place in that box. Sometimes you'd get sore from using those kiosks though...What a trip this is, 1 of the earlier games around but so good. That town overworld melody still haunts to this day as the games unrelenting difficulty. Capcom need to do a color update and I'm surprised that there's no color rom hack of this?!...I need this game back in my life, we all do....
A game that just drops you into it. That first stage was probably the toughest in the game due to a lack of health and wing power.
Absolute classic! spent so many hours in my youth with it!
Whoa, this exists!
It wasn't a fever dream after all.
how did I even manage to finish that game, in the old days ?!?
Boy, I sure would like to see a nintendo DS adaptation, with better graphics but the same type of gameplay and difficulty :D
There is one on the Super Nintendo.
I was a baby when this game was released, but now I could play it for the first time on the 3DS. Good and hard game.
omg guys!!! its like tatoo in my brain!!!!! i am 30 years old and i play that on 1997.....
omg i love it!!!!!!!! halo from greece
Good memories, i wanna cry.
lol i always loved the tune that plays when you beat a boss
wow! I see this for the first time after 1990 ^^ "attacked... the king has been" it could be nice meme material
ONE OF THE BEST GAMEBOY GAMES EVER
i beat it but it took me some time. the music stuck in my head forever
I got to the end but still haven't beaten it lol.... I need to replay it sometime, as it's really a great game!!!
I freakin loved this game- Original Gameboy. Damn, that takes me back. Firebrand!
Born in 2004 and played this game, Finally found 10 years later today, almost cried
Now to find the other two in the trilogy!
When i see and hear it… i remember everything! All those moments 🖤
Great Game, Makaimura Games were realy great, great music and atmosphre, with some elements from classical jrpg system
19:48 and two seconds after .. brings back some great memories..that SOUND!
yeah that's the best sound effect ever
For me this was always a love / hate game .. Loved the Game / Hated the Difficulty level.
I played the game for days as a kid but I think I never actually beat it. So my memories consist also of frustration and joy
Man, I remember this game from when I was a kid. One of the first I beat.
After reaching the world map and the game opened up my mind was blown. I was about 10 in 1990 when i got it and maybe 11 when i finally beat it.
I've played this game, when I was only a 4-year-old kid... I enjoyed this so much... I'm glad, I found the game here...
+TheFameGameTV i play this i was 8 y old and finish it xd now iam 33 xd
+Warccful gameboy was past op grafik,,,,i am proud now...
Warccful It was my absolutely favorite game... :') Good old times...
That was one of the gameboy games that could ruin the buttons. When flying and hoping to reach the next platform before falling down, I pressed the button so hard. XD
wow...i had this game back in the days but hated it so much ;(
could never beat it
Meeeeee too!!
Oh yeah
holy moly ultra forgotten GOLDEN memories....
Man this game has such good music!!! Lol after watching this video I realized as a little kid I only saw less than 5% of the game xD
man when this game came out it was like the first english language RPG on the gameboy. even though it wasn't a true RPG because it was more action and they gave you passwords instead of saving. but i played it non stop. then final fantasy legend eventually came out and i almost passed out from excitement
I miss this game and I am glad to have played it. Never could get the sequel 😂
This game was so awesome! And it reminded me of Super Ghouls and Ghosts
This game is pretty fun but at the same time, like the Ghouls 'n' Ghost series which this series spinoff from, it's tough as nails. It's enough to make you want to tear the hair out of your head! But, surprisingly, I pick it back up to endure more pain just to get to the ending of the game. Why don't Capcom make a sequel after Demon Crest?! It would be cool if they did!
Without my Gremlin Stick my powers are very limited. If only I had it back...
>Yes
>No
From a Time without Microtransactions, AddOns, DLC and "Games as a Service". Not everything was better back then. Videogames for sure were.
This game felt really intense.
30 year ago..... i ve played this game... Was very gooood!!!!
I remember this game for being.imo....frakkin' hard!
For more realism, do not fullscreen this video.
I do wonder what would happen if you agreed to go with the villain
One of the very best game boy games I played back then (and still is). At the time as I played it, I still had not had any english lessons, but I finished everything without understanding the text ;). -Most early games of any console (around +-90s) had great and fitting soundtrack, like this one too.
It's been years since I haven't even see that game. I used to have it on GB and I spent so many hours playing it. Fantastic game. Now I realize that it's soundtrack and sound effects were really amazing (I love the sound when you hit bosses) Although the themes were very dramatic and a bit sad sometimes this was fitting perfectly with the game atmosphere. Brings back so much good memories.
best game ever for game boy
I had this wen I was a kid!! I have been looking it for years! This video brings smiles
Got the game when it first came out. I hated it at first and couldn't beay the first boss and didn't really understand the gameplay. I tried again some weeks later and it finally clicked. Then its became one of my most beloved videogame experiences. The musics in the game are really fantastic. A great great game and the only original gameboy cartridge I kept to this day.
I must be one of the few that actually didn’t find this game that difficult. If anything, it has Kid Icarus syndrome as it gets easier later on (you even get an equivalent of the E Tank from Megaman).
A good challenge but a far cry from the series it was inspired by. I even remember the exact path through the sand as to not get pushed around- I actually remember that taking me forever to figure out.
Just finished completing this classic for a 2nd time just now. 👌
MIDI files. Ah the memories.
40:30 programmers got no and yea mixed up
What a game!
I can't say what I understood back then as a kid (german speaking)...try and error probably. Scary enemies and level design sometimes...maybe I got some of my nightmares from this game :-/ Very special atmosphere also because of the sound :-) High text sound when you speak to the little gargoyle in the village imitating a young voice probably...lol
No internet! No code book! And no manual! I just had the cadridge :-D
It was such a great experience when you finally could make some progress somewhere and you can move on.
For example the items on the ground in the village...to walk over them and press the chk (probably "check"?) button to take it...just try and error probably :-D
Great memories! Think I play it again but on the advance sp with backlight! :-) and with understanding every word!
My favorite Gameboy game.
I had this game, cant believe how long ago it was now! I still have my gameboy and it works lol
omg THE WHOLE TIME PLAYING THIS GAME IT WAS FIREBRAND?! O.O whoa!!! i thought it was just a normal gameboy game XD
+Danny Dan !!! :o
i was 5 so ...
Fantastic game. Reminder of back when Capcom really knew how to craft a game. Lead into one decent sequel and one amazing one.
I finished it yesterday! Great game!
My first game boy game...damn i get nostalgic!
Best game boy game of ever!!!.
I was so happy when i finished my first run on this game
crazy to see this, so much memories
my favourite game boy game !
BendeLan Matte never played pokemon huh?
N Jinzo no, never played it, maybe its good, don`t know, i guess i was just to old when pokemon conquered the world...
+BendeLan Matte Same here, I was about or almost 20 when Pokemon reared it's head, too late for me to catch on to things like it. Stuff like Gargoyle's Quest though, still holds up nicely, nicely enough for me to have the entire trilogy in my collection these days.
Same!!
Yep one of my favorites as well along with Fortified Zone, Battle Unit Zeoth and many others.
omfg thaat muuusssssssicccccccccccccc
aaah the dialog voiceover!!!!!!
best gb game :D
Qué buen recuerdo! Ame este juego
the game was hard but i managed to finish it back in the old days. amazing .
Good old times.
I remember playing this all the time while serving fiends
Graphics so real you'll forget it's only a game
Apparently, my little brother found a cartridge of this game outside.
just like me when you're trying so hard to get to the top of the stage one but there's no secret there after all haha
Awesome gameplay, man! Now, onto the next game!
I could feel your heart sometimes 😅
So difficult when i was young
geil mein lieblinbgs spiel 1990... wow danke
