CS2’s first Katowice, live in the Spodek, came to an explosive conclusion. If you missed it, strap in because the greatest CS player in the world might be a teenager with a bowl cut.
Now, Kato was always going to be a big deal. Not only was it the first big tournament of the year but it was arguably the biggest event of CS2 so far.

The terrifying thing about donk is that, IF you can beat him, you still have to get through sh1ro. Terrifying roster.
sh1ro is is, or atleast was criminally underrated. Had stats close to zywoo and s1mple, without any of the attention.

The way the casters were talking about him during this event and for most of his career is as some statpadding onliner who can't handle the stage.
Last year his rating in arena matches was only lower than dev1ce, zywoo, NiKo, and hilariously floppy.
His lifetime rating at Katowice is the highest of any player ever* above s1mple, dev1ce, and NiKo
*to attend multiple times because technically donk is above him
In terms of lifetime LAN numbers he's above dev1ce, NiKo, and everyone else not named zywoo or s1mple (I still think NiKo and dev1ce are better players but sh1ro has a higher rating than both)
The biggest thing people forget about is they completely gloss over his rookie year. When people talk about amazing rookie years they'll talk about zywoo, m0nesy, and b1t. They'll also sometimes mention coldzera. sh1ro's rookie year was WAYYY better than m0nesy's rookie year: 3 MVPs and 6 tournament wins for sh1ro against m0nesy's 1 tournament win and 1 MVP. He placed top 4 in his rookie year in what is arguably the most impressive top 4 ever (the only other year in contention is EliGE's #4 in 2019). The only impressive thing about b1t's rookie year is how much s1mple won for him, individually it wasn't a great performance.
Pretty much any leaderboard that isn't ADR or impact he finds himself in the top 5 and always top 10 as long as your minimum map count doesn't exclude him.
Yeah i remember when gambit was rising with their OG roster, shitting on absolutely every single tier 1 team out there, think they had like a 20 game win streak, turned many heards. i watched nearly every game. shiro was lethal man. sadly gambit roster lost their mojo and since the roster changes shiro has been underperforming because the teams dont work. good to see him back@@prodalphanumeric

Magixx can clutch miracles sometimes. Boris Britva. Spirit called him talented when he was younger. That’s why he is still in the roster.

How I see donk is a kid who had a lot of doubters at his throat. Sure the “Save” call may be considered toxic but I’ve seen teams talk shit across their desks to each other; nothing new here.

So I'm a newb, and don't play CS, so can someone answer me something that might sound silly? How in the world is Donk able to kill that guy @ 4:50? Is he not just laser beaming that guy through the smoke? How is he doing that? Is there a visual cue, like the smoke moving with the player to notify him there's someone moving in the smoke? Or how does he know to shoot there exactly?
you usually spam that spot when that wall of smokes is up because thats usually the timing that Ts cross to secret(the ladder room)
donk has 13k hours in cs its probably muscle memory, hes been playing since he was 4 years old.

The fact that donk got the same rating as niko in 2016 with a 1.70 rating with double the map count is insane. His worst performance in a map is a 1.20 rating, that is almost MVP-esque numbers.
Fun fact: before the finals, he had a 1.63 rating.
After the finals against Faze, rating went to 1.70 rating.
the fact he played better in the playoffs is the wildest thing, i was expecting him to be like 1.4-1.5 in playoffs (still bonkers) but man was like 1.8+ in playoffs

@@uwemunsch7113you are correct my friend, on twitter i was stressing to every one that niko's 1.7 rating had 0.99 kpr and 0.41 dpr and he also had rain 1.61 rating guardain 1.32 even karrigan 1.2 etc
donk had 1.11 kpr, thats the difference, and still 0.62 dpr (pre low for an entry but no where near as low as an awper or lurk rifler), niok's rating is heavily influienced by deaths per round, he has jame esk deaths per round and good kpr but bro he doesnt even average 1 kill per round while donk gets 1.11 kills per round
niko in late 2022 and all of 2023 i feel like has been abit overated since his kpr has gone down but also his dpr has gone down and hence his rating is the same, he was producing more kills in prior years and thats why i thought he was unplayable but now he isnt finding as many kills (yes m0nesy does get alot of them so i guess but hunter has been shit recently and jks is gone so niko should be gettign more kills)

We were in the Spodek watching it and were literally speechless at Donk in the finals....
I was there, cheering for Spirit, and during map 3 I just felt sad for FaZe.
Almost entire crowd was against Spirit, but they still get Donked as they should ;)

It's insane that he was playing Academy at 14, I got my first PC and CS at 14 and I was too scared to play comp for a while. Couldn't imagine having to learn util and executes at that age.
During Katowice they said donk has been playing since he was 4 years old which is just mind blowing to me, bc at 14 he would've already had 10 years experience

I am really interested to know whether he could have possibly been cheating even on LAN. Remember these are Russian players and not only is this country known for war crimes but they have the worst international reputation for cheating in sports too, be in figure skating, cycling, gymnastics etc. I would not be surprised if he had some sort of communication based cheating (live feed of opposition locations being spoken to him), or at least I would assume he is taking performance enhancing drugs that would not be available to the opposition (powerful nootropics for reactions times, ADHD meds for focus etc). Either way it was clear that team spirit had an unfair advantage somewhere in the pipeline of these matches.

There was literally nothing FaZe could do, the amount of multi kill rounds Donk had, you just can't do anything about that! Going into mid rounds having already lost 2 players is an impossible task! Donk is insane but everyone is going to study the absolute fuck out of him now so this is where we will see Donks true powers!

I just hope he manages to stay somewhat humble despite all this hype and pressure. That will be a hard task for such a young man though. He needs to acknowledge that although his immense talent his team is also setting him up for success in many rounds. With that said I don't think I've ever seen a more complete young player in the 20+ years I've been involved with cs
Even Faker during his early days was kinda outspoken and not as reserved as he is currently.
Maybe Donk will go through what Faker did too, win multiple tourneys, fall and arise back more mature.
He's young so I'll give him some time, just dont cross any lines he's not supposed to.
Watch Donk's interviews guys, he doesn't take any credit and he doesn't even consider himself great. He gave credit to the whole team and he literally said that the final win was a team effort, he's humble

We also need to see how he's gonna react when the team is losing and if he feels it's because his teammates isn't getting anywhere near his own numbers. It's alot easier to be humble in victory than gracious in defeat. Time will tell and I'm looking forward to watching his next event, fucking inhuman kid

@srdjagunjic I'm not sure if we live in different universes, but the LEM games I've played on my smurf acc back in csgo were a clown fest.
Maybe you could get 1 good player (also smurfing) in like 3 games, who could prefire and preaim properly.
Also, it always looks easier, when you are spectating. If you feel like those pros weren't good enough: I encourage you to find demos and spectate them (looking for when they got peeked) without any "wallhack" highlighting they do for tournament spectators.

The kid is just naturally good and very smart player even ropz was accused of cheating before and played on faceit's PC and peripherals to prove his innocence.

Its a CS2 not CS.GO , it is a pretty much totally new game and it just suits him much more than others. There is nothing "amazing" on his tactic part but from what I saw is just shooting part and we can for sure agree that CS2 is still in development and constant updates and changes...and kid is not "little loud and toxic" he is everything that doesn't make an Esport player but just another toxic kid behind the screen. Not hating, just explaining that behavior is an bad example that is bein given to all the young players and kids watching and wanting to one day sit at the big tournaments.

And like I've said, I've never accused pros of cheating. I've never accused Stewie of cheating, I've never accused Ropz of cheating, I've never accused m0nesy of cheating, but donk...idk man...he doesn't look real to me.(the only other pro I would confidently say cheated was flusha).

I was at IEM Katowice and I actually didn't know Donk at all so at first I was quite susprised that so many people were "booing" at him, until I realised that he is acting like an annoying spoiled child

I must say, I was a little sceptic at first, but seeing Donk perform like this in a full stadium for the first ever time made me throw all of my doubt out of the window. I can't wait to see what the future holds

Donk is Numero uno, but the first two maps vs faze weren't just smooth sailing. On the 3rd faze dropped the ball, but mirage, dood, Donk wasn't present for half of the game. I legit think that the finals where great, and could've been greater if faze took the second map. Imagine how hype it would've been if spirit won their shit on the fifth map after a couple of ot's. Sadly chopper got some timings on nuke, and regained full power.on calling. Idk i think the first two maps weren't one sided.
