back then, the entire internet had a massive and recurring ddosing problem. servers would routinely get hit by an exploit that allowed people to send multiple gb/s worth of packets. it wasn't just csgo, it extended to many online websites and services. in the case of ibp, this match was already supposed to have been played weeks before they came back from a lan where they lost to vp. but because there was so much ddosing, it actually delayed it so much that they just decided to throw it and bet on themselves, thinking that they had enough matches won to make it to the cevo lan anyway. well, turns out they actually tried to humiliate richard lewis who was covering the matchfix, and what would have been either no punishment or a league specific punishment by esea/cevo turned into a ban from valve.
Its also important to note; that skins then were not only worth much, but pools were worth even less. NO ONE could forsee the financial future CS:GO had, at least not as players who had bills like rent to pay for. It wasn't some "oh sick ahh knife" thing it was a "we get a hyperx mousepad and 25$, and orgs take a cut, we need food" thing.
