It's such a good bit of subtle story writing that Coco asks Maya to play ludo, which was the game that she got distracted with in the computer lab, so she was even paying attention to that.
Also Coco learns to knock first before entering unlike part 1 when she barge in her room without knocking

I actually really appreciated how it didn't just turn into "Oh look, Maya is now fixed, she's going to play with her sisters and get lots of friends and live happily ever after!"
And the way she goes to hug her plushy and eavesdrops them anyways, because she still feels like missing out! This really catches the feeling of social anxiety and I respect that
I mean... I really connected to it. It's not fixed, but you do still feel like it's hopeless. You feel like she's still gonna be herself like she was at the start, but not someone who will end up unhappy with life. She will just turn out... Well... Fine... Not amazing, not horrible... Just... Okay. Because it's clear that there are at least a few people around her who refuse to let her be completely miserable, yet leave her alone enough to be able to decide for herself if she wants to work on getting less down and alone and/or lonely, and leave her alone enough to decide how hard she wants to work on it as well...
On the one hand, this is supposed to be the pilot of an animated series. If all the problems are solved in the pilot, then there is no series.
On the other hand, Maya being able to interact with her sisters without a meltdown wouldn't mean she's "fixed".
On the gripping hand, if Maya had said yes and gone play with her sisters, we wouldn't have gotten the absolutely amazing (if extremely sad) extended version of the theme song, so.

Basically what's going to happen is Studio Massa, now having completed the pilot episode, is going to try and get it picked up by people who can fund it properly as the petjeaf funding and quitting his job didn't go so well as planned. This will not be the end of Ongezellig!

I was already aware this series existed a while ago through memes, but only 2 days ago I decided to finally give it a watch and it was great. I've just rewatched it today and I feel so melancholic knowing the series has basically been canceled (or best case scenario put on hiatus for a while).
It's such a gem of an animation. Its narrative is pretty simple, but what makes it so special is how it mixes compelling characters with their flaws, backstories and development, European history, Japanese subculture, internet absurd humor, mental illness so effectively throughout its short duration.
I'll keep my expectations low, but I would be extremely happy to see this getting the continuation it deserves, be it animated or even in the form of a comic. Being a character-drive simple story I really crave to see them develop even further. Although I feel really glad this pilot exists in the form it does and it had quite the impact in me, it's really sad to think of the wasted potential a full series of Ongezellig could have. This three characters really grew on me and I already feel I've known them for a long while and this feels like such a bitter and unfair goodbye.
I don't really want to stretch this comment any longer but I just want to say: thank you, Studio Massa for giving us such a gem and such a lovable sisters. For now I'll be happy it happened and not sad it ended, but I really hope there will be a future attempt to make this show a reality however long it might take and I want to be here to support it if it happens.
Wish you all the best, Studio Massa and thank you for the magnificent work. Hope we can get to watch more Ongezellig one day... One can only wish.
EDIT: I couldn't really stay still and I digged around and found out the creator feels depressed and is sufferimg from severe burnout after working so long in this series. Can only imagine how hard it might have been making your vision a reality and animating this for four long years with very little funding. Once again, wish Studio Massa all the best and hope you get better soon.
Even if you can’t get this pilot off the ground, I hope you realize how many fans this small series has accumulated, and are rooting for the best for you. All of the parts have been fantastic! Enjoy your well earned break

I absolutely love all of the small visual gags in this whole pilot. They’ve consistently hit the mark and finding them all is always a fun excuse to re-watch them. Little things like Maya’s hair re-popping up, or the teacher’s lollypop that looks like a cigarette are just hilarious to me!
Mymy changes her hairstyle by pulling her necktie, until Coco drops doing the same and she has to tie her ribbon in her neck to fix it. She has the neck ribbon for the remainder of the series. Love that gag.
The actually end brought me to tears holy shit this show was amazing and is really good at making you feel what the characters are feeling and I personally found it extremely relatable especially with how it sort of seems like she’s going to develop significantly at the end but doesn’t hang out with them anyway.
The Finest Dutch gem ever made, dare I say no other can compare.

@@EATSFALCONPUNCH Yes, high school. You don’t just grow out of ADHD or ADD when you graduate 8th grade. I didn’t even grow out of it as an adult. It’s just now as an adult I have a real support system instead of my apathetic adopted mom and brother. I’d like to think I grew out of ADHD, but I was able to get back in contact with my biological parents that have given me unconditional love and support. And that’s helped me adapt to adulthood. Had I not had my parents I would not be in a good position today, I was on a very bad trajectory after I graduated high school.

I'm with you brother. Found this animation about 2 days ago and already watched it twice. I just feel such an emptiness inside that can only be filled with more episodes. Let's hope we're in the right timeline and we get more Ongezellig who knows when. I can wait months, years, I just need to see these girls develop their relationships and get through their issue. It just can't end like this...

Just found this series today and I genuinely enjoyed watching the entire thing. The artstyle was cute, I loved the animations. It's a shame I didn't find it sooner, I wish I could've financially supported before everything got canceled, I honestly felt very attached to all of the characters. :"( Much love from the USA, and I hope the series gets another shot someday.

After watching this pilot for the like 50th time I've only now just noticed something. Around 4:30 in the credits scene, Mymy and Coco play what looks to be a game similar to "Ludo" or "Pachisi" and If I remember the rules correctly, rolling a 6 lets you do three things: have another turn, get a peice out of the start area and or move a peice 6 spaces, Coco does this several times, so she rolls a 6, 6 times. This confirmed the suspicion I had of "I wonder if studio Massa hid something interesting in the game mymy and coco played at the end" Indeed, they did.

Это отличный проект, с прекрасной анимацией, юмором, запоминающимися персонажами и простым сюжетом, в котором нам всего за 20 минут успевают раскрыть ключевых персонажей (в особенности Маю и её переживания), не вводя при этом тонну пустых диалогов.
Будет обидно, если "Ongezellig" не увидит в свет своего продолжения, ведь историю ещё можно развивать, но даже так, эти 6 отрывков пилота я уже не забуду никогда.
P.S. Отдельный респект за субтитры на разных языках, в частности за русские субтитры.

i really like how coco isnt just portrayed as the dumb happy one the whole series, shes just a genuinely happy person that cares about her sister and even has her own problems
i really love how maya isnt instantly fixed by the end, but you can tell shes now on a better track to improving. just a little spark can go a long way in the long run. i really connect to this especially from personal experience

It's a little scary how I can empathize with so much of this at my age. But in the end, Thank you Studio Massa. I've been rewatching this pilot/show multiple times since I found part 6 a week ago. (edit: A week-ish ago. Doing the math that sentence didn't make sense.)

I've always cringed at the way these issues are usually tackled in most media. Ongezellig truly is one of those hidden gems that just hits every beat PERFECTLY. It's such a fascinatingly amazing portrayal of these mental health issues. I know I'm rambling, but I'm just in awe of just how well everything is handled so well, but maybe it's because I'm so used to socially anxious people just being the butt end of the joke. You can tell that the creator has genuine experience with these sorts of issues, and they just portray everything so perfectly, somehow being respectful while also being ridiculously funny. They really cooked a michelin-star worthy meal here.

Very well written throughout all of the episodes. I was actually afraid she was gonna suddenly be fine with hanging out with her sisters, but her saying no is a far more realistic and emotionally rich way to end it.
The final song is also a gut punch, as someone who’s experienced the same trauma she puts herself through. Great work all around!

Wat een gaaf project van Nederlandse bodem. Ik kan me niet weerhouden om dit met een grote lach op m'n gezicht te kijken. Iedereen die aan deze productie(s) heeft meegewerkt. Ontzettend bedankt voor jullie inzet voor het maken van goede en orginele content. Ik hoop dat we ooit meer van dit project gaan zien. Want de liefde die Studio Massa en het team voor dit soort dingen hebben zijn zeldzaam. Er zijn niet genoeg woorden om te uiten hoe vet dit is!

this was a fantastic cartoon with many good moments, smoth animation, cool face expressions, good pacing, good humour and a very promising story.
i really liked how mayas sisters helped her out with her school assignment, and how much coco cared about her, despite her being a rude person.
hell, coco even apologized for snapping at maya, even tho maya insulted coco and called her an orphan and having no parents, something that deeply hurted the (seemingly) cheerful coco.
but maya never apologized for insulted coco like that, she just wanted to push her away again, even if coco and mymy practically saved her butt by making her school assignment for her.
as for the ending, it was truly heartbreaking: when coco invited maya for a nice game of grumpy with her and mymy, maya refused to join them and preferred to stay alone, only to have her be sad and to eavesdrop them through the wall, as they had fun.
some people claim (wrongly) that if maya would've accepted her sisters request to play a game with them, that she would be magically ''fixed''.
but thats the thing: even if she wanted to play with her sisters, it wouldnt mean that she's ''fixed'' or anything.
she would still have social anxiety, she would still be an introvert with big trust issues, but she would just do the first step in socializing: by having some fun with her siblings who love and care about her.
this ending was even more sad and tragic because of that, and because maya isnt willing to sit with her sisters to have a small bit of fun together, as a family.
(even tho she wanted to hear what they were doing, as she was eavesdropping in the wall, so she secretly wanted to be with them, but she wanted to be alone more than that)
very sad situation, no matter how you put it.
i would like to see more of this great cartoon tho, and to see it become a big series (hopefully).

If only I knew about this serie earlier, I would have give so much money for it. Dude litteraly gave me the envy to learn Dutch. I will remember this serie as the precious gem that could have been bigger but destiny said "nope". I'm so sad mate, all my friends that watch it asks me why it's so short. The more I rewatch it, the more I see little cute things. And of course Maya gives the "that's litteraly me" feeling to so many people. If I were millionaire I would found studio Massa for few seasons.

That ending made me tear up a little. I swear this series being so short is a crime, I hope there's a season 2 or more episodes at some point.
Meer dan 4 jaar geleden was ik onderdeel van het testpubliek en zag ik als als een van de eersten hoe deze serie langzaam de wereld in werd gecreeërd. Het is een lange rit geweest, maar ik had toen nooit kunnen weten dat het zo goed zou eindigen! Het warmt mijn hart om de symbolische en emotionele conclusies, en om de namen van zoveel vrienden van vele jaren terug en nu, allemaal samen in de aftiteling te zien. Door goede en slechte tijden is dit uiteindelijk een prachtig voorbeeld dat we nog steeds één grote familie zijn! Gefeliciteerd en ga zo door!

Love the song at the end. Was keeping up with this series a few years back and didn't realize it finally ended. Wish we could see more of these girls. They'll always have a special place in my heart.
As an autistic person, i felt really portrayed by this. Some could say this was just a dumb pilot, but i almost shed real tears because i used to feel exactly like Maya. May god bless the souls of everyone of us 😢

During its 6 parts, it's able to capture multiple theme's\moods that all work together to make something, while still comedic in nature, also rather ground in its depiction of social anxiety\the kind of affect it can have on someone. These talks with fake people inside her head, as if she knew them for a long time, helps portray this feeling of loneliness. Maya wants to make friends, yet to afraid about the thoughts of another person, so she creates people in her head to cope with that idea, even if she knows they aren't real.
While this is only one example, i think it shows a clear idea and understanding for the kind of depiction that Studio Massa had in mind with a character like Maya, and it makes for a interesting dynamic between the comedy, and ' Heavy Topics' they show to the viewer.
Hablando desde Latam esta serie tiene un potencial increíble, si más gente la conociera sería parte del boom de series web que estamos viviendo ahora. Ójala un día pase del piloto y podamos ver una temporada real, y sino pues aun asi le deseo lo mejor a todos los involucrados y gracias por darnos algo corto pero muy especial.
