Apologies everyone for the crackling sounds on the recording. This audio file comes directly from a vinyl record.

davidofpiano423 who cares about those details if you can listen to such a personal and deeply convinced confession about Mozart!!!

Haebler and DeLarrocha and now Zimmerman . I didn't know he ever recorded this music . Such clarity without the unctious clipped staccato so many think is true ausgabe Urtext so that it's now a parody .

With reference to his Wiki entry, Zimerman must have just been 22 years old in 1978. This piece is played with such delicacy and maturity.

Beautiful! I really don't care about the cracking sound in the background. It's not the thing that I have to concentrate. In fact I'm very surprised that a 1978 recording was so clear. Also listen to Dame Mitsuko Uchida's!

DGG would like to do this. Unfortunately they've Zimerman's VETO! *too sad* Zimerman himself withdrew this excellent recording (IMHO best ever) along with Chopin's Waltzes and Brahms' sonatas ... Only Krystian Zimerman can tell why! ;(

Maybe he was not completely happy about the solutions adopted for some of the ornaments in this mozartian piece? Anyway, I think this one is a magnificent performance.

Zimerman piu' di altri sa cogliere l'ironia e le ombre di Mozart con linee naturalmente fluide ma sempre sorprendenti. Un poeta e un pittore.

In the middle movement, I'd put them on par - both slow the tempo enough to bring out the marked "con espressione" more than others, including imo the wonderful interpreter of Mozart, Uchida. I find both as a listener and a player this beautiful movement is elusive and hard to bring off in a totally satisfying way.

Why not? Indeed he won the Chopin Competition in 1975! And YES he was that good in 1978! 🤣
When I heard Krystian Zimerman the first time live in concert I told everybody who wants to hear it or not: "I just listened to the best pianist ever!" 😍

I prefer Krystian Zimerman over those two ladies any time! :D
Even tough Uchida is regarded as a Mozart specialist with this sonata (K.311) Zimerman shows a pearling and rhythmical "perfect" Mozart play! (Just like Dinu Lipatti with K.310 - just compare!)
I really cannot hear more fluent play by Uchida or Pires (on the contrary)! :P

These Pires Uchida Zimerman are all trash! Zimerman is a dull Robot with colorless piano sound! Dimitri Bashkirov her teacher Anastasia Virsaladze teach saying to Bashkirov the most important lesson is the love of beautiful colorful piano sound! This was already in 1930s! Really Shocking! All the modern players are cold colorless dry piano sound players like Kissin Zimerman Pletnev Hamelin Yuja Wang Pires Uchida and latest hype student Yunchan Lim! All the beautiful colorful piano sound players are gone dead like Wilhelm Kempff Emil Gilels Radu Lupu Artur Rubinstein Vladimir Ashkenazy Grigory Sokolov! More genius than Uchida Pires Zimerman=Sviatoslav Richter Solomon Cutner Grigory Sokolov Maurizio Pollini Stanislav Bunin Maria Grinberg! More powerful louder than Uchida Pires Zimerman=Mikhail Pletnev(Prokofiev piano concerto no 1 by Pletnev!) The Second Loudest ever was Lazar Berman! The 3rd Loudest was Erwin Nyiregyhazi! Horowitz his technique better than Pires Zimerman Uchida!!
