Jim: "It's a terrific job!" Stan: "Well you seem very happy with it!" ***[LEAVING TO CREATE IMAGE COMICS DUE TO WORK NOT BEING TERRIFIC INTENSIFIES]***
I'm jealous that I didn't push myself harder like these guys and become a successful comic book creator, this was an exciting time in comics with Death of Superman and Knightfall just around the corner.
What’s stopping you now? Get out your pencil and paper and start learning you can be 40 years old and still learn it’s not impossible.. don’t be a pessimist
As an artist, I can tell you mate, it's never to late.im 47 and I've only had a career in art for about 15. So.. before all that I was in art school s.v.a (NYC) then after school ended I became a teacher at my college, I did freelance illustrations for Hallmark, Hot topic..I sold 2 covers to IDW. I'm still teaching, so it's never too late mate...you can do it👍🏻💯 you can do it!!!! Cheers
I like doing that first panels layout in my own comics. Hearing Stan Lee say he liked it more may just have given me the final boost to finish this project.
He's doing such a great job even under the pressure of the camera and Stan Lee there. He looks so young but he has the demeanor and experience of someone decades older, amazing!
yes this was after , in the background of tod mcfarlanes one he has spawn drawings and image promos odviously stan was helping the guys out a little hoping that his good artists would come back or maybe work for both i think jim lee always did anyway it was tod that was like fuck marvel dc etc image rules blah blah lee left eventually to go to dc lol now hes a chairman etc at dc
In this Video Jim says he was drawing X-men #8. And #12 was his last, but I believe he was working on Wildcats already, so it was before the image books came out, but they were just getting image started.
Were these two shows really both on the same tape? A Stan Lee show about how great Marvel is, followed by a promo for Image comics talking about how lame Marvel is! Who put this out?
There is no comic book as great as the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers published by Ripoff Press. You can't read those comics without laughing your ass all the way off.
Ground Control I kind of like it. As nice as it would be to watch Jim draw in silence, Stan is asking a lot of good questions that the general public would ask.
You're not wrong. For as much as we, as a society, have romanticized and mythologized Stan Lee as a beloved grandfatherly personality who's a revered pioneer and visionary in American pop culture, Stan had some character flaws of his own that were kept hidden from the public. Within the comic book industry altogether, Stan was viewed by his contemporaries in the Marvel offices as a bit of a glory hog & shameless self-promoter. Whenever interviewers and various other pop culture commenters bestowed praise upon him, he never responded with enough of the requisite humility other comics professionals would've liked for him to, nor would he ever deflect the praise by saying it's all a team effort that would've never been possible without guys like Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, John Romita, and other creatives at Marvel HQ contributing and pulling their weight also. Stan always felt compelled to be the largest personality in the room he was standing in, and this had a tendency to rub a lot of the other comics pros the wrong way. In other words, as harsh as this will sound (even though I don't mean for it to because I'm also a fanboy who adores Stan Lee), Stan could be something of a narcissist, unfortunately. Things always had to be about Stan, and him constantly courting other avenues such as the college speaking circuit & TV interviews in an attempt to increase his own star/celebrity status. These aspects of his character are what drove him to be the pop culture giant he became. These are the types of people with the ambition & confidence to succeed in whatever it is they do. While these aspects of his personality are what made him & Marvel Comics so successful, it was also these same character flaws that repelled Jack Kirby & Todd McFarland into leaving him. There was a lot of bitterness and resentment that still remained with all these men, even towards the ends of their lives, unfortunately.
Lee meets Lee
Both are Leegends
An Enter the Dragon scene where O'hara draws Bruce Lee ,these two Lee's haha

@@porcupineracer2 it's the other way around, he has that skill because he puts in 12 hours a day
Jim Lee. My favourite comic artist OF ALL TIME.
I'm jealous that I didn't push myself harder like these guys and become a successful comic book creator, this was an exciting time in comics with Death of Superman and Knightfall just around the corner.

9:33 "Your life shall never be the same..." ... and ... he finds himself in the same dump. "Some habits die hard, I suppose".
I like Jim Lee's humor.
I like doing that first panels layout in my own comics. Hearing Stan Lee say he liked it more may just have given me the final boost to finish this project.
You said this 3 years ago did you? :)
Almost looked similar to storm to me and awsome drawing.
Stan Lee is just so Humble
that almost sounds like a Stan Lee quote
Stan Lee was a great salesman. He is trying to make sure Jim is marketing himself.
He's doing such a great job even under the pressure of the camera and Stan Lee there. He looks so young but he has the demeanor and experience of someone decades older, amazing!
I'm glad these interviews are here to watch and take notes on.
I’ll wait through all 3 parts to get to the second half of this one 😂
"Who are we?? The WildCats!"
"Who are we gonna beat?? The WildCats!"

The algorithm is blessing me today
Jeez. Had no idea Stan was such a slave driver as a boss.... LOL
Rip Stan lee

Just amazing!
Jim Lee, a genius.
WOW!!!! These guys were really geeks! :O
That black leather sofa must be the comic book casting couch. (Insert Homer Simpson shudder) lmao
I tried to remember what that would sound like, but in my head I heard the Sideshow Bob shudder.
Lol so funny . Wild cats “covert action team” that’s like saying “Ninja discreet martial artist “ lol
I still have that Wildcats #1
Ha ha. "Here's Whilce Portacio's work area." (shows desk buried in untouched files)
Can I get that drawing without the clothes?
Asking for a friend.....
Thanks for sharing!
It’s really hard to hate Stan Lee
It’s impossible
Impossibile, he's smart, smiling he's a real hero
The level of snark if off the charts lol
Just realized Emp is Jack Kirby.
He’s even trolling in the 90’s
Was this after they all left to make image comics? And if so how is Stan lee okay doing this video series with the artists that left marvel??
yes this was after , in the background of tod mcfarlanes one he has spawn drawings and image promos odviously stan was helping the guys out a little hoping that his good artists would come back or maybe work for both i think jim lee always did anyway it was tod that was like fuck marvel dc etc image rules blah blah lee left eventually to go to dc lol now hes a chairman etc at dc

Looks like Perry White yelling at Clark Kent
Magic exists!
Stan and Jim Lee.
Wait Is this the first concept of storm from the animated x men tv series?
Hey guys a curious question here, i am an AI/ML students and i would like to hear your thoughts on ai flowing into art like this nowadays
Hahaha even Jim as a kid see man like a 50 year old lolol
Were these two shows really both on the same tape? A Stan Lee show about how great Marvel is, followed by a promo for Image comics talking about how lame Marvel is! Who put this out?

It is like the restaurant owner is asking the dumbest questions during service, while a camera crew is there. I hope Jim got paid double for this !

I think stan was talking a bit too much. I like him but its like damn stan lay off a bit.
Ground Control I kind of like it. As nice as it would be to watch Jim draw in silence, Stan is asking a lot of good questions that the general public would ask.
It's a guide for beginners. Obviously Stan has to talk and ask the right questions.
Its his show, he has to ask questions and entertain the audience

I felt so uncomfortable listening to Jim be anti dialogue at points. Almost like he was supposed to be somewhere else working on something.
Well, he's drawing .. it's an activity that kinda takes you off a conversation
It's not easy to draw and have a flowing conversation at the same time, unless you keep pausing.
It's funny how I actually don't like Lee's art at all, but it's quite nice to hear him and Stan talk.
how can you not like Jim Lee's art?!
Do you have 3 hours? lol
Let's say I don't deny that he's a good craftsman, but I don't like his style.
MARC OSS what style do you prefer?
Jim Lee is one of the best, I'm intrigued to how you don't like his style, enlighten me
@IceCola I guess he can
The colourist never gets any love in the comic industry for me I find colouring one of the hardest parts
Tell me about it.
Without the coloring, I find some of the art by the 'greats' bland.
