If you take the intro into consideration, Gadd's mischievous behavior throughout the game seems more like covering his sadness from losing his ghost friends than from going senile.
yeah, seems like it, even more since gadd's still inventing as ever. Some people act that way as a form of hiding their grieving.

This is the best Luigis mansion. It only gets overlooked because it was a 3ds exclusive and you won't convince me otherwise
