Hi John great videos, just a small point I think I'm right in saying Parkside tools are sold by IDIL not ALDI lol

You are correct, Parkside is Lidl not Aldi.
I've got one of those socket sets. Great for keeping in the car boot.
Also, you can reverse the moving jaw, and turn the adjustable spanner into a pipe wrench.

Glad I checked the comments before saying parkside is Lidl, ferrex or workzone for aldi

You learn from your mistakes. You can also learn from others mistakes. Thank you for sharing John.

You do great on those aluminum car part castings and they can be nasty.

I used to work in a Seat garage (main dealership) years ago not long after Seat became part of the VAG group and many models had alloy sumps, that many sumps ended up with stripped threads they made everyone use a torque wrench when doing an oil change, think it was only something like 15nm.

Hi John, great video, never thought of using candlewax. Never too old to learn something new!
Those are indeed magneto spanners which is why they have the feeler gauge attached. Used them quite a bit back in my Triumph days - 500 Tiger.

Very good John. Those were definitely ignition/magneto spanners. Very nice to see them. Best wishes, Dean.

Great job shooting the heating/welding process so clearly, superb educational material- thank you!

Those sumps crack because of idiots who tighten up the plug all the way then a half turn more. The seal on the plug is the thing that does the seal, and needs to be replaced every time, but instead they just crank it down till the pan cracks.

I always try to put them back with a basic combination wrench if I don't have a torque wrench and spec handy, not enough leverage/handle to comfortably tighten much past spec. That a longer lever is not always a better one is one of those things I think everyone learns the hard way at least once.

"Tighten it until it breaks, then back off 1/4 turn" seems to be a standard procedure for the learning impaired wrenchers among many countries!

@@Broken_Yugo Yes, but some people have vice grips for fingers, and i have broken off M10 bolts just using a regular wrench as well, and not just the chinesium ones either.
