    I still remember my friend in middle school had the 10” Cerwin Vegas, slamming bass super loud… wish they would bring those back… price is a little high at 700 plus with tax for those dual 8”

    I have the SL-8's, with single 8" woofers. Great little speakers, good punchy energetic sound, sounds good higher up too, nice and crisp. Can be pretty loud if you want them to. I was quite impressed with these and still love them(4.5 years now). I listen to house music, old and new, old techno/rave, old pop/pop-rock, some hiphop. So if you like that kind of music(and has a smaller listening room) these are highly recommended. Btw i'm not new to CV's, i've had them for 25+ years, but chose smaller speakers now since i'm not a youngster anymore and don't need to play super loud.

      Good info. Thanks for sharing. I wish Cerwin would just improve the quality a bit....Even if it costs $100 more

    Thank you for review a Cerwin Vega speaker you are 1 of the 1st on RUclips to review a Cerwin Vega speaker.
    Cerwin Vega is the most underrated speaker company.
    when it come to audiophiliac, on RUclips they tell me that Cerwin Vega is garbage.
    I truly disagree 100% they are some of best speakers that I have, I have 15 different brands of speakers.
    I have the Cerwin Vega XL 215 and SL-15 and V120.
    I wish you would have review SL-15 or XL215.
    Thank you again.

      There really isn’t much on newer CerwinVega speaker reviews, hopefully the new owners send there new speakers out to be reviewed. I agree Tracy the larger SL series or XLS series would be a better review outcome. I have VS120 and modified SL12.

      Your welcome. Each review is always the persons opinion...nothing more and nothing less. Whats 1 persons gold is another persons garbage. There is no right or wrong. In this case I would like to see Cerwin Vega improve the quality of the speaker, and charge more for it. But have a speaker that does not feel like its made out of cardboard.

    Thanks for the review, the SL series of CV definitely looks cheap. They have since been bought out by new owners and are coming out with new speaker lines. Let’s hope they put more into the fit and finish on the new models. I have herd the SL12 and SL15. They are a 3 way and actually sound pretty good. Definitely a good party speaker. 🔈

      Your welcome. That's good info. The new owners should focus on improving the speaker. I think if they charge a $100 more and improve the quality all round they could have a really good seller as its hard to get a 8inch woofer speakers a that price.

    WOW, a actual audiophile review of a Cerwin Vega. I've never heard Cerwin Vega speakers. But I know that they are despised in the high end community. But let's see this video and keep a open mind.

    Dang, so much for their comeback. Had a pair of 3 way 12"er's while on H.S. (back in the 80's lol ). Cone surrounds are the worse tho. Made of some kind of foam that dry rots kinda fast.

    These are some serious speakers that play way louder than they look. I have them connected to a PA amplifier 800w per channel and they can handle the power and is able to play with full control all the way. They are fun to listen to and sound incredible.

    With these speakers manufacturers it’s truly sad when you spend say $400. Per speaker purchased then look at what it costs the manufacturer to produce maybe (25% in reality probably 12-15%) of purchase price we really wind up getting a speaker that’s just inferior in quality and performance to what we could have if they weren’t so greedy and invested just a little more in quality parts they could produce a much better product. Unfortunately that’s the way it’s done. I do believeCerwin Vega do produce decent products and if you’re looking for a speaker with woofers being larger than 10in like 10,12, or 15’s they offer probably some of the most reasonable priced speakers for example KLH’s Model 5 speakers are a 3 way with 8in woofers selling for $1250. Per speaker. Great video and sorry for the winded comment..😀

    • @OldtradesReviews

      That makes sense. Sometimes little more towards quality will sell more speakers.

    The foam surround is far more flexible than rubber. If they made them out of rubber the sound would be dramatically changed for the worse. I have made this change myself and it just doesn't work

    Thanks for the review. It looks like Cerwin Vega is just trying to capitalize on the nostalgia for 70's and 80's gear. This does not seem better in any way to their older stuff.

    I had Infinity ES speakers in the '80s. They looked nice but did not last. The foam rotted away and looked terrible without the screens on. Yamaha and Panasonic used to sell rack systems with their own speakers.

    Could probably do with an 8 inch mid range included .
    Rubber surrounds i think they would absolutely be more appealing plus better quality .

    The ProStax line from 18 years ago when Stanton took over CV before Gibson purchased them, are pretty nice sounding with a solid front-end. I run them with NAD amp and preamp and they do sound musical. Most of the boxes are ticked. No real offenses. I have the 123's, a three-way with Eminence drivers in a Baltic Birch cabinet. Purchased them new for $600 (for the pair!) from Hollywood DJ's in CA in 2004 and they have rocked 100's if not 1000's of private parties, including some nightclub DJing. They represent one of my greatest returns on investment in 25 years of pro DJ work. They are still going strong today after sustaining a couple hard hits along the way.
    I have Dynaudio, Paradigm, Beovox, B&W, NHT, JBL, and EAW speakers, either powered by NAD, McIntosh, QSC, or Crest Audio. I own Conrad Johnson and Digital Audio Labs gear. I've played musical instruments. I've listened to TAD and Klipsch systems, so I know good and bad sound when I hear it. CV made "some" decent stuff. I've used their V-152 MKII 2 way speaker and Sub15 system with a rebuilt and updated Bozak CMA 10-2DL rotary mixer behind a Denon front-end. With a NAD 218 THX powering the tops and a QSC 1300 USA amp anchoring the bottom half kegs coupled together, those cheap CV speakers sounded damn good bi-amplified, and musical too. We gutted the internal passive crossovers in favor of an active Ashly XR-1001 2-way x-over (another understated product). Placement and a solid front-end is everything!

    Though its nice to see the name alive, Cerwin seems to be a "zombie" brand. Everything about them, down to the website seems sketchy to me just my 2 cents. That said, I would fill those cabinets up with some R19 insulation, plug those rear ports up tight, and give er another go with the Emotiva amp. You DEFINITELY do want extra wattage in your amp than the speakers rated power brotha, gives them the "headroom" needed to perform at max. I hear the difference especially at lower volumes when your properly juicing your speakers. Those two 8's are good for an EASY 150 watts each, trust me ; )

    • @OldtradesReviews
      @OldtradesReviews  2 года назад

      @@OldtradesReviews I'd love to have that Emotiva amp ya got there! I got me the BasX a300 amp myself, the thing made speakers ive owned 20+ years do stuff I never thought they were capable of, seriously. Given the $, id likely go for the XPA dual mono's should I upgrade.

  • @AT-wl9yq
    @AT-wl9yq Год назад

    Amplifier power ratings are not reliable. There is no standard that manufacturers adhere to when taking their measurements, so everyone does it however they see fit. This leads to huge differences in power output when comparing amps with similar specs. Some companies are way more honest than others. If you took 10 amps all rated for the same amount of power from 10 different companies and measured them all the same way, they would all be different. That's why you can walk into a music store and buy an amp rated for 500 to 1000 watts for less than a thousand dollars, while real ones are going to cost 10k and up.
    Also, you can't have too much power. 95% of all speaker damage comes from underpowering the speaker. As long as you have a volume control, you can't have too much power.
