Their lyrics are often absurd to some extent but the context of the gay theme here is that Massachusetts was the first US state, and the sixth jurisdiction in the entire world, to legalize same-sex marriage.

I guess this song/video, besides being funny and entertaining, also is kind of a tribute to Massachusetts for being the first state in the US to legalize same-sex marriage. And Ylvis never fails to dive into a new musical genre, and they are crushing it each time😄

know some peeps from MA and they think its a fun song, despite some of the inaccurate parts (ie nelson mandela never lived in MA and Haverhill is pronounced wrong lol) some great ylvis songs in english i'd suggest checking out are
"yoghurt" "language of love" "Superstar in norway" (full vid is on the Ylvis in spanish channel), "You're fucked", "Normal Boy" (only context needed here is he's playing justin bieber lol). they have so many fun english songs probs close to as many as they have in norwegian but i'd def recommend those too at some point cus even with captions they convey so much humor
