Dude if i was the developer of this, I’d definitely sell it to the highest bidder. These guys would make BANK designing environments for game companies
The hyper-focusing in the intro alone is astounding! I know this is just a photo taking game, but my oh my how far gaming and the possibilities in them have come. Have a great day everyone!
100 percent could, in depth learning would be a bit of a reach but as a starting up thing say someone who is interested in photography, was saving up for a camera they could most definitely learn the basics on here and when they finally get the camera they want, they'll know what goes in to photos and a basic understanding of how photography works as a whole
They could add in horror elements. Like you have to find and capture pictures of bigfoot or the loch Ness monster or something. There's a LOT they could do with this game in so many different genres and it doesn't have to be a run and hide or fight hard or die. Just follow the clues to a place and get the proof. Or even photograph a crimes scene and try to piece together what happened. Tell the devs my idea, or I'll wait until you fall asleep, then pee in your orange juice so your breakfast will be extra special...... You know, after I find your address and then fly there from the UK and scout your house out to learn your routine and then, one night, boom, tinkle in the drinkle..... Lucky for you I'm a lazy lazy man and the chances of any of that happening is basically nil, but, are you willing to take that risk???
Now imagine instead of horror elements, they would add a fauna to the game. Which could turn into horror elements with warrying levels of intensity. Walking around to take photos only to find wild dogs, bears, large felines or similar and having no proper weapons. Being able to swim and fish, seeing birds interacting with the environment. Not to mention adding ancient ruins, magic constructs and so much more. No hard lore necessary, no explanation. You just walk around and see those things and your only true purpose is to take pictures of the beautiful scenary.
The close up details can be just loaded in the close vicinity of the player, load in the bump maps, normal maps and stuff, so that the gpu doesn't explode. And yeah, the detail work is insane
As a photographer and a gamer I feel extremely conflicted about this on one hand seeing the possibilities for an ultra realistic game gets me extremely excited on the other seeing a possibility for photography games to be one to one with reality makes me feel uneasy about the future of the art and industry but also the dystopian future where all authenticity behind landscape photography as a whole is gone and photographers are using a game on their laptop to get breath catching photos instead of going out there and working for it ahaha jokes aside though. Seeing igp play around with the camera settings especially the white balance hurt me in a way I can't explain!
Yeah, although it seems like a boomer outlook, I agree. This type of game should be used for environments that can't exist in reality, that would be awesome.
@@Kiev-in-3-days Just use Google Earth to find routes. What are you talking about? This game isn't the entire Earth how would you use it for that? And they are not going to make the entire Earth. I am *right.*
The landscape in this game reminds me of the beautiful swiss alps...I get to see these every day, cause I live here, and it looks just like the game...
I love this idea. When ever I'm playing a game that has a photo feature, I can spend literal hours taking photos. I'm a professional photographer as well outside of the gaming world. Just a couple of things I've learned while doing photography: If you can and it makes sense for the photo, put something in between you and your subject. Obviously keep your subject in view, but having something just in front of your subject and out of focus will give the photo more depth. Also (and, again, if it makes sense and if you can), take photos from an angle. In some cases for example, instead of taking a photo of a bench straight on from the front, take it slightly from the right or left and see how it looks.
Just typing this after going through the description and one question popped into my head Will you do an episode in VR when it is out? And who knows maybe they will put some horror elements into it for indie :D
As a half-assed amateur/hobby photographer, I think this is super cool. I don't know why I never thought to look for something like this when there's a sim for pretty much everything. I know it's not your usual type of game, but I'm super happy you played it and posted the video.
One of my favorite things about video games since I was little was the environments. Always had a blast just looking around! I admire the artists who do that part of development and it's why I want more games to have photo modes. My eyeballs appreciate it! Artist in me goes brrr
Yeah, I was really expecting some surprise horror elements in this game. When you took a picture of the well, I was like, 'omg, IGP...Do NOT turn your back on that well! Samara's gonna come popping out of there!'. Is this......anxiety?
That cross-shape on the mountain in the background reminds me of the "Mount of the Holy Cross" in Colorado. It's a gorgeous area, this gave me some real nostalgic flashbacks.
This will be on Steam aswell. Fushimi Inari is already on steam and it’s gorgeous. As is that one in Iceland. I’m excited for the full release of this, because it really showcases what can be done with visuals on a screen. Worlds so detailed without power put into combat and menus, that make you feel like you’re actually there.
Holy crap… Dunsborough is in it… that’s like amazing that such a small place in Western Australia actually made it into a game like this… it is a beautiful place but I’m blown away that the devs actually put it in.
The only thing that lacks is forest floor detritus, sticks, logs, rotting logs, boulders, leaf cover, trees that have fallen over and held up by other trees, maybe trees hit by lightning, birds, and general wildlife
I just imagine a game like Everybody's Gone to the Rapture getting a remastered update with environmental designs and graphics like this. That would make me so happy.
This feels like an actually justifiable situation where good graphics make sense. With a lot of big games these days they throw everything into making it look hyper-realistic for frankly diminishing returns.
Indie! Generation zero just got an update with two new awesome machines as well as a weapon wheel and some new base building pieces. There’s also some cool stuff on the western coastline! I would love if you could give it another shot!
Pretty sure the level of detail in this game would kill my pc, but it would be worth it if I could get that level of beauty in one frame. Like the work that must've gone into each model is insane. Good on the dev for making such a game.
That first collectible thing looked like it could be a shotgun from that angle and I thought it was about to get crazy. lol, part of me is actually a little disappointed that it didn't turn into some crazy horror game, but I guess it would take away from how impressive this is visually.
It would be amazing if the developers ,at some point, gave you the option to use different types of cameras. Like imagine being able to use an analog film camera. It would also be cool to be able to change the lenses. Depending on what they want the game to evolve it would be cool if you could chose different jobs. Kind of like quests. It would be cool, for example, to be a nature photographer. You could travel all over the world photographing different animals. There could be a difficulty system too. Like maybe, armature, professional, and then expert. The animals would be more likely to run off if you get too close as the difficulty level rises. It’s just an idea. I love the way this game looks. I’m definitely going to try it out myself.
I had a moment of paranoia same as you where I thought the game was actually secretly a horror game. Mainly because nearly everything you play is in some way shape or form a horror game, but also because it was almost too peaceful lol
I have always loved photography, setting up and waiting for the rite time of day to get the perfect shot. I never could afford a really good camera but I have taken some really great pics with my old kodak easyshare.
Dude, I'm already a game screenie photographer- Seeing this is amazing and would help me test or practice real life photos. Idt I do well with photos around the world because I actually dont like using or thinking about using all the 'filters'. I feel like it can take away from what was really seen, even if the photo does come out great. But in games- mostly like FF15 and mmorpgs- I take quite alot of screenshots/photos, and to me personally, I just really enjoy it and love how they come out. And there is no filters~! It just shows the true 'graphics' of the game~. I need to post an album somewhere to share my screenies. I would think some others would enjoy. My most recent is the recently shut down 'Tera' mmorpg. Took sooo many photos (and too many of just one pretty place) and quite proud of them~. *Also, great shots IGP! Anyone can be a photographer when you naturally understand how to place things in a frame :3
Wow. And yes, i'd love to watch you play more of this! i used to go Orienteering on horseback in the mountains and it was so much fun! In teams of 3 or 4, we had a map, compass, and checklist to mark the tree/bush/rock ect we were to find that would then give us the clue to the next thing we had to check off. Basically, it was like a scavenger hunt on horseback and so much freaking fun! Would love to have the option to ride a horse in this game! 🐎
Oh damn, they had the Fushimi Inari Taisha?! I'm gonna have to get this once it goes full release. That's one of my favorite places to visit in Japan, but it's a huge tourist sink, so there's never really a quiet time to visit it. There's always a crowd. It'd be nice to "experience" that place even in a video game just to myself. But this game looks insane with the graphics. I mean, it has clipping and stuff still going on with the assets (you can see grass blades swaying through the little flower clusters you get blown away by) but the realism that the game puts them in is enough for you to forget about all of that. As "mundane" as this game seems, I'd give it a whirl. I mean people scoffed at the idea of Powerwash Simulator.

If "realistic" games in a few years add this level of detail to a game, I could die a happy man.
depends how long they wanna work on it. this definitely took a long time to make.
Some actually already do. But because of the gameplay (especially in faster paced games), most people gloss over the detail of the environments.
Depends on how available gaming PCs become, cause not everyone will be able to run it, cause I'm sure the average PC owner has an i3/i5 PC.
Star citizen is already trying to put insane levels of detail at the moment. But this is next level.
Now they only need waifu

Totally legit
i would absolutely hire the developers of this to make such a beautyfull thing , if i had the money to do that

I like how in the first few minutes of the game, IGP was convinced that it was secretly a horror game when in actuality, it wasn’t.
Unfortunately

You could almost use this to teach basic photography, all the basics are there. You did a great job Indy. As always. :)
100 percent could, in depth learning would be a bit of a reach but as a starting up thing say someone who is interested in photography, was saving up for a camera they could most definitely learn the basics on here and when they finally get the camera they want, they'll know what goes in to photos and a basic understanding of how photography works as a whole
Well except some terminology is wrong, like ”strength” should be “shutter speed”. Otherwise I agree!
Wonder if you can move fast enough to use a high shutter speed, get some sort of action shots.
thanks so much for playing! this was great to watch, I have lots of bug notes now
