My teacher Ramesh Balsekar was a devotee of Nisargadatta Maharaj . His teachings are very clear. The only truth is an impersonal sense of I am everything else is a concept. His emphasis was on peace of mind in daily living. He and his devotee Gautam Sachdeva have many hours of teachings on you tube. Ramesh passed in 2009 but Gautam is still alive and well (June 2024).
Nisa’s book shattered my identification with the body/ mind: a pivotal moment. And an eye opener as it comes to gurus: not a person in a gown on a throne smiling, but a beedies chainsmoking feisty man pouring a peppered cocktail of wisdom and love for all those thirsty seekers. Magnificent 🙏🏾
Nisargadatta Maharaj Ki jai!! i came across "i am that" in a Krishnamurti place in Varanasi summer 2009. It was like a spiritual big bang for me.For years i studied with earnestness, almost whatever has been published of his talks. His teaching shaped my spiritual knowledge. Thankful for this video.
A close friend stayed in Mumbai in 1981 to 1983 to be with Maharaj. He told me one woman came for a visit and in his characteristic way Mahara very intensely said to her. “ what are you doing here, this is not for you, you chant japa, sing Bhajans you should be like Meera ,you follow the path of devotion, be like Meera.”.
I have struggled to truly understand what the *I AM'* is when told to focus on it. Invariably I find I stay in my thoughts trying to figure it out. But when he just quoted Nisargadatta saying *'The I AM is the AWARENESS **_before_** thoughts'* It suddenly snapped in place and became so clear. 21:48 thank you!
the I Am isnt the True Self...the I Am is is sort of in between the ego and the True Self..the I Am is always in conjuction with creation..the True Self is beyond anything created...its the True Self that is beyond thoughts..when you realize It the everything and the nothing will vanish...
You may find what Eckhart Tolle said helpful…”the silence that follows I Am is closer to who you are than any word or concept.” The irony is that the individual self, (the personal ego) which doesn’t really exist except as a thought, wants “it,” but it can’t have it because it’s very need to “own” is what prevents us from seeing that we already are what we seek 😂
So grateful to hear your thoughts on Maharaj. I was not ready to digest his glorious teaching until only recently. It has cleared up so much of the/my delusion.
Sorry this misses the point. "I am" was intended to be a stepping stone to the Absolute Supreme Reality (his words) which is . . . well see for yourself what it is because that will change over time. As he said frequently "Just keep going . . .Just keep going beyond". Upon deep reflection it is hard to find anything of consequence different between his teachings and Dzogchen. Every single time I read his words they have more meaning for me through the passage of time and my own changing understanding. Finally now it's as if each and every word is exploding off the page. Nothing wasted. Nothing extra. I consider him the greatest spiritual teacher of our time and I don't know everything but I've deefinitely done my homework. Of course great for my karmic situation. We are all on our own paths to the same place. Good luck everyone. You Are That.
right..nisargadatta realized the True Self..the I Am is not the *True Self*..meditating on the I Am, which is the sense of i, (more like the ego) when there is creation is similar to meditating on the witness consciounss, or the the presence of god..when you realize the True Self there wont be anything created..the True Self is beyond anything created..the True Self is prior to the everything and the nothing..
Ill give you the simple version 1.)Basic logic tells us the observer and the observed must be separate from each other. 2.) "I observe my mind" i think we all agree on that. (Mind=thoughts, feelings, senses, etc. Body is matter and Mind is a more subtle form of matter. They both change over time.) 3.) so what is that "I"? I always assumed it was part of my mind. But it cant be. So "I" is that permanent, unchanging blankness we have all known forever. 4.) i like the term "Pure Awareness" more than "consciousness". Consciousness gets conflated with Mind by a lot of people Hard part getting into that "flow state" or "samadhi" or whatever you want to call it. Used to happen to me while dancing on LSD and /or MDMA in the 90s. Then a few times while running (around mile 7) but that was short lived, maybe 20 seconds each time. But then in 2013, two years after i got into Ramana Maharshi. But still hadnt had any success. I was stuck in traffic one day, and asked myself "to whom do my thoughts occur?" Obvious answer was "to me" So then i was like "well then what is that me?" And BOOM! I snapped into that same state (i used to call it hyper-awareness before i knew anything about Vedanta) but this time it lasted for several hours and i knew a few things so i could think about it (and i was sober) After that i got into Vedanta and Swami Sarvapriyananda and everything he said made perfect sense Edit: its still super hard for me to meditate and i never get to that samadhi state much at all. But i do know without a doubt what i am
Somewhere I read Nisargadatta quoted as saying that reading the book "I Am That " from start to finish could be misleading in that it was answers to individuals (as Adya points out ) - hence the apparent contradictions in his directions . Perhaps taking one line and delving into it is beneficial. Dwell in the sense of ones' Self (I Am ) . That Self is everyone and everything , without trying.
Earnest ...? yes very important what a lot of aspirants don't realise is that there are qualities of mind, the maturity of mind required to be single minded in this pursuit ? Single pointedness is one a burning desire for freedom is another without these, good luck for it won't work ?
Wow. I heard his name through another spiritual video, but couldn’t for the life of me decipher how to spell it! The auto generated RUclips captions weren’t any help. And it led me to type “naza sergata” into Google. Nothing came up. Then strangely enough this video pops onto my feed today- I had to do a double take! Thank you, Light for guiding me here. 😊❤ the universe is magical
Nisargadatta, the Beedhi Baba, should have applided is doctine to his body "Sadhana is a search for what to give up" since he smoked like a chimney and died of throat cancer (not to mention all those who had to breathe his second-hand smoke to listen to him...). But thank you for the interresting video !
what does it mean non duality? I am a Christian, and the self and soul are two separate entities. When the Soul wakes it up it consumes. the human host consciousness. so there is a duality, which becomes one.
the duality is an illusion but nonetheless real in the sense that it's on that level the world appears to work, all religious traditions have a mystical nondual branch, in Christianity there's f x master eickhart and Therese de Avila among others, check them out, ;as it's said: 'my father and i are one'
@@denlillaekorren why is it an illusion? this gives the impression that life is not real. but you readng my text is real, or as real. as we can discern. so this language doesn't get to the heart of the matter. how does one live forever?
We'd love to hear from you!

Well the Holy Spirit was my teacher
Roger Castillo also is a student of Ramesh S Balsekar. He's alive and well and teaching. His Satsangs are listed on his website. Check it out. ☮️

yes, exactly, i often use it as some sort of meditation, read a line or answer and feel the present awareness
❤❤❤
sri nisargadatta realized the True Self by meditating on the I Am..the I Am is not the True Self. *the word THAT means True Self*
