    Joe...you’re a prince amongst thieves. These speakers are so different. Thanks for clearing up an very foggy topic. I ended up getting a couple of 1950’s Magnavox 12” alnicos and it opened up the EQ response I didn’t knew existed on a 65’ Ampeg Reverberocket. 40-50 watt alnico speakers. Johan has lived out all of our better lives with amps and speakers.
    Each rig is so different from the pickup, cord, Pre-amp and power section, speaker and player attack. There is so much that hasn’t been adequately covered when it comes to these rabbit holes.

    Hey Joe, just wanna tell you what I’ve been up to. First; bought myself a Princeton Reverb Sable color with a Celestion 12” spkr. Amp was a 65 RI with circuit board, not handwired. Ordered some Jupiter caps just 6 for the tone circuits. Throwed out the Celestion, put in a Fane A60. Did get a hold of 2 old Russian 6v6 power tubes from a neighbor. Have a great amp tech that changed the crappy small caps and managed to install the new ones. A60 made the greatest difference in sound very clear and sweet! Tone caps tamed the sound from being a little cold and midrangey on the overall frequencies. Sounded more organic and clear afterwards. I am very happy with the result. Plugged in my Bloomfield sign Les Paul with Creamery59 humbuckers and it sound marvelous!

      Hi Curt - excellent choice on the A60! :-) Great to hear that your setup is working for you all round!!

    Vertical 2x12 cab (Zilla) with Alnico up top for midrange bite and Ceramic below for tight low end. Job done ✌

      Zilla is probably where I'll go for it :-)

    Really enjoyed the whole series - thanks! I’ve had a few blues and currently have been running the cream solo in a SF Princeton Reverb and paired w an Heritage G12M in a BF Pro Reverb. I usually end up having to pull 3-6db of ~700-1000hz when I’m recording these speakers as they’re so “honky” and really compete with vocals etc. I appreciated the flatter sound of the Fane quite a bit and I think the other speakers would end up getting eq-ed more towards that in many full mixes. Less exciting solo in a bedroom I suppose than the hyped Celestions which also help with loud cymbals and bass players ;) Anyways, thanks again for the excellent work!

    AC30 user here, blues, Golds and G12Hs for the past decade. You have done the hard work,, and I will hopefully benefit. I have always found the sound to be too etched in the high mids, and dialling back the tone removes the sparkle. Pair of A60s ordered.

    "...I've left it more than a few weeks, just to give all your comments and questions a chance to come in..." Oh. I thought maybe you'd decided to get caught up on all that procrastinating you'd been putting off for so long...
    Nice rap session on your method on the previous videos and other points (like Fletcher-Munson and so on).
    What I like about your channel is how I don't get any salesmanship vibe.
    Good luck with the 2X12 acquisition and testing project.

      Aha, there's rarely any procrastination around here :P Yeah, I'm not trying to sell anything - just demo great gear :-) Fingers crossed I'll be able to grab the 2x12 soon!

    Thanks for trying this.
    Unfortunately there was pretty much nothing I could gain from this, other than the Celestions were generally louder (though that may be important to some).
    To compare eq, level matching is the first and pretty much only rule.

    Joe, the question is about closed and open back cabs. I have an alnico gold 10 and a 12 vintage 30 in different cabs. Seems like a closed back gives a bit more definition. Your thoughts?

    • @JoePerkinsMusic
      @JoePerkinsMusic  4 года назад

      Closed back certainly gives you a more thumpy low end and more 'throw' (as more of the sound is reflected forwards rather than coming out the back). I'm hoping to get a 2x12 soon with the ability to be open & closed back, so will try to look more into this later this year :-)

    Great video Joe, i wonder how the Fane will sound on an "american sounding" amp

    • @JoePerkinsMusic
      @JoePerkinsMusic  4 года назад

      I imagine it'd sound great - the only American-voiced amp I have is the Cornell Romany and the A60 sounded spectacular in that in the original demo I shot of it :-)

  •  3 года назад

    Hi Joe, thanks for useful explanation. Maybe I miss it but I read somewhere the same speakers could sound differently depends on its impedance, I guess 8 Ohms version has more sweet tones and 16 a bit harsh at top end. What is an impedance of A60 you tested ? Thanks!
