Watch until the end for different examples of slide blueprints that you can use in your daily work! Are you serious about learning to create top management slide presentations? I created an online course on that, here is a discounted link: link.firmlearning.com/slides
I work as a strategy manager and the presentation foundations in these slide are spot on. Some things which your slides adhere to but you forgot to mention is the rule of maximum 3 color in which the darkest color is the highlight color for what you want the audience to focus on. Another principle these slides are following is the use of fairly “soft” colors :)
Hi Heinrich, I recently jointed a multinational corporate as a management trainee after graduating and always have had a strong interest in learning consulting skills. These slides you showed really demonstrated what an illustrative presentation means and your slide blueprints perfectly explained how to make structured and neat slides consistently.
1:30 the point of slide blueprint: to product quickly to a high quality. 2:45 avoid: 1. SmartArts 2. Multiple font size (on one page). and follow: 1. every page is a table 2. speak for itself --> generally thumbs of role. beamer 投影機(同data projector black and white color scheme. 11:25 title column & detail column. 13:35 every slide speaks for itself. imagine you work in a client room .. but not likely due to confidentiality. top management wants to understand without you being there. 16:50 this is some kind of table column. 18:50 in this way, you can focus more on the content. 19:50 a virtual double click on the table. 22:50 then this is maybe a bit more arbitrary. ...: coming out of nowhere. 25:15 note all the labels, including footnotes and so on.
Colour behind text definitely a pain! During Covid home learning frequently had colour! My son needed the presentations printed out and so I had to remove it all!
Could you maybe give an example for the "methodology" column? Never seen that one before and in your examples you also don't elaborate on the methodology / have such a column. So I'm kinda surprised why is it then in the blueprint?
Indeed not used super frequently. You can talk about how exactly you conducted the analysis, what calculations you performed etc. (if this is not straight forward otherwise). Best! Heinrich
@@Knowledge_Nuggies Yes, though you would rather write the bullet like this: "- Survey results on Y based on qualitative interviews with X industry experts - ..." i.e. avoid full sentences in your bullets. Best! H
Hi Leon, thanks for reaching out. Will probably create an updated version of this video soon, also containing a download link to the slides. Stay tuned! Heinrich
Created the chart with the think-cell plugin, though you should be able to get to similar results with the built-in PPT charts as well (think-cell is amazing though :) - Best, H
Great videos..can you share the 3 or 4 slides that you give examples of in this video? Is there a library of these slides that is available online? thanks
Even though the content of the video is true, the actual difference between consulting boutiques and Big4 ones, when producing slides, is that Big 4 consultants actually manufacture there own, whereas for example McKinsey send their drawings to designers (normally in India) to produce them over night. At the end, McKinsey is charging the client 4x more for the same thinking, same conclusions, same designs as any Big 4, plus, their margin is way higher. Thats a great example of a branding and productivity advantage. On the other hand, clients need to start buying more consulting oriented projects... we should stop selling slides, and start delivering. #goalorientedconsulting
Hi, thanks for your comment! When you have more then 1 page, you can duplicate the layout and write "... (1/2)" and "... (2/2)" in the action title. Best! Heinrich
Hi Vangelis, thanks! I am using MS PowerPoint for creating the slides. This is still the industry standard and pretty much the main tool used for slide presentations in the business world. For the charts, I use ThinkCell. This is a plug-in that enables you to create charts much quicker and better looking than with the built-in PowerPoint functionality, can highly recommend it. As far as I know, ThinkCell is also used by pretty much all large consulting firms, as well as many bluechip companies (e.g., DAX in Germany). Hope this helps. Best, Heinrich
Do you provide templates to start adopting what you train or do we invest adequate time from scratch and master the format? I feel a blended approach would be great ...one can LEARN and one can ADOPT in real time, right?
Hi Ravi, indeed, fully agree! Most consulting firms have an apprenticeship model where consultants are trained during their projects on the job. This indeed seems to work well. Best! Heinrich
Hi, these things are only very rarely used, many people also consider them unprofessional. Main reason is probably that most PPT presentations are not even presented but rather printed out as documents and then jointly reviewed in meetings. Best! Heinrich
Heinrich, this „measure / rationale“ slide is horrible! How can „north America“ be a measure? Shouldn’t it be „strengthen NA“ or „further explore NA“? Same for APAC. Also, some of the measures have one line, others two, others three. Would recommend to go for two lines ;) as you said, slide also needs de-wording. Would further recommend to either not have bullet points (if there is only one bullet per measure) or (even better) have three bullets per category. Not talking about that there might be better options to show feasibility of growth measures (btw. Wording should be „growth measures“ in the table, as the Headline dictates). Anyway, really good content and I am sure that in one of your paid courses you show this slide as a „good start“, but with many room for improvements!
Hi Simone, thanks for the feedback! This is one of my older videos, agree that the audio is not ideal. The newer ones should all be much better .) Best! Heinrich
Hi Balu, not here unfortunately, but e.g., my Udemy course has a slide deck with templates as resource. Trust you can also find lots of similar slide decks online. Lots of success to you!! Best, H
