  • Big Tobacco is trying clean up its image, moving into the booming e-cigarette business which continuing to peddle the deadly tobacco products. This has left public health officials in Canada, the U.K. and the US
Five million Canadians still smoke. Could e-cigarettes help wean them over to a safer nicotine delivery device? Many ex-smokers say 'yes.' E-cigarettes are their salvation.
Health Canada is on the cusp of deciding how e-cigarettes should be regulated. Mark Kelly heads to England -- a country that has taken bold steps in embracing the e-cigarette as a safer alternative. Will Canada? And what will this mean for our e-cigarette industry?
Until now, e-cigarettes with nicotine have not been endorsed by Health Canada. And that's kept Big Tobacco out of the Canadian market. Will new regulations open the doors for a tarred industry to join in the e-cigarette revolution?

I had my 1st cigarette when I was 10. By the time I was 12, I smoked regularly and was even allowed to smoke in the house. I smoked for the next 48 years, 2+ packs a day, 2 cartons a week. 4 years ago a friend told me he had quit smoking by vaping. Like most smokers, I have tried all the different ways to quit with no success. Just the thought of not having cigarettes made me anxious and I was beaten before I even tried. I went to the vape shop and found them to be very helpful. Upon taking my 1st hit I knew right away this will work. I left the store with about $150 worth of equipment and juice. I have now been smoke free for 4 years and my only regret is that this wasn't available in my youth as I could have avoided a heart attack.

Bipul Soti so adults that like flavors are punished because parents can’t control what their kids do? You said that flavoring is illegal cause kids may get addicted right? But didn’t see what I said. Flavored Alcohol won’t get kids hooked? With all the problems in the world I think we can all agree that these problems are small compared to the real issues at hand. I’m 35 and stopped smoking after 20 years because I picked up a vape. And guess what? I smoked flavored juices because cigs were nasty. So flavoring is the problem and to act like adults don’t like sweets and we should be punished is dumb.

AC1986Poe NO NO NO that’s not the way to see it. Vape is actually perfect. NO proof or anything pointing that long term use could lead to anything harmful. The best argument big tobacco companies have is “we don’t know yet”. “It May be harmful in the long term”... bullshiiiiiiiiiiiiit!!!
it’s vg, pg, food grade flavoring and nicotine. The first 3 are known and accepted by all to be safe. And there is the nicotine. It’s addictive, it messes with brain chemistry, it’s poisonous. But you CAN vape without nicotine! You can’t smoke without it, no cigarettes ever were without nicotine. You know why? Because no one would ever use them past the beginning. Now, if you vape with nicotine, you are addicted to nicotine. That’s it. The long term affects of nicotine is not known because only smokers daily use it and there were far worse things in there. Unbiased opinions (without clinical trials that’s what they are, informed opinions nothing more) point to be not harmful in a way that it could cause cancer or pulmonary illness or whatever. But you are still an addict. IF you vape with nicotine.

Nicotine is a sterilizing biotoxin, an anti-fertility tool of genocide. Delivered in ultra high concentrations masked by sweet candy flavors, pens, vapes, and e-cigs are an effective Means to the ENDS ( Electronic Nanoweapon Delivery Systems ) The chemical cocktail inside acts as an effective vector to deliver dose dependent pharmaceuticals directly into the blood supply, including a wide variety of nano particulates capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier, to directly effect the hippocampus and mid brain structures. Invented in China, approved by the Communist party - for sale to westerners only.
[All use, sale, and import of e-cigarettes is illegal in the Taiwan. Even jet passengers are not allowed to carry e-cigarettes and e-liquids into Taiwan. They know what it's for, and they know what's in the chemicals...] Ultra high dose nicotine to sterilize American and European populations. Artificial Flavors that cause Real Cancers. Elimination of the Ignorant by the science of the Intelligent. So very obvious, and so, so easy. Extinction is Forever.

kath david there is no deception. Nobody is under the impression nicotine isn't addictive, and some people vape without any nicotine. I never wanted to quit smoking simply because it's addictive, it was the health issues. I enjoyed smoking, now I enjoy vaping. I would be doing it whether or not it was addictive. I'm getting roughly 20% the nicotine I was while smoking, by the way. With vaping, it's also a lot easier to control exactly how much nicotine you get and wean yourself off it.
So yeah, they're both addictive, but vaping doesn't trap you into that addiction nearly as much and doesn't cause the health issues. And those are only the health related benefits. It also smells good instead of terrible, doesn't stain your teeth and ruin your skin, and it's much cheaper. To act like it's not an *immensely* superior alternative is pure ignorance, but to act like they're equal is sheer stupidity.
You must have stopped reading after the first sentence, because he goes on to mention how he got bronchitis twice a year as a smoker, and hasn't had it since. Or is that just a part of the deception and this year he'll get bronchitis 10 times?

      @Splucked 7 лет назад +1

+Amy Hamilton I think he might be referring to the chemical diacetyl. It adds butter flavor and is safe to eat and drink. However, it's been known for a decade or more that inhalation of diacetyl damages the lungs. The symptoms are just like COPD; coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, etc.
The argument is a long, convoluted affair and the (alleged) major concern has evolved into the claim that sweet flavors entice kids to use ecigs. I am referring specifically to the products that mimic cigarettes in size and shape. What puzzles me is, who was selling these nicotine products to kids in the first place?! But I digress.
Vaping evolved immensely in the last 5 years or so. Vaping devices and eliquids became more complex. Ejuice makers and DIY vapers became a lucrative segment of the customer base for flavor concentrate manufacturers. When the stats on diacetyl became widely known, many manufacturers reformulated flavors, eliminating diacetyl. Those who haven't reformulated routinely include disclaimers on their websites that their flavorings have not been evaluated or approved for vaping.
I don't know any DIYers or ejuice vendors who use flavorings that contain diacetyl. On the site where I purchase my flavorings, there are clear warning notifications on every flavor concentrate that still contains diacetyl.
If ecig makers in the U.S. are still offering products that contain diacetyl then they'll hopefully be regulated out of existence by the FDA.
Sorry that was so long winded.

    • @hellraserfleshlight
      @hellraserfleshlight 7 лет назад +6

This is a concern, but a much larger one with "closed system" devices (commonly referred to as "cigalikes") than with "open system" devices (devices that come as components).
Generally speaking, the biggest point of danger, is in the heating element, known as the "coil," and the liquid. Closed system devices come as they are, and are typically, if not always disposable with very little control by the user. Open system devices, even those made in China, are generally manufactured from high grade materials and most enthusiast devices, known as "rebuildables," have all consumable components chosen and installed by the user. Additionally, the liquid used in these devices is 100% in the consumers' hands and almost always, a domestic market product; it's actually rather hard for me, as a US consumer, to find imported e-liquid without going out of my way.
So, unless you intend to use something like a cigalike (which are now mostly produced by the large tobacco companies), I don't believe your exposure to the presumed hazards of "Made in China" is particularly significant.

Do you think people are going to willingly choose to buy any other product from a company that knows it's products are likely to kill their customers in the long term, yet they continue to market it?

Cigarettes, and other tobacco products, have a sin tax which creates the US billions upon billions of dollars in profit every year. Vaping is slowing down tobacco sales, so the US isn't making as much money. That is why they keep trying to put an end to it whoever they can. At first they lied and said it was unhealthy and/or caused issues, but every study has proven vaping is safe so they stopped trying to use that. Their current attempt is by lying about vaping targeting kids, hoping to tug at the heart strings of Americans. Another lie will be coming soon, unless the government just bans vaping, which will simply create an underground market for vape products. They're scared because they know their multi-billion dollar a year racket is coming to an end....

Im wondering where Tobacco companies plan on selling their vape products. Working in a vape shop I would do all I could to direct people to other products from companies unrelated to tobacco. Big Tobacco missed the boat, have fun selling your crappy products in gas stations where the people selling them don't have the slightest clue about your product.
New Vapers buy from reputable vape shops and talk to employees who know what they are talking about. We specialize in Vaping, we know the ins and outs of all our products. We are here to help anf we know the benefits. We were snokers, now we aren't.

I can say that without a shadow of a doubt that vaping saved my life. I smoked cigarettes for 30 years at 2 packs a day. I started experimenting with smoking when I was 12 years old and by the time I was 14 I was smoking on a regular basis. I quit smoking back on October 7, 2012, 2 days after my father died from cancer due to smoking.
I had very severe sleep apnea because I was a heavy smoker. Two years after I quit smoking my doctor sent me for a sleep study to see if my sleep apnea was still bad. Two weeks later I went to see my doctor for the results from my sleep study. My doctor was floored to see that my sleep apnea was gone. She said that it was because I quit smoking and she asked me how I quit smoking.
I told her that I quit smoking with the help of e-cigarettes. I said to her that I was weak and that's why I used e-cigarettes to help me quit smoking. She told me that I wasn't weak and that quitting smoking is the hardest thing to do. She also told me that she supports me vaping because it saved my life.
My wife is very proud of me for quitting smoking and she supports me on vaping. Me smoking scared my wife because I could've gotten cancer and possibly died young and made her a widow at a young age. It also scared her because her father died of a massive heart attack from having undiagnosed sleep apnea.
I'm just happy to be free of a deadly and stinky tobacco addiction that had me trapped for 30 years. I no longer smell like an ashtray nor does my wife have to kiss me after I have a cigarette. My wife loves the smell of the e-liquids I vape, she calls them mini air fresheners. In fact my wife vaped 0 nic Spearmint e-liquid to help her get through a pretty bad cold. Whenever her nose got really stuffed up she would take 3 or 4 puffs off of the e-cigarette that had the Spearmint e-liquid and it would her clear her nose so she could breathe.

I have been a smoker, sometimes a really heavy one (parties, gaming all night long, watching movies all night long) for 6 years. I wanted to quit smoking for financial reasons, but given how heavy of a smoker I was - coffee in the morning, beer in the evening, it felt almost impossible to me. Then, I spoke to a colleague of mine who can be considered a pro when it comes to vaping - he was a heavy smoker too and quit smoking, for 4 months now. He explained all the basics for a noob like me and introduced me to vaping. I ordered one, he helped me set it up in the evening. The next morning, I totally forgot about it, and with the morning coffee, I lighted up a cigarette. Then I was like: "Wait, I have spent a significant of money on this device!"
It has only been 2 days of non-smelly fingers and ash, and the smell of Lemon Waffles. And sometimes, because of pure habit, it takes strong will not to light up a cigarette (two packs still staying unpacked). I associate certain things with cigarettes - coffee, beer, alcohol, gaming, reading, watching movies at home, working at home.
As a heavy smoker, it is tough and I keep the pack of cigarettes with a lighter in front of me, in front of the monitor. And every time I reach for it, I take a few seconds to think, analyze: Why? and then I retract. It is an addiction, a 100%, but for me, personally, I realized it was just a habit - as I was smoking in certain situations - and when these situations occurred, even if I didn't feel like it, I would still light up one.

@@TheInsaneFellow Personally I would go for a pod system and try something like 20mg salts. Pods are much better for when you 1st quit. I actually started with the Uwell Hypercar, which is a low powered tank, which is another option. Best thing to try is to get just a small bottle of a higher nic strength, and if its too much you can drop down. I wouldn't get a big bottle until you know its plenty. You can get a more powerful device and try 12mg freebase, but I find at a high wattage that 12mg destroys my throat. I actually use 6mg on my high powered device, and I find its fine, just might need to take some extra puffs. Overall, those are just some suggestions. Best thing to do is go to a local vape shop and ask them what they recommend. They should be able to set you up with something that works for you.

Tobacco is inherently harmful. If it weren't, smokeless tobacco products like snuff wouldn't cause cancer too. Nicotine doesn't CAUSE cancer, but it promotes the growth of tumors. Yes, even in isolation. So if you happen to get cancer cells while using nicotine, it's more likely to spread & kill you than if you weren't using it.
Now, does that mean the gov't should be allowed to tell adults what to put in their bodies? No. But the people passing vaping tobacco off as "healthy" are disingenuous.

I agree, people passing "vaping tobacco" off as healthy are disingenuous. They're disingenuous because there is no such thing as vaping tobacco. Usually there is nicotine derived from tobacco, but that's doesn't mean you're vaporizing a tobacco leaf. That being said, there are plenty of vape juices that DONT EVEN HAVE NICOTINE.
No one important says that vaping is healthy, and the truth is that it's pretty much neutral (we have pretty sufficient laboratories for this stuff).

I’m in a big tobacco producing state and many people smoke and start smoking young. I was hooked at an alarming age, 13. Im still not of legal age but I’m proud to say I’m off cigarettes. My friend bought me a SMOK just about a year ago and I still use it.

I smoked at least 2 packs a day about 14 YEARS. I've been vaping for over 7 years now, I haven't had a single drag from a cigarette since. VAPING ABSOLUTELY SAVED MY LIFE! I only wish they had come out with vaping a lot sooner. My father, who passed away recently of a fairly swift death from lung cancer at age 71, may have lived a lot longer.

I smoked for 38 years I quit in 2009 I took up vaping for a while about a year, it gives you a habit also, but nicotine free for 7 years. Thank God no damage was done.

After more than 30 years as a smoker I started to vape 2½ year ago and never missed or smoked a single cigarette since. Deducting the nicotine from 24mg came naturally, now I vape with 0mg, because it is candy without the sugar and calories :)
If you are a smoker, try it, you have nothing to loose!

Thank you for this positive addition to the Vaping community, especially coming from an outside source like this. I quit the "stinkies" about a year ago, and my employer is happier (I don't go outside to take smoke breaks and waste time), my kids are happier (they say it smells a lot better when I'm around :), and I am happier

I was a smoker for 30+ years been vaping now for over 5. quitting for me would have never happened without e-cigs. I breath easier, food tastes better, stopped coughing up lung chunks went from spending $250+ a month to around $80 and no more smoker's stink.

I believe the e-cigarette has helped me a quite a few times. I, at present, vape daily. My lungs have been checked, more than once, and they are still clear. I respect the no smoking rules in public places. I quit smoking cigarettes in 1996.

Here's a quick tip you might not otherwise see on RUclips: 20% Propelyne Glycol mixed with 80% Vegetable Glycerine (both are available quite cheaply on Amazon.) Add in a small amount of flavor (I quite enjoy cannabis terpenes, readily available cheaply on Ebay) and a bit of liquid nicotine (available at any vape shop) and a vape flavor ban becomes irrelevant. If you like to feel the slight burn in your throat like from traditional cigarettes, just add more PG to your mix. If you want a smoother draw and bigger vape clouds, lower (or remove completely) the PG from the mix. Change the ratios and flavor to your liking. Figure out what ratio and flavor you like best and you can make your own e-Juice for pennies on the dollar compared to pre-mixed solutions. Note: You can also put a small, or large, amount of mmj shatter in your juice and heat it up in the microwave. Shake it up while hot to mix and you've got the perfect concoction for getting high at work inconspicuously. At least that's what I do, except without the "add nicotine" step. However, you might want to add a flavor (not terpenes) to cover the smell. Done correctly it's undetectable to bosses and LEO alike.
