  • For the last half decade Jordan Peterson has been a controversial figure in Canada. More recently has gained fame more broadly. He is active on social media. Despite constantly being in the public eye and the many controversial opinions expressed the College of Psychologists of Ontario have treated Jordan Petersons Licence to practice psychology if he does not submit himself to social media training.
    Interestingly, the threat stems from a complaint regarding his Joe Rogan Podcast appearance earlier this year. I explore a few of the questions regarding this in this video. I do believe that they will find him in violation of their policies. That being said, there is a lot of confusion here. Is going on a Pod Cast social media? How does that differ from his opinions expressed when interviewed previously by the CBC.
    Let me be clear. I do not support, or condemn any particular policy. I do not in general support Jordan Peterson's message. The last time I discussed Jordan Peterson on this channel I condemned him, in general, I disagree with him.
    That being said, I disagree more with views being silenced. I believe that social media is not different from real life. We live part of our lives online now. That is our environment. Organizations need to understand that.
    As always, I am not interested in any policies, just simply encouraging healthy debate as that is the most important form of freedom humans can have.

      In this episode of "someone who knows jack shit about gender affirming care actually thinking that actual children are receiving irreversible life changing surgery". They do not put children on HRT, or secondary sexual characteristic surgery. They'll put them on (safe and completely reversible) puberty blockers until they're older and can decide if they want to go through with more permanent measures.

    The views expressed here are one reason the West is going to hell on a handcart. The problem of using general guidelines to levy a charge against an individual is that they are so wide-ranging that they can be made to prove almost anything. If we take the instance he specifies: 'Be respectful of other professions'. Let us take a profession, say a 'politician'. It follows that if we are not 'respectful' of politicians and their policies we can be prosecuted for it! Who in their right mind could agree to that? It places extraordinary power into the hands of these boards which can be exercised as they choose, in other words you establish a tyranny. A further reason is that these 'guidelines' have no legal basis. It is simply dependent on the opinion of those in charge. In the case of those surgeons performing 'gender affirmative surgery' the main clinic here in the UK, the Tavistock Clinic, has had to be shut down for malpractice so it seems that Dr Peterson's fears were well grounded.
    He then claims that the problem with Twitter was that the was barely any editing. This was completely untrue, the problem was that there was editing, and it was one-sided, they banned those the board disliked, and it appears at the behest of the FBI and hence the government. Allowing social media to be edited solely by those at the top is not the way to proceed. it is bound to be biased and unlike newspapers which follow a clear political line. it is done in ways which are not clear.
    The dangers of using general guidelines to prosecute individuals should be obvious to anyone who lives in a democracy. it is frightening that people do not appear to see the dangers.

    Offering subjective views on politics and sometimes presenting them as truth(perhaps unintentionally) under the guise of being a psychologist can be very harmful. Many may struggle to separate the positive of his psychology advice from his own personal ideology, especially pertaining to his ideas on politics, climate change, systemic racism etc. and may assume he MUST be right about those areas too and without question. Psychologists have a responsibility to remain objective...ALWAYS

  • @learningwithlanden
    @learningwithlanden Год назад +8

    I respect that you tried to present the issue impartially while acknowledging your biases; however, we must not overlook three major points:
    (1) Many in Canada’s government are pressuring the Board to revoke his license, making this unequivocally politically motivated due to the timing of the new push to remove his license
    (2) The UK is officially shutting down its transgender youth clinic as it was revealed that some studies’ results have been falsified to support transgender affirmative care, that the clinic was “not a safe or viable long-term option for gender-confused young people,” and that many children and parents were not being entirely told about the long-term consequences and potential risks of continuing with certain procedures. Jordan Peterson is one of the handful of people who is courageous enough to speak out against blind attempts at “progress” even when the government is against him. Will Canada and the US heed Britain’s warning, probably not anytime soon?
    (3) Think about the precedent and spillover effect such a result would birth (and not just for Canada)-medical professionals will not be able to be as transparent with their patients for fear of what vague policies they may break. For example (albeit presently extreme), if a patient sincerely comes to a psychologist believing themselves to not be human but some sort of mythological creature, where is the line drawn between respecting (or more severely, affirming) a patient’s fantasy and guiding them towards the truth that they are a human being. Any policy that heralds a vague definition of respect above honesty is bound to be problematic in many circumstances.
    -I agree that Dr. Peterson can appear brash at times, and I think reasonable people should call him out on those assertions, but to threaten to revoke a license of a man who has done more to advance the field of psychology than probably 90% of his peers also demands respect. Likely, I will not change any minds here, but let the facts speak for themselves.

    All psychologists giving public interviews, should rely on the disclaimer ... "I am not now speaking as a psychologist. I am just giving you my 'personal' opinion on these subjects." Had Jordan admitted that that was his intention, he would not be in any trouble with the board of psychologists.
    It's only natural that concerning personal systems of belief, psychologist do not agree with each other.
    Example ... which one of these two psychologists do you believe? And I suggest that you keep in mind that whichever one you choose will speak volumes about you.
    Following are Jordan’s Peterson’s extremely hurtful words (verbatim) … “Gender identity and gender expression are not valid ideas. They are not true. There is no evidence for it. I don’t know what the options are, if you don’t identify as a man or a woman. There is an idea that there’s a gender section. I think that is an ill-informed opinion. Gender identity and sexual orientation are the same thing. I don’t believe these people, these terms, stand for good things. I think these people use these terms as a pretense that they stand for good things; as a pretense for them to carry on their nefarious activities.”
    In contrast … following are the pro-transgender words of the famous psychologist Dr. Phil McGraw ... “Cleveland Clinic did a study on transgender brains, and when they did the study, they found that the brains of transgender people, their brain is actually more similar to the gender they identify with, than the gender they were assigned at birth. There is an actual brain difference. That is a neurological fact. There are fifty years of empirical evidence here. And there are distinct differences in the transgender brain versus the non-transgender brain.”

    If you do a gender surgery on a 12 year old, you are a butcher. Who in their right mind would perform that procedure on someone of that age? People are exploratory, let them figure it out and make a drastic change at a later age if they still feel the same way.

      Where I live, there's a "Children's Hospital" that employs doctors who have publicly stated that they will, and have, prescribed puberty blocking drugs and hormones treatment drugs to children as young as 9 years old based on conversations and a request from the child to begin transitioning to the other sex. And, this is being done without the knowledge and/or consent of both parents.

    • @dmob881
      @dmob881 Год назад +4

      @@rhymeswithteeth Well, my question was about *surgery* not hormone therapy. But, by it's very nature, puberty blockers are gonna be used before a child reaches the age of consent (usually 16), And ALL statements I can find speaks to parental consent as a minimum.
      The May Clinic is typical:
      'Pubertal blockers for transgender and gender-diverse youth'
      'Particularly when a child hasn't reached the age of medical consent, parents or other caretakers or guardians must consent to the treatment and support the adolescent through the treatment process.'
      I also discovered that the level of mis/dis information on this particular subject is off the scale!
      See 'USPATH and WPATH Respond to NY Times Article “They Paused Puberty, But Is There a Cost?” published on November 14, 2022'
      WPATH is The World Professional Association for Transgender Health. Every statement I have seen aligns with their published 'standards of care' document.
      Re *Criteria for puberty suppressing hormones* this says:
      'In order for adolescents to receive puberty suppressing hormones, *the following minimum criteria must be met:*
      1. The adolescent has demonstrated a long-lasting and intense pattern of gender nonconformity or gender dysphoria (whether suppressed or expressed);
      2. Gender dysphoria emerged or worsened with the onset of puberty;
      3. Any co-existing psychological, medical, or social problems that could interfere with treatment (e.g., that may compromise treatment adherence) have been addressed, such that the adolescent’s situation and functioning are stable enough to start treatment;
      *4. The adolescent has given informed consent and, particularly when the adolescent has not reached the age of medical consent, the parents or other caretakers or guardians have consented to the treatment and are involved in supporting the adolescent throughout the treatment process.*
      It seems pretty clear to me that 9 year olds are not just rockin up to their doctor - alone - and getting their mitts on puberty blockers on demand.

    • @DrLFV
      @DrLFV Год назад +6

      @@rhymeswithteeth This is not true. Please stop spreading misinformation. Parents need to consent to any treatment for minors, otherwise it would be considered assault or medical malpractice and the doctors administering the care would risk losing their license. Not to mention that any gender affirming care needs to be accompanied by a good support system, preferably by the parents, and many specialties get involved including psychiatry. A full psychiatric workup is performed before consideration of any therapy. Doctors don't just do whatever a patient asks them to do regardless of the consequences to the patient. Your comment encapsulates the issue at the heart of public discourse with respect to gender dysphoria. Those with actual knowledge have the impossible task of putting out the multiple fires being set by people like you who just want to spread misinformation. Please stop. Consult the American Academy of Pediatrics' guidelines of you want more ACTUAL information, and not just hearsay.

If you start surgery on those kids before they even finished puberty (which btw is the BEST treatment of gender dysphoria to date), you are not a profession that deserves any kind of respect. Professional Killers are a profession as well. Do they deserve respect? No. Respect is something people need to acquire, not something that they get freely.

    i'm pretty sure this psychologist wasn't taking care of the mental health of ontarians when he decided to just literally ignore the will of the actual people asking for the surgery and instead just call the surgeons butchers. Why does he think the surgeons are somehow responsible for the ultimate decision? Yes, it should be debated whether 12 year olds should remove important organs of the body, and long term repercussions of treatment should definitely be elucidated, but just hearing that one sentence is enough to tell me he doesn't give a damn about the actual patient.
    And this guy is harping about compelled speech and acting like he's some rugged professional standing in the frontlines of individual rights. But over what? Over pronouns that have literally nothing to do with the individual right of the person saying it. Nobody is telling the individual to change their own pronouns because of the lgbtq people, they're just asking them to respect the pronouns for lgbtq people. How on earth does that have anything to do with individual rights?? If anything, he's not respecting the individual right of the human beings that ask for the way they want to be called to be changed. So no, I don't think it's right for this peterson guy to act like pronouns for lgbtq has anything to do with right of the non lgbtq, and i think with your superbrain you know this well too.

    As someone specialised in psychology myself he did some unethical stuff, included related to his own field.
