Once the last titan is defeated and the thargoids retreat, they fly off giving us the middle finger (petal?) and THEY release the mycoid virus in the bubble which promptly destroys all our new SCO drives and titan trophy ship kits. Hope you kept your old FSD's.

@RicardosGaming Yeah, after Mycoid '53 devastated the Thargoids, the hivemind decided it was best if they all stopped activity galaxy-wide for a while until they could produce a reliable vaccine (with no ill side-effects, of course) that could stop the spread of the virus which allegedly came from a human lab. The humans vehemently denied that, calling the Thargoids xenophobes, and claimed it was probably a fungoid that grew on some bacteria and somehow combined in one of their nasty ammonia worlds. Meanwhile, the Thargoids all spread out from each other for their own good, something they called "social spacing." They even banned gathering in some entire sectors, presumably where their most fun places are - or homeworlds. To this day, some of those places are still blocked from entering.

From what I remember about elite lore, they adapted to mycoid virus. And will adapt to nanite torps eventually I suppose. It’s been a long war, and now 4 down quite easily, I expect something will change. ( plus F’dev put all this work into titans and accompanying materials) I don’t see them (titans) just going away.
I’d image there will be a place in the bubble where at least 1 Titan will always be present. But yes, I expect some major blow back from thargoids, and soon.

  • @Torrle

I don't know what's coming, but I do hope that there are more chapters to the Thargoid war than we can see coming. FDEV mentioned that we're in the "culmination" of the war, but does that mean that what we have is the end of it, or that all the assets are already in place? Even after all the titans are gone, humanity still has to figure out what to do about HIP 22460, so there's got to be more.

we have been told of 3 things tha could interfere with peace/genocide, a 4th can be read from the titans insignia.

Honestly, I don't really care one way or the other about the Thargoids or the war with them.
I just bought the game hours before the first titan exploded, and as a gamer I know for a fact that no matter what Frontier aren't going to let the Thardgoids get too far into the bubble before doing something either with the Thargoids themselves, or with the in-game factions. Allowing the Thargoids to "win" is the death of Elite altogether, and I don't just mean ED, but the whole franchise itself. So even if every commander were to stop fighting the Thargoids right now, and refuse to fight them anymore, then Frontier would have no choice but to stop the whole thing and suddenly make the Thargoids seek diplomatic negotiations. Either that or the factions would really have to step things up and defend the galaxy with player aid. Either way the way would have to end without our help or involvement.
I also don't care because as a new player, I know that by the time I upgrade enough to even begin to hope to fight my first Thargoid, the bulk of the war will more than likely be over. So, what's the point of stressing my head over it while I'm dodging pirates in planetary rings trying to get my mine on.
I think it's a great story, and I can see what the devs are trying to do to keep sales up and hold player interest, but I feel no need to go rushing in like a lunatic to "save humanity" when I know it will all be over by the time I get even close to ready to join the cause. I'll be luck to even get a shot at fighting the last survivors of the Thargoids by the time I get upgraded enough to survive an encounter with them.

    • @alz722
      @alz722 4 месяца назад +2

I had a similar attitude to the Thagoid war for months. I bought the game in January this year and thought that the war was so far out of my reach I'd never be good enough to get involved. I went about my business mining, and fighting pirates until I bought the Odyssey expansion to do some lucrative exobiology. Started making hundreds of millions doing long distance exploration with exobiology.
Then on a trip back to the bubble, my ship was violently torn out of hyperspace! I didn't know that was even possible! I heard weird groaning noises as my ship spun into real space, and there was something on the radar I'd never seen before. Then two of them! I took fire and my shields broke in a second. More groaning noises as the things on the radar quickly gained on my ship despite constant boosting and all power to engines! I started to panic as my hull melted away, and my ship was completely disabled.
Something enormous, barely visible but terrifying, drifted into view, groaning loudly. I managed to snap a screenshot before my ship was effortlessly destroyed. A Thargoid interceptor! I lost 300 million in data, I was furious. I felt so helpless, how could I possibly defend myself against something so powerful?
I tried to be more careful, to plot courses that didn't involve thargoid controlled systems, but I was still destroyed like this three more times. Enough was enough. I heard that some CMDRs were able to fight and even kill these monsters. I wanted to learn how. I wanted to fight back. I wanted revenge!
I found CMDR Mechan on youtube and through his videos, the Anti-Xeno Initiative website and Discord server. I learned the basics of taking the fight to the enemy with the help of the amazing CMDRs in the AXI discord and others like Ricardos Gaming on youtube.
I fought back. Raided Thargoid planetary spire sites. Killed hundreds of interceptors with the AXI, and with Ricardo a couple of times. I dove into the maelstroms, saw the Thargoid motherships first hand and contributed to the destruction of 2 of them! Made over 100 billion in credits and some new friends along the way.
It's been many orders of magnitude more rewarding than mining some space rocks and popping some pirates.
You don't need a formidable combat rank nor a top of the range engineered ship to get involved. A chieftain is more than capable of fighting some goids, with all the modules you'll need available for some credits at the Rescue Megaships in the bubble. They are the blue and green cross icons in the galaxy map.
For years, the Thargoids have invaded Human space and slaughtered millions of us at will, but now we are fighting back, now we are winning. The NPC factions do get involved, but their impact is less than negligible. All the war progress has been achieved buy actual people joining the fight.
"They are coming for you CMDR, but WE are coming for them! Glory to Mankind!" - CMDR Mechan.

and btw that history is backwards, we the scourge, humans, invaded thargoid gardens and stole from thargoids Long before they even gave us a thought of being more than termites.
      same for the guardians.
Thargoids were here before any other life existed in 'our' bubble in Thargoid space . pretty sure the relic on mars is thargoid sensor, that is a very very old discovery and 1 of many reasons why no politicians are telling the universe WE STARTED IT!!

As it sits, I have a Cobra mk3, a type-6, and a type-7. we've completely depleted the demand for tritium in our private group session and may soon be hauling other good to and fro.

The lore is not super buried in this game but I don't why fdev doesn't make a lot of this stuff easier to find out and discover. I played a couple hundred hours before I even found out there was actual story/lore in the game that had any depth to it. I blame on also not ever playing a previous Elite game before. An Fdev guided tour (like when you rent headphones at a museum) would be pretty cool and easy to do since it's already in the game more or less.

I get all that but it's pretty easy to ignore it even unintentionally as I basically did. Some or a large part is due to the sandbox nature of the game. Some of it due to the amount of lore/story that's buried in lots of text or other submenus like powerplay overview. Or random occurances like the audio logs at the jameson crash site. I don't think fdev has ever done a very good job (in my opinion after 1k+ hours) about showing or involving the player with the history/lore of the game. I'm all speculation with this but still I believe it's worth a think.
