Fun fact: the original idea for the MH reboot movie when Universal was going to do it was that Jackson Jekyll was going to be the main character and honestly I think that fits the character treats they gave to Clawdeen way more. A fish out of water in both monster and human worlds, a loner with anxiety, technically half human half monster, a huge nerd.
Hell, having Jackson/Holt as the main character/s would’ve been great representation for people with DID like Marvel’s Moonknight did!

Also, Clawdeen had another older sister who was also cut for G3. Claudia Wolf. She was a girl who graduated from Monster High and was a successful writer.

I kind of like Deuce’s new lineage though. Him having lesbian parents now is really special to me as a lesbian woman. I know it’s silly, but I was really happy, and thought that Medusa having a wife was really cool since her original mythology is based on protecting women after her own assault.

The tag line is actually "be yourself, be unique, be a monster" and that was also the tag line later on in G1. Also Frankie isn't green anymore bc the og Frankenstein look is owned by universal and gen 3 is partnering with Nickelodeon. And Mattel only has a partnership with them still for G1 to still do the collector dolls. That's also why they no longer have bolts in their neck. But I do agree that Frankie should've been the main character. This generation is just too colorful and kid friendly. It lost it's edge and gothic inspired fashion. The demographic for this should be for tweens and teens but apparently it's for the youngster's.
I think it was always little kids who were in to it, anyway.
A lot of teenagers are monster nerds, but they’re more into monster-based novels, not really monster high dolls.
I’d argue that if Clawd and Draculara stayed together and Cleo and Duce stayed together, Clawdeen could have been with Torali (or even Frankie) or heck she even coulda stayed single for the acearo community. Also YES! THIS is Clawdeen! I really don’t like what they did with her personality. If they didn’t change her persona, her clothes wouldn’t have bothered me as much but they DOUBLED down on the nerdy aspect when Frankie/Ghoulia fits the bill perfectly.

People loved the original Clawdeen because she of her strength and confidence, but she could also be vulnerable and caring with her friends. She was such a dynamic character! New Clawdeen... I've said before that she looks like she was put together by someone's grandmother that thought the original was too aggressive. Totally love your redesign, it looks cute and sassy!

If the whole thing of making her Latina was a representation issue, they could have kept Lagoona Australian but made her Aboriginal instead. That would require more research, yes, but it would be REALLY interesting and shed some light on an underrepresented portion of the Australian population.

Honestly, I wished the plot was everyone knowing that Clawdeen was half-human and she ends up getting heavily bullied for it because people don’t see her as a ‘real’ monster and she feels she has to prove to everyone she is. However with the help of her Draculaura and Frankie who are both mostly human due to Frankie being made of human parts and Draculaura being born human, that she doesn’t have to choose one world or another because they’re both a part of her.
As for her siblings like Claude, I’d make them half-siblings where Claude is full werewolf and resents Clawdeen because he sees her as the reason their mother abandoned him and his father and would rather have nothing to do with her. However, he starts to let this hate go as he gets to know her and even ends up defending her before the school.
I love this idea especially bringing up Frankie’s and Draculaura’s human sides and Clawdeen’s siblings being half siblings

Also, I wanted the idea of her siblings being half add to the drama of how hard it can be to accept a half-sibling.

I did hear that the reason Frankie is no longer green, nor has the neck bolts is because certain aspects of a Frankenstein monster design are trade marked or something by universal, and since Mattel is no longer working with them, they have to follow the rules. There was no reason for them to change Lagoona or Clawdeen though
On what you said about them trying to be relatable, one thing I often think of when it comes to writing is that *anyone can be relatable* . Not all kids can relate to being little geek kids who are shy. Not all kids can relate to being optimistic. Not all kids can relate to being loners (I mean, the supporting characters in all those school dramas are ultimately individuals with their own stories that the main narrative doesn't take interest in). Maybe they could have made Clawdeen relatable by delving deeper into what already ticked her as a character, and how she struggles as a result of that.
For instance, let's say there's a character who would be considered eccentric in our world and in their universe. We may not do what that character does. However, let's look into the motives and why they decide to do that. For instance, they want to assert themselves as someone who is different and cope with the perceived lack of identity by doing weird stuff. They do so, but they get lonely in the process. This! This is what people will relate to. Relatability is not a composed of a single formula.

The formula they use of this pick me tomboy girl is a really outdated one too-as many women have criticized how toxic and sexist it is as all it does is just pin women againest eachother-not to mention like?? Not every girl is a tomboy?? Why cant clawdeen stay a very high fem girl who loves fashion? Sure she’d sometimes delve into more “traditionally masculine” aspects(wearing a suit, being very sporty) but overall she was very feminine
Which made her stand out alot too cause i noticed alot of Black women in media are often depicated as masculine/tomboys compared to their white coubterpart-i liked how clawdeen was allowed to be very high fem like draclaura
If they wanted a tomboy they could have used someone like lagoona instead, or even venus as shes meant to be punk and punk fashion is often very masculine leaning it would be cool to see venus dress in more accraute attire punks irl would wear

Everyone is lamenting how she became a nerd, but there are nerds on the masculine side and feminine side and they specifically made her more masculine when she became the main character. I wouldn't really call her a pick me though since while she does have a rivalry with the more girly Cleo she's besties with the also girly Draculara. Though because the movie is only a movie we don't get any fleshed out relationship. Either way they ruined her character.

Again it just reinforces this weird “Black women are masculine” trope
I remember taking a fashion course and one of the things they said not to do was have two different patterns that are the same size. The reboot clearly doesn’t follow this rule leading to the busy feeling. Having two large patterns right next to each other will make it busy and same goes for two small patterns. To find a balance that still used plenty of patterns, we were told to have the patterns be different sizes. One large to catch your eye and one small to keep your eye.
What’s concerning is how basic this trick is in fashion. Their costume designer should know about this rule, but either ignored it to make her more quirky or ignored all their teachers advice.
the best part about this redesign was keeping her ethnic features and acknowledging that she is supposed to be a black woman. that was the most irritating part of g3, where they took a bunch of representation from established characters and made them more stereotypical or changed it entirely, therefore removing representation from other communities. its even more irritating because a lot of people don’t acknowledge their original ethnicities unless its blatantly said, so nobody sees that loss. amazing work!
Honestly hated how clawdeen and drsclaura were the only two that had a major change to their enthicities, like mattel claim they really wanted to represent how many people are mixed yet majority of the white characters stayed white-meanwhile clawdeen , the brown/darkskinned monoracial Black girl, was changed to be biracial instead like why couldnt ghoulia be mixed too ? Same with frankie , deuce and toralei? All of them stayed monoracial white
Like yes draclaura changed but that wasnt any better cause they straight out took away her accent and her being an adoptee with one parent😭 she can be both Asian and romanian yet they took away any Romanian aspects from her instead of improving on it even her dad dracula had his accent taken away even tho be straight out lives in romania
the only two with an accent now are lagoona and toralei, a villain and a bloodthristy girl, really not a good look
Would love your take on the whole Lagoona Not-Blue situation, Lagoona was one of my faves back in the day and honestly it feels like they made up a whole new character and slapped Lagoona’s name on her to be lazy
Clawdeen was my most favorite character then all the monsters characters, because of her confidence and sass, I honestly wanted to be like her.
I even wanted to be her for Halloween and my mom drive all night to get that costume. Unfortunately there were none my size and ended up being the zombie girl from the show. I didn’t hate her, she was just underrated to me.
Edit: when you mention that now a days people want to be related. I don’t want that, Clawdeen was the character that inspired you to be confident, kind of sad that reboot shows/characters are completely changing in order pleasing very young audiences(especially their parents) instead.

Other artists have done their redesigns of Clawdeen but I think this one is top tier, this is everything I want in a Clawdeen design! It’s fashion-forward, mature enough to read as older sister you look up to, and could translate well into a doll outfit!

I always thought that Clawdeen was a fan of big cats which is why she wears tiger stripes and leopard spots and has a pet cat.
I interupted her very big cat theme was just apart of the fashion-since her fashion is based on punk and y2k and y2k fashion has alot of big cat prints

(I know nothing about monster high, this is based purely on the video) I feel like it would make sense if Frankie was the main character navigating the world, and Clawdeen is the cool extroverted popular kid who adopts them as a younger sibling and kinda guides them through the story

I want to let you know that Clawd and Howleen exist in the new MH cartoon. They were leaked online and Clawd is confirmed to be Clawdeen’s brother.

I tend to be one of those people who prefer tomboyish werewolves (cliché I know) so G3's Clawdeen's appearance doesn't bother me too much. However I do really like what you did with her here and I envy your skills in digital design because AH I'm still trying to figure it out lol. Also it makes sense why keeping her as a sassy, bold older sister figure makes more sense than the insecure school girl in the new generation since we already have Frankie to fill in that role. Personally I'd like to see what you do with Draculura because for as chill as I am with a lot of things I will forever be eternally confused as to how a vampire witch was even a remotely good idea to the creators XD.
I have to agree wholeheartedly with you're confusion on why they may Draculaura a witch and why they made her personality do a 180 if they wanted to have a witch there are Canon witch characters they could have made Spelldon more important and then actually utilize him when Valentine shows up also hearing they were going to make her a witch reminded me of that one flashback of her in the mock witch trial
I also like tomboyish werewolves but what I on't like is that they took away all the fierce elements to her character and design. Like if she isn't wearing a skirt or femme stuff that's wonderful but I just really wanted her to still look edgy
@@andynonymous6769 Yeah that's fair and I can get behind that. I never became a super fan or anything of monster high. I just watched some of those CGI movies that were up on Netflix so maybe that's why I don't feel as strongly about all the changes as others do. I will say the creators kinda shot themselves in the foot with this reboot when they used old, well used names with new personalities. Honestly all they had to do was either A). Stick with their old characterization with maybe a twist or two so it feels fresh or B). Just give the characters new names along with the personalities as well as think about it for more than two seconds since they are now building up completely new characters lol.
With the movie, my thoughts on her design was that there was too much pattern, too much purple, and everything just seemed heavy. But I really like what you did with this redesign, Clawdeen really is the cool older sister type, not all teenage girls are super insecure/awkward, some have a lot of confidence. Also, thanks to this video, I now headcanon Clawdeen as a bi aroace (why bi? idk, she gives off the vibes, maybe because of all the purple).
Yeah i agree, I love seeing teenage girls who are confident and fierce. Sure there’s some awkwardness but to just make her your stereotypical “I’m so awkward and sheepish and afraid of the mean girl uwu!”
(Clawdeen had more than two siblings. She had 6: Clawd, Clawnor, Howlmilton and the triplets Howlden, Howleen and Howlston. According to an official Monster High book I have)
Howleen fits Clawdeen's new character better too. If they wanted it to have a werewolf as a main character, then Howleen is the more suitable character in my opinion. The movie could have been about Howleen getting out of her sister's shadow which fits which the whole 'Be Yourself' and 'Embrace your flaws' message. I'm just sad they cut them out :(. And that they made Lagoona Cleo's sidekick and Deuce a generic love interest
i wish they kept her as just a normal werewolf, i also wish she kept being a fashion expert. but i do like her having glasses, just which she had better frames, i also think in the new show she's pretty okay compared to the new movie, the movie in general is pretty bad compared to the new show. (there's a lot more i don't like but you basically mentioned them all lol)
Oh my gosh, thank you! I agree, not enough ppl are talking about the writing aspect of the movie, and how Clawdeen was basically another Frankie. The movie ended up loosing a great strong role model while also creating problems that weren't even problems before.
Thank you SO MUCH for giving my beautiful queen her style and fierceness back! This is the Clawdeen that inspired me so much growing up, and seeing the life breathed back into her only makes me love and respect you as an artist even more than I once did ^^
Also, random tangent, but I feel like it's your versions of Clawdeen and Alya met, they could be good friends. Or maybe I'm thinking of my own version of Alya because I imagine her to be really into fashion and pull design inspiration from the bright colors and patterns of Mantrinique (seeing as she's half Mantriniquan Creole). But either way, Alya and Clawdeen's energies in general would match each other really well. ^^

They even knew that like 95% of the fandom agrees with that headcannon too! Also, btw, have you never interacted with fandom?! People are allowed to feel as if they were robbed of a good storyline and character, even if the character in their head is different from the canon, or hasn't been confirmed to be cannon!

It was never stated that Clawdeen was actually a lesbian or aroace in G1. Sure, the original creator of G1 supports the headcanon of her being a lesbian, but he was just supporting the headcanon, not really saying that it's canon. Plus, can't Clawdeen be bisexual? It would still be representation for the LGBTQIA+ community

I feel like you should do Frankie next. They have probably the best design of G3 and I'm interested in seeing what you can do with them (I really hope you keep the leg prosthetic tho I think that was such a cute touch).
One thing I see a lot of people say is that they don’t like that clawdeen has glasses because it makes her look like a “nerd” which feels extremely ableist to me tbh. I thought we were over that stereotype but I guess not. But even as someone who loves thick glasses on myself I definitely agree they should’ve given her different ones.

14:54 frankie had to change colors because of copyright issues, actually. frankenstien’s monster was never green, it was something created by a company for their interpretation of him and then it became a cultural thing, similar to how the little mermaid was never a red head named ariel and it was just something disney made, yet it’s become a cultural mainstay

I agree with so many parts of this especially when you go into detail about who Clawdeen originally was and I also that not only in the original episodes but also down the line in the first 3D animated movies as well for Gen 1, Clawdeen was a girl who loved and stood up for her family and was kind of grew up (In my opinion) to be self-reliant at times when it came to stuff like dating or family matters, Clawdeen in those episodes and movies made it known that she didn't need a love interest, she made it clear she was happy being single and having the opportunity to explore her options as an artist and fashion designer. Seeing the new live-action movie and the newest episodes of Monster high are sadly kind of cringe in my opinion, Frankie was the sort of MC trying figuring who they were and what they wanted to do and explore, not only in themselves as a person but also in their powers/abilities and even their family throughout many of the 3D animated movies, having Clawdeen go through this reboot, not knowing who she is as a monster in a monster community and constantly questioning her monster heritage is honestly a bad turn, her original concept and design knew who she was, she was a werewolf with siblings and was pretty self-reliant, she didn't need to be in a relationship because she was happy being on her own.
OMG Clawdeen looks amazing! You did her so much justice! I'd love it if you do either Cleo or Frankie next. And yes to the grunge fashion please

Monster High was really important for me as I was growing up.
My dad had a CD player in his car, and we always watched it on the way to his house (my parents were separated on the time). I remember being excited at new movies, and buying the CDs at a store that is now closed.
So when I heard that they would remake monster high, I was excited, since generation 2 was so horrible.
But then it came all of this, changes. The lazy tokenist "representation", the bad designs, the writing, erasure of previous characters, lack of respect for the source material and finally, and more importantly, Headless Headmistress Bloodgood being a fucking racist.
And the fandom is really disappointing me right now. Bashing people who have negative opinions about the reboot and refusing to understand why people think that the changes for "representation" are lazy and bad.
I would love a new non binary character, a new latino or asian character, a new disabled character instead of the lazy changes they did (just to make it clear, I don't hate the changes, just the tokenist nature behind them).
And I don't care if the generation is supposed to be "For kids" or "Not made for you", I'm still 15, therefore a kid and even if I wasn't, I would still be resonant on calling out this bullshit. They should still be respectful to the original fans who supported the franchise and made the reboot possible in the first place.
Sorry for the rambling, I have to much deep feelings about this reboot.

I loved Monster High as a kid. I thought the designs were so cool and fun, which was an achievement because I did not like dolls or fashion-based anything as a kid. And it was the old dolls I loved because the designs were so unique. Cleo was always my favorite, but Clawdeen was a very close second.
The movie and show might be a design horror show (and NOT in a good way) but you have done justice to our favorite strong independent woman!!! She looks so incredible and fierce and I can now rest at ease. Well done!

I've been in love with Monster High since its start, like watching the webshorts. Monster high is just so popular everyone wants it, and everyone thats ever been in charge of monster high tries to change it. It was originally about Frankie, then it was about dracula, and now its clawdeen. I think they just chose the character that's most popular and make them the MC.
Also it is implied in Clawdeens notebooks and writing in the boxes and webseries that she had a crush on a girl, presumed dracula.
No one ever will get the monster freaky fashion right again since Gen1 thats just my personal opinion tho
The new Clawdeen doll's face and hair remind me of a deer, which would be considered soft and cute as opposed to a wolf.

And thank God you chose to put the paw prints inside the sweater; it makes the design less overwhelming, especially when there's already paw prints on the see through shirt. You have officiallly cured Clawdeen's design-related exsistial crisis happening on 26:19. The expression on the redesign says so. I thought the drawing of Clawdeen having a design epiphany was good too. I also thought that that drawing was the redesign.

Feel you on enjoying MH from afar, was so expensive here when it 1st came out. After years when MH died down I got my 1st clawdeen, Operetta and jenifire from a cheap toy lot. Love your take on Clawdeen, such a breath of fresh air to see her being CLAWDEEN, g3 sttipped her of one of her personality traits and that being a fashionista, really don't mind her wolf aspects being enhanced ^^. Also Laura being a witch and it being "illegal" (ಠ_ಠ) RIP Casta Fierce.

Yeah um, Clawdeen isn’t an only child in G3. It was confirmed that Clawd is her brother and showing up in an upcoming episode like a week ago.
G1 Monster High was a special part of my childhood and it remains near and dear to my heart. It helped me find confidence in myself and my own sense of style/creativity. As it stands I don't hate G3, I'm just disappointed by it and the lack of passion or potential on the part of the creators. But seeing redesigns and hearing rewrites makes me feel a little better and imagine what could've been.
Personally for a rewrite of Frankie, I like to imagine that instead of being into science they create mixed media and performance art projects as a way of self expression, cause sometimes art is the best way to get out what words cannot.
The fact that u mentioned the aroace community for clawdeen makes me so happy ily 😭

I'm saying this. I hate the new Clawdeen. Clawdeen was the girl I wanted to be, she was deep, fierce and bold but she was caring to her friends and family loved her. The independence you talked about was so important to me because I think I'm Ace so she was literally the perfect girl for me to relate to as she was literally the lone wolf that wasn't so alone. She was really important to kid me and I bet I'm not alone in this so it's just said to see.

listening to you now... yeah, you're right. picking clawdeen was a risky choice, but i think in the show they are doing something interesting in introducing the mystery of her mother being missing and not dead like in the movie.
she's the curious one of the bunch, which i agree should be a frenkie trait, but i'm curious what they're going to introduce in the reboot about her family.
but all in all, you're right, Clawdeen was an odd choice to be the lead. but until now, I don't know the reason for this choice so I can't judge anything.
Something to note before you do Frankie Stein is that due too Universal not working on this new reboot they now have to follow the guidelines of what they can and cannot use for her.
1. Her skin can’t be green
2. She can’t have neck bolts
3. Her highlights can’t be lightning bolt shaped

I just loved the original clawdeen so much. She was bold yet sensitive could game with the boys but maintained so much of her femininity though her fashion and her style and her sassiness etc. Also it's a personal gripe but I really liked that she was just black. It's not something afforded to black girls growing up and it was one of the reasons I really loved her and while I love that there's a mixed character I just wish it wasn't her and she stayed full black but whatever.
Jackson would've been such a good choice for a main as well because he's a male which often isn't a perspective that we get from monster high or doll lines in general they're reserved to side or background characters it would've been neat and broadened the audience a bit. You made a good point about there being two Judy's because that's exactly what it feels like. It's like freaky fusion but with character personality. Frankie is now a ghoulia Frankie mix and clawdeen is now a Claudia clawdeen mix and they pretty much deleted her successful girlboss older sister who I really loved. Essentially they could've gone a completely different direction with her not to mention that they took away the fact that she was career driven knew what she wanted and was such a headstrong character that was driven and dedicated also lesbian!!! While I love the rep often black women don't get love interest so I can take it or leave it that she would have the aro/ace hc but a femme black lesbian! It really sucks that her siblings were cut too. Don't even get me started on the clawdeen and deuce pairing. That felt very intentional but like a comment said before her and torali could have been extremely interesting as a cat and dog situation. They could've given howleen the clawdeen role it would've fit the best because she already has so many properties of what they're trying to make her older sister. If they wanted half human they could've gone with deuce, Jackson, Cleo, robecca, etc. All of the characters mentioned don't have as much screen time and less of a cultivated story. They destroyed clawdeen by destroying her well established character story is all and that's just sad. Youve got so many along points and you gave her her flair back hell yeah. Sorry this is a essay you made some really interesting points that I kinda wanted about.
Mmk you mentioned the doll difference and I thought it was just my eyes but there's also a skin shade difference. She's not lighter but her shade of brown fits so different with her purple now and it's just interesting
Calamara don't forget that Claudine also had an eldest sister named Claudia they basically took Claudia's design and personality and gave it to CLAWDEEN. Originally I was very open to to Monster high's reboot but you make a lot of good points there is a lot of things I disagree with the reboot but the c Monster High on store shelves and seeing the dolls again was an amazing experience that brought back so much happiness from my childhood I myself also came from a poor family and I wasn't able to get a lot of the dolls I only have three of them that were able to get on a sale I had no idea it was so much of Clawdeena identity was taken from her, and the other ghouls that broke my heart..🥺
Cleo and Duce had a whole sub-plot in Boo York about breaking up cuz of Cleo’s family and when they re-boot it THEY CHANGE THAT? Like please just keep the original 😭

ive been around for a while now, and i just love to see your art improve. you are a huge artistic inspiration for me, and it makes me very happy. plus, i always learn something new when you throw in the little tips like the holo effect, or seeing you draw the fur and different hair textures! one of the very few speedpainters i can actually watch with my little attention span. your soothing voice helps it :)

this is a little detail, but i really ADORE the paw-print design.
it helps highlight how, despite her cool attitude and more mature fashion sensibilities (ie, being fashionable AT ALL, mall goths are famously bad at fashion) and the overall "big sister" vibes, Clawdeen IS still a teenager too! so she'll go for a print-design that might be considered childish, because heck, she kinda IS a kid. :)

and about clawdeen's siblings, clawd will appear in one of the next episodes, and hawleen already appeared. one theory is that they don't know they're related, they weren't erased from the show, just from the movie.
Clawdeen looks awesome! The outfit suits her very well and it shows how confident she is! The gold matches her eyes and it all comes together very nicely. I also liked how you talked about your shading techniques and how you did her hair texture. I’m still learning and improving my drawing skills, so it’s helpful to hear you talk about it.
I just think it's so unnecessary that they rewrote everything when the franchise was already so character focused and had so much to work with, no changes needed. Making some changes like Frankie being non-binary is nothing like the literal character assassination Clawdeen got. Also Frankie being enby is great because is continues to embody the core theme if embrace yourself even if it's not seen as normal.
There was so much already written for these characters even if they did a reset they have places to go and just didn't do it.
To me it feels weird that they made Frankie non-binary because of the arguments people have made as to why it makes sense, such as saying that "since they are made of many people it would make sense for them to not identify with male or female" but for me that's the very reason why it's weird. It kind of goes with making aliens non-binary. But the fact that they still dress more "feminine" while being non-binary is nice since you usually don't see that
I really enjoyed the video, not only because of Clawdeen's redesign but also because of the new art techniques and tips I've now learnt from you! It was really interesting seeing how you drew the hair and built up textures and it makes me want to try some of these techniques with my own art :)

The reason why they made frankie blue is because universal studios holds the copyright to frankensteins skin color as green, so if anyone makes a frankestein based character, it cannot be green. In g1, however, universal studios were partners with mattel, thats why they were able to make frankie green
I love your redesign and story for her! My favorite character was always her and the new generation honestly butchered her!😩 They could have made use of using their changes to make a Sister or cousin for Clawdeen instead of rewriting her whole character!
Anyway I was wondering If you saw the newly releases Miraculous episode with Felix in It. Honestly the best episode so far but knowing what the episodes were like so far It might not be much. I was delighted to know he was more an anti-hero than straight up Evil!🤗 I was certain they'd turn him Evil so It was a pleasant suprise to see that not being the case.
His transformation design was...not that bad considering what kind of designs we kept getting but it honestly could have been and should have been better. When I first saw the design I thought he was an alien from Power Rangers.😅😥😩
So I was wondering If you could make a redesign of Felix with the Peacock transformation ! I hoped and expected more like a suite that is dark blue with slighty purple accents and green like an ACTUAL Peacock not Purple green like an alien. His behaviour while transformed made people think he is acting weird but LB and CN also act different when transformed more like their Kwimis so Felix acted more like his Kwami emotional and dramatic. The part when he sang caught me off gaurd but I did like It.(Disney and musical fan😅)
So If you have time would you consider It?
Honestly I am someone who is apart of the LGBTQ+ community and on the asexual Spectrum. I felt like they took away that part of Clawdeen that she wasn’t interested in dating at all and that she didn’t need a partner to complete her. I am aware that none of this was actually confirmed only based on interpretations of her character, but it would be amazing if Clawdeen was asexual in canon.
Fun fact: The reason for Frankie is blue because of copyright that's also why they can't have lighting highlights in their hair

You did Clawdeen a justice.What I hate the most is when people say " this is for new audience". That is really stupid excuse. I also don't like that creators didn't used old artstyle. If they put effort in artstyle you cold have various body types in Monster High.
I was originally really upset about everything around this reboot but I've sense mellowed out realized that being mad isn't going to change anything and excepted that these aren't the characters I'm familiar with. I've sense learned to appreciate them for what they are desperate some of the major flaws I have. I'm fine with Franky being blue Spence they couldn't legally be green from what I've heard, but clawd and the family being erased, Jackson and holt being erased, and deus and Cleo being broken up are things I will never forgive. Also removing Australian representation, making ghoulia talk, and making draculaura love mda rude are things that at the very least will take a while to get used to.
I'm mostly avoiding talking about Clawdeen because she was my favorite character and watching gen 3 I just had to think about it like the rebook version is a completely different person. Like the new one might be a cousin to the original (that way her siblings and parents aren't completely erased and her personality and style can stay intact)
So about G3 Clawdeen's glasses. I have her doll and she has tufts of fur molded onto the sides of her head meant to hold the glasses in place. They're not super effective but I appreciate the effort. And it's not like G3 Clawdeen was the only werewolf doll that featured glasses. G1 Clawdeen had sunglasses in her gloom beach, make a splash, and boo york dolls. Howleen's geek shriek doll included glasses, as well as both of Clawdia's dolls and Clawd's Sweet 1600 doll. I just find it an interesting thing people are complaining about only now in G3. Not to say it isn't a valid criticism, I just find it interesting.

So, I'm watching another RUclipsr called Loves Art23 and she's also doing redesigns of Ladybug and Monster High. This one actually struck an interesting chord cause where you were more mindful of making Clawdeen still feel like a minor, Loves Art actually used the more mature body type cause it made sense as some girls do develop early(using herself as an example).
This was interesting to me cause you two have takes that are quite nuanced when evaluating the bigger picture. Like two different but equal and equally valid views on the themes and stuff like that, and it's one of the things I utterly adore as a mediocre artist. It feels as though even in similar mediums and media properties, it's easy to make unique styles and executions. It's inspiring to say the least

it's been a while since the reboot came out and, frankly, it might have been better for them to do entirely new characters. most of them are wildly different from how they were in gen 1 both design-wise and personality-wise. i do like that they're adding more representation in terms of body types and disability and sexuality and neurodivergency. it's just hard to reconcile characters that i grew up loving having new looks and personalities. it would have been cool if they gave all/most of the main characters younger siblings (ik some of them already had, im just trying to preserve the classic "x, child of y" design type from the 1st gen without them having to be kids of the main characters and possibly having "freaky fusion" type designs). this way we could still have the different designs without changing the main characters' characters. the original cast could have also come back to cameo and they could redesign them in the new style, new outfits, etc.
They did my favorite characters the dirtiest 😖😩 (Jugified Deuce, made Cleo basic, retconned my boys Jackson and Holt, euthanized Clawdeen's siblings, Heath [I can't even look at him], they seemed to have ungirlboss Abbey, MADE TORALEI A PRIVILEGED RICH GIRL!, I miss Australian Lagoona (they could've just been cousins à la crappy Winx reboot), Ghoulia.... *shudder*

I agreed with every single thing spoken on this video except clawdeen being paired up with duce. If this were the cartoon version I could actually see that happening, clawdeen in the show has a very bold confident personality, but shes also very kind and selfless, duce was stuck basically being cleos servant in the cartoon to a degree, so I could see clawdeens more wild side and duces more calm side being a great compliment, however in the reboot I think I was just so disappointed in clawdeen being such a changed revisioned character along with the story itself falling short that it just felt forced. I could see it happening in the cartoon that we all grew up watching. Duce and cleo broke up, clawdeen gave him advice, they became good friends, and ended up together, I genuinely could see them being a good couple, I just can't see it... or I don't like seeing it in the live action reboot. That wasn't clawdeen, it was an entirely different character that was a wannabe Frankie.
When you make another redesign could you redesign Lagoona?(idk if thats how her name is spelled..) Also, i really like your drawings! I started watching your content when you started doing Yandere simulator redesigns and i see a lot of improvement! Honestly you are so cool and amazing!
