I'm optimistic the Bills will be better this year without Allen feeling pressured to force it to Diggs. Play situational football, take what the defense gives you and Go Bills!!!

I think Keon will get a good number of the screens Diggs got last year as well as some quick hitch routes just to get the ball in his hands and let him be elusive. I think he's going to be around 50-60 targets as well. They built a WR room that doesn't require Coleman to be a big contributor this year.

Nope. Keon is going to be just like NKEAL Harry. A bust. They are like twins....just move him to TE. Can't separate, you can't play receiver in the NFL. It's that simple

@@TheOne-pq3gs I won't say bust for a 2nd rounder, but I'd agree that Keon will struggle to get any targets at all this rookie season.
Cook, Shakir, Kincaid are studs on fast rising trajectories. Curtis Samuel is explosive, fully healthy, only 27, has been a good producer on garbage offenses, is primed for a bounce back. MVS is a decent deep route specialist. Dawson Knox is a good TE#2. The Bills drafted an absolute bruiser RB. Factor in JA17's keepers. What's even left for Keon?
Also, being a 2nd round pick relieves the pressure on the coach and OC to feed him. He's a developmental project who may or might not break out.

I personally believe that the offensive targets will be spread around, much like the Saints did during Drew Brees prime. Since Joe Brady is an off shoot of the S. Payton coaching tree the target share was unpredictable game to game. The only viable week to week starters in fantasy football was obviously Drew Brees, then J. Graham, Colston, Sproles and Ingram. The other targets were divided up out of who ever had the hot hand in a particular game,, probably match up based. So moving forward to the Bills, I feel that Shakir, and Kincaid will lead the team in targets both slightly over 100, then the combination of Cooks and Davis around 65, then the remaining will be based on match ups per game.

  • @rafaelrondon1813

I made my own estimates before watching and had surprisingly similar results. I def think Coleman gets more than 55 targets though:
    Kincaid: 115 (vs 120)
    Knox: 45 (same)
    Shakir: 90 (same)
    Coleman: 70 (vs 55)
    Samuel: 70 (vs 80)
    Hollins & Valdes-Scantling share 70 (vs sharing 65)
    Cook: 60 (vs 65)
    Johnson & Davis share 40 (vs 33)
I also think we will see 10-80 targets between Justin Shorter and Chase Claypoole. Unless they can’t hack it in practice, they’ll be given a chance to compete.
Any of the other 5 WRs could also break out and take a share of targets.

Joe, as usual, your podcast is once again thought-provoking.
I'm a daily viewer, and would be lost, were it not for your in depth analytics and outside of the box thinking.
With all that being said, I have to disagree with your estimation of targets regarding Kincaid and Knox.
Its all but obvious that Kincaid had a stellar, record setting rookie season last year. Its easy to see how you came up with 120 targets projected for Kincaid next season. Kincaid is clearly now TE1 with Knox taking the backseat. But i say, NOT SO FAST!!!!
We have to consider a few factors that led to Kincaid's remarkable rookie season. These are simply the facts. Bills opponents last season were expecting Dawson Knox to be targeted regularly throughout the game and NOT Kincaid. If you look at his stats, a majority of his success came early on in the season. There were plays when the bills ran 12 personell and Knox would draw most of the coverage and Kincaid was allowed to run free. Teams were expecting a highly productive PRO BOWL Dawson Knox to make the big plays he had been making in seasons past.
I love Kincaid and I DO believe he has the potential to become another Travis Kelsey. But that shouldn't negate how incredibly good Dawson Knox has been amd still very much is.
Every team the Bills face in the upcoming season with almost certainly double team Kincaid to prevent him from doing the damage he did last year. This will obviously open things up for Knox. With Knox playing at full health (no broken hand) and teams forcing you to beat them without Kincaid, look for Knox to return to form and maybe even challenge Kincaid for the most receptions and TDs. I know this probably sounds insane to you, but I think Kincaid gets about 80 to 90 targets and knox gets 60 to 80 targets.
I'm tired of hearing everybody basically closing the book on Knox because of Kincaids rookie success. There are still chapters to be written in the Dawson Knox/ Buffalo Bills love story.

I guess I'm the outlier. I think Keon will struggle to get targets this year.
Shakir, Kincaid, and Cook are studs, all finished the year trending upward, steeply. Curtis Samuel is only 27, blazing fast, and fully healthy. He's been a solid producer despite playing in garbage QB/OC/HC situations. How will he fit in to an elite offense? I see breakout. That leaves Keon to compete with MVS for 5th option, which I see Keon winning out by late season.

This exercise is a total crapshoot so I appreciate the thought process and projections. So much has been said about YAC over the years. Shakir, Cook, Samuel and Davis are the guys I look for the Bills/Brady to scheme effectively for YAC. As such, I see Cook getting less than your projection and Davis more than your projection. Kincaid is the guy who gets the most targets and Shakir/Samuel a close second/ third. Coleman is a massive wildcard and fans how think this guy is ready to take a lion's share of targets is going to be disappointed. Coleman needs time to figure out the offense and time for Josh Allen to trust he will be where he wants at the time he expects him to be there.

I think that for this particular kind of offense and the way that it’s being built, it’s going to be a hot hand approach. Meaning it’s impossible to really calculate anybody’s usage.. that being said I’m not gonna for sure say anything until training camp is over kind of like what you were saying Joe. Because somebody might separate themselves from the rest and that might change the offense moving forward

This is definitely a based sort of take imo. I agree in principle, but Kincaid is going to get 120+. Kincaid and Shakir will probably get 160-180 combined. The rest will be more like what you describe and largely game plan dependent.

Allen was the REAL MVP homey. Get it straight! Oh and Super Bowls are TEAM accomplishments. Lamar had a better and healthy defense and shite the bed versus KC's vaunted defense. Allen had 3 tds 0 turnovers vs that defense. It was just that our defense was decimated with injuries. Only thing Bills don't have is luck. On way to be 1st all time. Lamar is Hall of Fame without winning a Super Bowl. Josh is a media concoction. Nothing more.
