Wow, thank you so much for the help. I asked a question and you replied within seconds, and it helps me so much really do enjoy your channel and see why you have so many subscribers.
made these today, i didn't match the perfect uniformity of shape/size achieved in the video but the taste was superb really buttery, sweet and the texture was great, felt like i was eating a proper bun from a bakery. perfect.
I made these with a flax egg because I am allergic real eggs. This recipe is amazing. We had chili cheese dogs and your cottage fries. What a great dinner. You ROCK Chef John.
Oh, My! I'm going to make these today! I'm from Massachusetts but I've been living in central Florida and currently, south Georgia since 1975. I always pack a few packages of "the good hot dog buns" into my suitcase on my return trips. I also have my sisters bring me some when they come to visit me! These, and some hermits and lemon squares! Funny what foods we love (and miss) from our childhood, huh?
John...my mouth literately starting watering when I saw that buttered side just slightly toasted...my wife and I both burst out laughing at the the same moment due to our food lust embarrassment. Excellent!
Chef John, that was a killer recipe , i made it to the t and was fantastic! i don't know what was better the smell of the fresh fresh dough or the finished product. Thank you so much, I have made many of your recipes through the years and i thank you again sir. Regards, Rene Sarasota, Florida
I make my own hamburger and hotdog buns. It is worth the effort because the taste is out of this world good! Don't knock it until you've tried it. Chef John is right on the mark once again.
I will never give up ketchup!!! But I also love classic yellow mustard, so I understand. However after living in Denmark, adding remoulade or mayonnaise to hot dogs (along with ketchup and mustard) is most definitely my favorite way to enjoy them!
Not only did you disrespect my parents whom I love dearly, but you even called me a savage. But that won't stop me from loving you and your recipes chef
I’ve been making your burger buns for over two years now. Hubby asked for hot dogs tonight, so I have these rising as I type. Can’t wait to taste them. Thank you.
I made these today. First, I forgot to add the melted butter to the dough. The result being that the dough was a bit too dry so I added a little water (didn't realize I had forgotten the butter until it was already rising) Second, I let them rise too long (checked after 1:30 and the dough had tripled!) so they ended up being huge, like 10" long. All that being said, they are delicious. I will try again and be more attentive but these are soooooo good. We're making lobster rolls tonight.
I've had bread over-rise when I've let time get away from me. Now I set a timer alarm on my cell phone to remind me to check. And I check sooner rather than later. Sometimes that dough just takes off quickly.
I betcha that sausage will work instead of hot dog meat. German brands use sausage while American use weiners. Sausage and mustard is a combination made to be with each other. Weiners are really salty and the addition of ketchup to the American weiner is a must, to counter the saltiness of that sodium filled weiner.
Well, even though my bun-shaping skills do not come close to the Chef John version, they came out terrific! One bite took me right back to my days spent at the SF Zoo with Grandpa. And I guess I'm a different kind of "freak of Nature"...gotta have mayo, white truffle mustard, and red onions on my hotdogs. Thanks for another great recipe Chef John!
Thank you chef John! Since I've started cooking this is the very first time my dough rised properly and with an excellent final result😎 Although when I tried your recipe for hamburger buns turned out an almost disaster in my kitchen, I guess this was the magic one, for the hot dogs😂
I am making these today to substitute for the split top McRib bun that I'm making at home. With ground pork, not rib meat. I call it the "MitRib." And I can't wait for dinner!
Thank you, Thank you, thank you! Split top are my favorite rolls for everything from lobster rolls to Italian hot dogs (hot dog with sauteed peppers, onions and potatoes, with hot mustard). I am SO going to make these next week.
Wow they look amazing!!! I've tried your bread recipe and it was a HUGE hit amongst everyone. Cant wait to see how popular I become with these hehe :) Gonna put them on my vege dogs because I don't eat hotdogs lol
lol Oh Chef John you never disappoint. I am actually going to be using these buns for meatball subs. I made them from a different recipe before (sorry) but I love your recipes so I am headed to the recipe for the dough and off to the kitchen. Thank you.
Perfect for the summer season ! Making this one for sure... thanks !! BTW... your twice risen Pizza dough recipe , is totally the best I have ever made. Light, yet crispy... soooo good !
There once was a Greek, tommy c, who owned the Indiana red hots. He'd use Vienna hot dogs. But topped them with a Greek twist... pickled green tomatoes or pickled stuffed (cabbage, carrot, parsley) banana peppers or pickle stuffed hot pepper. They were exceptional. One of a kind.
Hello i love your videos. this is maybe the 10th video of yours i have watched and finally i subscribed to you ha ha. i am relatively poor. well no spare money after bills. so i know how to make bread but lately i have been making bread to cut down on food cost, but since then i have been looking up how to make other bread items and your Chanel has helped me out so much. i have already made the hamburger buns and now looking to make hot dog buns and who would of knowen its the same just different shape ( well i had a hunch ) well i would just like to say thank you! keep up the good work and ill keep looking to you for recipes!
Chef John. I wanna thank you for introducing me to mustard-only hotdog. I finally realize how the overpowering taste of ketchup covers the true taste of hotdog. =)
In Montreal, most of the hot dog places sell them like this, either grilled like you did or steamed!! I never thought of it before... but I have never purchased a hot dog here with the other type of hot dog bun. Huh...
Check out the recipe: www.allrecipes.com/Recipe/237824/Chef-Johns-Hot-Dog-Buns/
Nothing about these buns look "normal"🤪
Wow, thank you so much for the help. I asked a question and you replied within seconds, and it helps me so much really do enjoy your channel and see why you have so many subscribers.
I don't often admire another man's buns, but when I do they belong to Chef John.
OMG! loooooool
's
lmao I like his buns too wink
Best. Comment. Ever.
Hahhaa
made these today, i didn't match the perfect uniformity of shape/size achieved in the video but the taste was superb really buttery, sweet and the texture was great, felt like i was eating a proper bun from a bakery. perfect.
The grilled/toasted bun is key! It is so New England. Thank you so much for sharing the recipe I love it
I made these with a flax egg because I am allergic real eggs. This recipe is amazing. We had chili cheese dogs and your cottage fries. What a great dinner. You ROCK Chef John.
Love how Chef John never fails to mix a bit of moderately subtle risque comments into his vids.
Time to spread open that bun and insert wiener. :D
Chef John you have such a way with words. You describe things in the most delightful way.
Chef John is the only person that can call me a savage and blame my parents for raising me up wrong and still get loved even more after the video.
My mouth has never watered for a simple hotdog before. So simple yet tasty.
Oh, My! I'm going to make these today! I'm from Massachusetts but I've been living in central Florida and currently, south Georgia since 1975. "You freaks of nature that put ketchup on your hotdogs." Literally the best quote.
Never, ever put ketchup on a hot dog. Ever!
@@monizdm why not? I thought that was the one thing you're "supposed" to put on a hot dog.
"It's not your fault, I blame your parents"
John...my mouth literately starting watering when I saw that buttered side just slightly toasted...my wife and I both burst out laughing at the the same moment due to our food lust embarrassment. Excellent!
Chef, Your Paul Smith humor at the end of this recipe is beautiful, absolutely beautiful. Tks
Chef John, your video is one of my best medicine when I am upset.... Thank you!
Loooool omg chef John never fails with the humor . Both his recipes and his jokes are always on point
Dude, mustard and sauerkraut is the way to go man!
Ahhhh, yeah!
Making my mouth water. Love that combo.
And ketchup! Lol
grouchfan That's one thing the germans definitely got right: mustard + sauerkraut is god's hotdog combo. Amen.
Add some chopped onions and I'm all aboard.
OMG I made these tonight and they were hands down the BEST HOT DOG ROLLS EVER!!!! I am swearing off store bought from now on!
True appreciation takes time. Real food takes preparation to enjoy. Love it.
Chef John,
I've watched every one of your videos and you never fail to impress me...Gosh, you are the best!!

Aren't the HB buns great? Love that recipe.

Those buns look amazing! I think I can smell them. Mustard, sauerkraut and a little onion please. :)

Sausage is definitely the way to go
This recipe is amazing, tried it and it came out great, it was a big hit
Chef John, you are my hero! Greetings from Germany :-)

Best buns ever! Thank you! They even turned out with 50% whole wheat atta flour! (I didn't have enough all-purpose)
My mom made hot dogs like that toasting the buns on all sides. Oh the memories!
Thank you chef John! Since I've started cooking this is the very first time my dough rised properly and with an excellent final result😎
Although when I tried your recipe for hamburger buns turned out an almost disaster in my kitchen, I guess this was the magic one, for the hot dogs😂
This is definitely way better than a slice of wonder bread....
I am making these today to substitute for the split top McRib bun that I'm making at home.
