16:28 That is a feature of the arcade version of Centipede. The snail poisons the mushrooms it touches and causes the centipede to rapidly go straight down into the area your ship is in.
Brilliant video again! This series is such a wonderful idea and thanks for doing it and putting all the time and effort into it. I pretty much agree with your ratings here, one thing I have to comment on though, Crawler.. I just LOVE the way the Centipede moves in that. it looks so cool!
Thank you very much, I'm really glad you're enjoying it! I like the formula, too, so I'll definitely be continuing with it 😁 Yes, I agree, Crawler from Watford Electronics is a revelation 😀
Thanks for the video Colin! I think 'Bug Blaster' was the version I had back in the day, which I quite enjoyed. I also didn't know that Watford Electronics made any games - theirs was quite an impressive version! Looking forward to your next entry in the series!
Thank you, I'm really glad you enjoyed the video! There is another one in mid-production but it's taking me a while to get it finished - another case of "they made HOW many versions of this game?!" 😆
I'm glad it wasn't just me 😅 I had a look on the BBC Micro games archive and they did publish a few others; not many, but I will definitely be checking them all out, because Crawler is superb!
you are very animated when you play! And that's just as it should be. Games don't always make you feel that immersed. My favourite centipede when growing up - Ocean's Caterpillar for Vic - had that effect. I still love it.
Haha I'm not always that animated - you should see me playing Civilization (I just have a glazed over look the entire time). But yes, if a game is as fast and manic as Exterminator, I do get quite into it 😂
Thank you, I'm glad! The Jupiter Ace was a rather unusual machine to have had back in the day, I've seen a few videos about it and it appeals to me - I have a ZX81 and the Ace is a bit like a souped-up version!
Love the video, so many play through videos just show game play with no commentary and I loved yours, didn't hurt coming first ;) I wonder if that Watford one was by a college friend of mine, although he called it millipede and had sinusoidal scroll text. PS I did a version in the eighties, but never added lives or game over. Arcadian got someone a few years ago to call the game, decrement a life when it returned and called it again and the zeroed the score etc to start a new game.
Thank you, Tricky, I'm really glad you liked it! Your Centipede is such a great game, it was a pleasure to celebrate it - as well as reviewing all the other variants, most of which I didn't previously know myself 😄
Keep making these videos. Great stuff!
Thank you! Must admit, I'm enjoying this formula, definitely keen to make more like it 😀

Ah, fair enough - I don't think I'd ever noticed that until you pointed it out!

Now I just want to play Centipede games 🙂
That's the spirit! You've got 18 versions to choose from 😁

+1 here for not knowing about Watford Electronics venture into video game publishing. They kept that quiet!
Did they release anything else?

Oh yes....loved this game. Looking forward to this video.
Thank you, Stephen! I hope you enjoy it :-D
Centipede was one of my favourites, but unfortunately I only had the Jupiter Ace version. Very much enjoyed the nostalgia of the video though!

I only ever played the Superior Software version (on any platform) and until this video didn't know vertical movement was a thing!
Funnily enough I also didn't know until later in life, because as a child I had only known the Superior version myself 😅

great video, absolutely loving it!
Thank you, that's very kind - it was great fun to make, too!
I loved Caterpillar (15), felt like a pair with Hopper.
It's a great one, definitely a solid Electron arcade game!
First video game I have played. On machine.
In the arcades or on a home computer?
“Digital flatulence” is a term I wasn’t familiar with 😊
Haha... I felt it was suitably descriptive! 😜
Does any remember playing a game called Eggs It back in the eighties?
I'll have to admit, it's not one I know, sorry!
The hedgedog in killapede is achally a beetle (sorry for my bad grammar)
Ah, a beetle does make more sense 😄
