Could it be because of the upcoming Trump Tariffs? I saw a video right after the election about a Pennsylvania company suspending Christmas bonuses because of the upcoming Trump Tariffs. A slowing economy which will signal a start of a recession. The workers there thought China would be paying for the Tariffs.
How do you figure that? Tariffs would have leveled the playing field and not given foreign manufacturers an unfair advantage in the manufacturing process and eventual costs. What a stupid statement.
@dyates6380 tariffs are a regressive tax on imported goods. The foreign manufacturer won't pay for the tariffs. The increases will be paid by the consumer not the countries/manufacturer. The pass off the cost. Also, U.S. manufacturers will raise their prices inline with imported ones. So no saving money by purchasing American made products. So companies will stay in countries with lower labor costs, labor protections etc. to save money. Also, if people are paying more for goods, not currently produced in the U.S. like medications, especially generic drugs etc. they will have less money for other products. If there's reduced demand, less labor is required. So less "American jobs" add that to automation and it will kill jobs. People will have less money and purchase less. That's called elasticity of wealth. So please "educate me" about how tariffs will even the playing field? My statement wasn't "stupid" you are just lacking in knowledge and critical thinking. It amazes me all that people forgot how Trump's tariffs hurt farmers so badly they required taxpayer money in the form of even more subsides. That the cost of appliances skyrocketed regardless if they were imported or made here. That replacement parts of equipment and vehicles were crazy expensive. It would take years of financial pain of most Americans for years to have most things to be produced domestically. Private companies only care about profits. They will use and pay for every "loophole" that benefit their end.
