I was there!! It was the 2nd Annerversery, Leicester was my 1st All nighter venue , went to my 1st one on my 18th birthday!! Boy what a present! it changed my life! along with the Top of the world Stafford. What a great night this was!! I've still got my copy of the VHS video from the night! And the Annerversery patch! I'd like to dedicate this to a friend who's in this video, dancing to "many a slip" great spinner, great dancer, never wore a top on a dance floor, known to his mates as pickle, died far too young... Gary rushbrook filled that dance floor from his 1st spin to the last of his spot. A lot of what he played were also massive Stafford tunes, my favourite played by him was" lonely lover" by Jimmy McFarland. Still get goosebumps listening to it 38 years later! Awesome memories, bless you for posting this video! So much appreciated!👍👍🛵
Yeah I remember CURLY I use to make me piss with laughter great guy me& few guys went to Nottingham Oddfellows Leicester 84/85 brilliant soul club one of the finist , long live our music 🎷🎶🎸🎻🪕🎵🎼🎹🎼🎹🎼
I loved going here, catching the train down from Nottingham and seeing other people going there on the train and giving them a very, very slight nod. I remember a mass brawl with some punks and skins while waiting to get in on night.Brilliant times.
Gary was my mentor and the reason I wanted to dj. Loved the Oddfellows as a venue and hearing new 6Ts once Keb joined at this anniversary finished the job. As I helped set up the equipment at the time in both rooms I got to play the first records of the nighter using the vicar's records or one's I just bought to try loud. Saw Gary at the Stafford Reunion and didn't recognise him. I was even asked to do a few CDs of his records to giggle the memory banks.
My partner is in this video and she use to frequent this establishment at lot,as she only came from Beeston, Nottingham at the tim!...We are still massive norther fans, ktf...
Thanks for posting this it really takes me back, used to tarvel down their with Brian Rea and Keith Brady. Got to make many friends there Adam Bucannon Ste Ferris and so many more used to have some great laughs in the back room to the side of the stage
My first ever nighter! I was 19, up there with 2 other car loads from Chelmsley Wood and Sheldon (Birmingham) Rob Henn, Wally, Tit, Zeb, Acka, Jimmy Sheard, Trevor Bryant, Mark Bryant, Andy Wally…fashion? I remember wearing Farah trousers, adidas tee shirt and Puma trainers, cock o’ the walk, fantastic memories!! STF
This place rings bells with me.In 84&85 me and mod friends John Gall&Alan Griffiths travelled to nighters across the North/Midlands,after checking 'Black Echoes' weekly, for forthcoming venues.I should've kept a diary!
brian rea tony claton and the great adam d,jd what a crackin nite so glad i was there, grimmer if you pick this up miss you mate.been a long time steve morris
A couple of faces I remember well here, my mate John Gibson from Grantham, (in the white polo shirt at 4.50) and a chap called Bryn who was a superb dancer who always stood out for his fast spins and the fact he always danced with no shirt on.
Brain was my good friend, known fondly to his mates as pickle, and yes your so right,he was a great dancer and one of best spinner's to ever grace a northern soul dance floor.! He sadly died in a tragic accident about 5 years after this video from that Annerversery night from the liecester All nighter. He's missed very much by All the Walsall and Wolverhampton soulies. Me,pickle and a chap called rod,( always wore a White head band and black tank top) used to go All over the country together, even travelled to a All nighter In Perth in Scotland in rods old ford escort! Took us 6 hours to get there,5 hours driving in a straight line up the M6 and beyond and missed the only left turn we needed to take! Lol, great memories of the time of my Life! Glad to know you remember a wonderful guy.👍👍🛵
That's me Ollie from the Bishops Cleeve/Cheltenham Soul crew in the purple aged 17 yrs... With hair and tash, too scared to spin lol.... Andy Barber, a buddy doing cool dressed in blue with white stripes later in the vid doing fine:)
I was good mates with Andy's brother Graham.. he always took a rasta blaster to put at the front of the stage and recorded the nighters, cus of how bloody rare and obscure the tunes were!! ,at the time a lot of the tunes were newly discovered hence the title of 60s Newies that were the in thing at the time!, It was the only way to get recordings of these life changing tunes at the time, And I've still got my copies on old Maxwell tapes! Most of the records have been pressed since those day's but those old tapes captured the atmosphere, like when 200 people would All clap at the same time when a certain beat in a tune would stand out, like Bobby Smith's"walk on into my heart". And I'm sure there were way more than 200 people on the dancefloor on this night! Amazing memories and great to read comments from others that were there and knew the soulies i knew. I knew All the Cheltenham gang. I've even got pics from this night with them All And many other mates from all over, taken on my now antique Kodak 110 instent camera! Who needs technology!!👍👍🛵
I must have known you from back in the day,i used to go everywhere with Rod and pickle, who sadly died tragically. I was from walsall but also travelled with the soulies from Wolverhampton. Steve Powell another great dancer is in this video with the red top on...i do remember you,but didn't know you that well to talk to! I remember tall Craig from Cheltenham. God now the memories are flooding back! Lol 👍👍🛵
Brilliant alniter the room to the the side of the stage, music, atmosphere Oddfellows had it all. 1 awful memory was a girl dying RIP on the dance floor
Brilliant quality on this man, I've got the VHS copy which is ok but quite ropey lol Don't suppose you could sell me a copy of your re-mastered copy could you it's just so shiny. I remember this night so well, way too many good memories of this allnighter.

I got into soul around 79 and was going to Hinckley around 83, you didn’t see any acrobatics, just dancing.
