@@MuskratOutdoors I lived in the Homedale Marsing area for 13 years and enjoyed every minute. I've been back home here in Southwest Louisiana since 1989 I've been back up there a few times to visit friends and my son in the Homedale Marsing cemetery and when I get back up there I would like to meet y'all.
Muskrat...your leather work is outstanding. What I'd give to be able to sit with you and learn the tricks of the trade. I dabbled with leather in my younger days but didn't stick with it. Sure wish I would have, as each time you post a leather video it resonates with me. Looking forward to the third.
Thank you very much! Leather prices went way up with the "Mad cow" stuff and stayed high. It's expensive, but fun to do. If you still have your tools, you should get back into it.
Good Morning Jon! Thanks! Wasn't planning on making this a three part thing, but these aren't fast to make. This video a day stuff is hard to do!! This is about all I've been doing the last few days.
Nice work! Can't wait to see them finished. I can tell you made a few of these before. A lot of different steps go into these. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin
So Gary, when and where in your life did you learn your leather crafting skills. Your ability to freehand patterns is quite a skill in itself. We enjoy your music 🎶 selections and waking up to watch your videos. Keep trucken 👍🏻
Good Morning! Thanks! As a kid, I got a Tandy Leather kit for Christmas one year. Doing ranch work, I couldn't afford the things I wanted, so I started making them instead. After awhile, the other ranch hands said "Hey, make me one too." It kind of went on from there. I had a saddle shop of my own from 1997-2002 here in town. Trouble is, anytime you take something you enjoy, and turn it into a job, it changes from fun, into just work. I still enjoy it, but not as much as before. I'm completely self taught. The drawing, hours of doodling on paper when I was bored back in school when I should have been paying attention to the class! Ha!
Thank you very much! Wes? Great name WildWes ! I have an Uncle Named Wes Tabaka. He used to have a ball cap that read "Wacky Tabaky". He got hassled by a Cop years ago, because the cop thought he was a drug dealer until my Uncle showed him his driver's license and said "It's just a nickname".
Outstanding job!!! Quite a skill you have Gary. One question. When you were using the riveting press I got a glimpse of a red bumper sticker, it looked interesting maybe you could show it to us in the next video. 😂😂
Your making more $ than a doctor or lawyer at the speed your making these chaps in the video...in real time not so much😂. Nice watching what you can do with leather Gary. Pretty cool stuff. You take care. 🇺🇲🔪🔥🌲
@@MuskratOutdoors Your welcome. Yea I need to check them out. eBay or Amazon. I saw flint napping kits on Amazon and leather kits. Might be cheaper on eBay. So I’ll check them out. And thank you for sharing my friend. I actually mentioned you and Idaho in my last video. Stay blessed brother
Olive oil can also. Pure Neatfoot Oil is good, it's the Neatsfoot compound you are thinking of. That stuff will rot the leather over time and if you use cotton thread, it will ruin that also. One of the top saddle makers in the county lives here. He uses a 50/50 mix of pure neatsfoot oil and olive oil. I haven't tried that, but probably should.
@MuskratOutdoors ya know Gary I'm 73 learned saddle making in Elko Nevada years ago and I've used olive oil all my life. I've never had a problem with using olive oil. Wishing you and yours a great spring . As ever just Tom.

You should use olive oil on usin, leather. Neatsfoot permeates leather and makes it weak.
