  • Two students are in a serious condition with another five being treated in hospital after a near drowning incident.
At around 12.30pm two students who were wading at the ocean’s edge got into trouble after the surf pulled them into deeper waters.
Other students attempted to rescue them, however it’s believed they also got into trouble.
Lifeguards from Bondi managed to rescue all involved and resuscitation was commenced on two of the young males.
NSW Ambulance dispatched local community first responders, in additional to their primary care units.
Haztolah responders assisted lifeguards and an off ED Nurse who was at the beach at the time assisted with airway management on the most serious patient.
The students were on a two week trip from Indonesia. A student said this was their first time to Bondi Beach.
They were told they could wade in the shallow sea, but were not permitted to enter the surf.
Inspector Norm Spalding said in an interview, that the students were lucky to have year round lifeguards patrolling Bondi.
Six of the students were transported to Sydney Children’s Hospital, whilst the most serious patient was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital.

The Jewish First Responder agency Hatzalah was well represented at this event. I'm so proud of seeing fellow Jews aiding the sick and injured. Yasher Koach to the Hatzalah volunteers, and all first responders in Bondi.

Great job lads. I was wondering if they have signs in other languages posted anywhere about the rips. It seems like a lot of tourists end up in trouble but I’ve never seen any signs.

Because oddly enough it is not for entertainment it is a real life tragic event.
      This is what really happens.
Aldi everything that is shown on that page show needs a release form signed by all appearing in the specific case footage.

They don't film all week so this must be one of those days, and well like someone else said they film in the summer where it's the busiest

Because Bondi Rescue is a tv show not a youtube thing. The channel is just for airing clips and episodes from the show. So if the show wasn't airing at the time (and it isn't) you won't see anything about this.

Ghosh. So many foreigners really have no idea how very dangerous Bondi Beach - and rips in general - can be. They're utterly clueless. Even Sydneysiders sometimes don't, which is baffling to me. Maybe all foreigners should all receive a beach safety brochure upon arrival in Australia - and it should be mandatory knowledge for all tour guides so that they can warn their charges. But then people often don't listen anyway... Great job, Bondi team! Seven in one go has got to be a record!

Well said...I notice this all the time and I have lived there... Sydney is becoming a high percentage of Chinese living there and they do not know how to swim! & get into so problems...all the life guards really must be thinking.."crist, not again, when will these people listen and learn"!.. although of course they don't say that..but how come it's very rare they are saving the life of an Australian?!

I know this question was 2 years ago but just thought I would reply anyway just incase someone else was curious: I was researching this and found out the that the Jewish paramedics are from an organisation called “Hatzolah” who are volunteer paramedics that respond mostly to the Jewish community. They are the first responders on scene taking care of the first critical part of the patients needs before the ambulance arrive. They do this as well as catering for the Jewish unique needs. For more info check out their website :) www.hatzolah.com.au/about-us/ ... hope that helps! 😊

sits because the "bondi beach" neighborhood (right by the beach) has a large Jewish community and their first responders are sometimes called for help by the police.

I'm not Jewish, but I like Hatzolah. I new about them from the service they provide in NY. So since them I follow them, I belong to a volunteer ems service and I like seeing the work of other volunteer groups, like them. Good work Hatzolah.

Chinese!..sorry but every single rescue I have seen on this show are from this community!..that come from landlocked counties, who have little or no experience of swimming in these sea's, even the police officer reporting mentioned if you are a weak swimmer with very little experience of the sea you can easily have problems!..it's very sad but seen every episode of this show and it is 99% of foreigners that get into trouble! That's a fact! My Australian partner has said the Australia's are brought up by the oceans and learn how to swim well from a very young age, and no the danger's...many Chinese, Japanese, and other nationals come over to Sydney and take risks as they can't swim!!
