On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of Chicago IL on 7-23-20.
We're looking at a 1966 Ford Mustang GT Convertible in Night Mist Blue Paint. The car comes with the factory 289 Cubic Inch K Code High Performance “Hipo” V8 engine producing 271 HP. This one has a 4 Speed manual transmission.
The car's Owner is Ken Nagel. Ken’s had this car since 2016. Ken shares this highly optioned Mustang that looks “showroom” new has a rare dealer optioned “lighted” Mustang logo in the grill. I’ve never seen that before.
If you're interested in seeing this car in Ken's collection, see this link.

ENJOY!
Someone at Ford loved those glen plaid trunk mats, they were a staple for decades. Loop carpet was big back in the day too. Wood trim looks like MacTac. Lots of Gee Gaws on this particular model.OCD detailing on engine. Exhaust is quite vroomy. No liner on rag top. Support hoops visible. As usual cool find Lou!
Hi Ron, Thank you for viewing, sharing, and glad to read you enjoy this cool find :-) Lou
Awesome car!!!! Awesome job Lou!!!!
Thank you David :-) Appreciate the encouraging words. Lou
A'66 GT, convertible, K code 289 HiPo, Blue AND "The right amount of pedals" -GOLD!!
Another one of Mr. Nagel's beauties.
GREAT VIDEO LOU.
HI TCT9MM, Happy to share this nugget of "GOLD!" with you :-) My pleasure sharing with you, Lou
Beautiful car.
Hi Michael, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Very nice Stang! My dad had a new 65 (6-banger), and a neighbor had a new 66 Stang with the 289, 4-speed. Loved their car! Wasn’t the GT though. These cars were it until 67 when the Cameros came out.
Grew up in Orlando.
Hi Stephen, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Dads car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
K codes make up less than 1% of mustangs produced from 64-67. This a rare gem!
Hi Jordan, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you enjoy. Lou
3 pedals is always the right number!
Nice !
Bravo and a standing ovation Ken. Never seen a better 66 GT 💙

Another great video Lou my Uncle bought my Aunt a new red 66 GT Mustang Convertible as wedding present back when they were new.
Hi PlymouthDuster 225, You're Uncle knows how to treat his wife :-) Lou
Good God, will the 64 1/2 comments ever stop. There was no such thing. They were early 1965s. Luggage racks should never be added to a mustang. Sharp stang Ken!
Hi Pat, Thank you for viewing and sharing. Happy to read you think this Stang is "Sharo" :-) Lou
I love that Mustang good job keep doing what you doing be safe

Fabulous.....abdolutely lovely....the common englishmans dream...i do prefer the t shift auto box though...if I was being picky...gorgeous under the bonnet...i could dry my clean laundry under there...
Hi David, High praise for this Mustang :-) Lou
I’m 12 and I’m saving money for a 1957 Chevy bel air convertible and a 1950 caddy Seville I was always a fan of old school stuff I loved the 50s stuff the most best cars in human history all the cars in the 1950s were hot and sexy ugly wasn’t a word for 1950s cars.
Hi Jayden the scorbunny, You're doing the exact right thing. Save, stay focused, do well in school, help others find what they need, and you'll be behind the wheel of the right car for you soon, Lou
@@loucostabile I meant 1959 Cadillac Seville not 1950 my bad.
As any long-term car enthusiasts might say, I've seen so many Mustangs and Camaro's that I hardly take notice these days. Now Ken's example makes me feel like I'm seeing a 1st generation Mustang for the first time! As expected with Ken's impeccable taste, it's an exceptional model. I have a feeling the car was a demo/showroom-stopper ordered car. I never even saw that grill center lamp! Just incredible. The rather patriotic red, white, and blue colors are spectacular.
Hi Joseph, High praise for this 1st Gen Mustang :-) Lou
Lovely car! :)
Hi Aelita, Happy to read you think this car is "Lovely" :-) Lou
I love your videos, best RUclips channel for oldtimers
Hi Coneq1337, High praise :-) Hope the videos keep us young at heart, Lou
STANG! STANG! STANG ALERT! The awesomeness factor just blew off the charts! Even without an 8-Track player and quadraphonic speakers, she still rawks! Gotta love it! Groovy Rating: 5! With a bonus Hi-5!!!
HI ImTheDaveman, "The awesomeness factor just blew off the charts!" High praise! Happy to share this Pony Car with you, Lou

Goodday Lou,
What a gorgeous Mustang, Ken's cars are just the best of the best.
Like Ken said the Ultimate one, love the Rally dash set up. I prefer the Boss 351, 1971 models but this Mustang is something else.
It would be a treat to own & drive. Another great video 👍

Hi Bruce H., Happy to read you enjoy this episode :-) You're welcome, Lou
Great Mustang, the Ford AM 8-track surprised me though. The first I knew about 8-tracks was in 1968, when I went with my friend and his parents to Wolfies Tape Town in South Bend. That was a store that specialized in 8-track Tape players for homes and cars and sold tapes. The store introduced Michiana to 8-tracks and later cassette tape decks and tapes. Automobile manufacturers usually didn't put things like that in cars until the demand for those items took hold in the aftermarket world. So it is odd to me that an 8-track tape deck would be available from the factory in 1966. Back in those days AM-FM radios were optional on cars over AM radios and not yet commonly found in cars. FM radio was a younger industry and had most recently in those days upgraded to broadcasting in stereo which was making it more appealing as FM stations started broadcasting in stereo and the number of FM broadcasters increased. Prior to the 60's FM radios were not common in Automobiles. It seemed to me that as tape decks became more popular in cars they were included with AM-FM radios. This makes that AM 8-track even more surprising because AM didn't start broadcasting in stereo until much later, in the late 70's or early 80's. I am thinking that the tape deck came from a later model and was added to this Mustang at a later date, but before the present owner took possession of the car. I even have doubts that it was a Ford factory product, more like a dealer-installed aftermarket product.
Hi Daniel, Happy to read you enjoy this "Great Mustang: :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Beautiful Mustang anyone would be very proud to have in their garage. I had never seen a mustang in the grill that lights up. High Performance 289 with icing on the cake 4 speed. Great Car, Thanks Lou!
Hi Newton, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car with the rare lighted grill Dealer option :-) You're welcome, Lou
¡Una belleza! Me encantan los Mustangs, y para ser de las primeras ediciones esta hermosamente conservado. Tiene hasta sus manuales y etiquetas originales como nuevas... ¡Un verdadero clásico en buenas manos!
Hi Jaime, Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Talk about the perfect Mustang!
High praise :-)
Fantastic restoration!! If I remember correctly Ford made the 8 track desirable by buying the rights to the RCA catalog. It's hard to imagine today just how exciting it was to have a tape player in your car!!
High praise for this build :-) Thanks for sharing the tape player info.
Hi, Lou! While it's true that the Mustang is a "usual suspect" at car shows and most people can probably find an old Mustang close to home, you'd probably have to look far and wide to find one like Ken's! And no, I've never seen one with a lighted emblem either! Thanks to both of you for this gallopin' ride!
Hi iswc27, Happy to share this rare lighted emblem with you :-) My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou
What a doll, front disc brakes, too.
Gotta' get that top down, though.
I bet it's quick too, as it was birthed before the Mustangs got heavy.
Hi Johnnyc drums, Seems to go pretty good :-) Happy to read you enjoy this doll, Lou
T.G.I.F. GREETINGS. From Venezuela, . > >.
Hi Alejandro, High praise for this "SUPER COOLEST MUSTANG GT CONVERTIBLE" :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
I put about 40k miles driving a green pony just like this . The owner has a wooden leg and the clutch gave him fits so I drove us around .
Women would fall all over me ,... until they learned it wasn't my car lol .
We babied that car for the most part ( it only had 30k miles when I started driving it in 1983 ) however I did put the hammer down many times and it was something to hold on to !
He still has it in perfect condition .
Such great memories , Thanks for sharing !!!
Hi Charlie. Happy to read this car brings back memories of the green pony :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
My dad bought one exactly the same except for poppy red with white interior. I still remember the day he dropped me off at school. I made sure he dropped me at the front door .First day of school Sept.1964.

Very nice mustang!!! So that is what a guy could order from the factory? It looks very different from the tin cans they sell today. Probably should have put the car in the barn and then turned on the light behind the pony emblem, so we could see that better.
HI Steel Assault, Happy to read you enjoy this Mustang :-) Good idea on the barn / light idea. however I was running out of time. Lou
Another gem!
Happy to read you enjoy this "gem" :-) Me too.

That Mustang is nice & tight.
:-)
Awesome! Interesting to note the color code is also a "K" which stands for Nightmist Blue - unique to 1966 and 1967.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Another fine K Car... Pony Cars are, continue to be, and always have been "the thorn in the side" of all American (and even a few foreign) performance competitors...
Hi Crazcompart, Thank you sharing your thoughts, Lou
An absolute beautiful example of an American icon. Best of all characteristics: Mustang, GT, convertible, and rally wheels with double redline tires. Thanks Lou & Ken for a great presentation!
