I’ll never understand why these lads aren’t bigger than they are, the first album is fucking incredible. I honestly thought they were on a kings of leon style trajectory to superstardom, but it never hapenned. They’re a class band, massively underrated
This episode was repeated last night (July 5, 2011). This is the first time I've heard this song, and I think they performed excellent live. An excellent song too.
Saw them in Boston last night. Absolutely fantastic. They closed the encore with this song but didn't play 'Strangers' at all during the set. Harry was really flattered by the enthusiastic crowd at the show, even though it was only 2/3 full for a 650-capacity crowd. Might be my favorite album of the year, either 'Ritual' or the new Ringo Deathstarr.

Not necessarily copying Curtis, but there are definite similarities -> vocal style, stage presence. That's not a bad thing. Just because there are similarities doesn't mean they're bad.
White Lies have gotta be sick of playing this song lol I loved it for so long just from live versions like 6 months before Ritual came out then once this song was all over the radio and much music here in Canada it kind of ruined it for me HAHA.
they sound like interpol crossed with the killers... they don't sound like joy division, nobody will ever sound as hollow as joy division. and they don't sound like the smiths either, seriously?
Looks like a bunch of office workers with instruments, very stagnant, very efficient, trying to be Joy Division but with everything in tune. . .good at what they do but not rock and roll, bet they are great when they re pissed!!
And I feel like I'm breaking up But I wanted to stay. Headlights on the hillside Don't take me this way. I don't want you to hold me I want you to pray, 'Cause it's bigger than us.

Is this shirt chosen by Harry because he loved it or he had to wear it cause he lost a bet???.....However the performance went great and other members of the band weren't distracted by ......well you know :)
@grlfrendinac0ma well they're session musicians. Well commonly session musicians are common friends of bands who was asked by them to play for them as support musicians. :)
There is something epic about the chorus of this song, not sure what it is but gives me the most incredible high listening to it.
Makes me cry everytime
Ayyy it’s 2020
Me too. I understand you. And in 2020 this is still real.
2020 and I understand exactly what you mean. It's so beautiful

Well they sure are "bigger than us" 😄
Fully agree mate! I’ve been listening to them for 13-14 years now and everything they put out is simply gold!
They are on that strange level. ask anybody on the street 9/10 won't know who they are. Go to a gig of theirs and it's sold out in minutes.
Every bit of emotion I've bottled up over the years and it takes just one monumental song and one epic chorus to unlock the floodgates
Charles looks so much better after embracing the baldness.
Ian Curtis would appreciate this evolution. Class band.
Nailed it
Quite possibly, but it's funny how Harry McVeigh has been quite dismissive of comparisons with Joy Division, during interviews.
love the feeling that brings this chorus
The UK producing all the best bands again !
This live version just outrun the recorded one ...
Simply outstanding .
I think I come here every year to comment on how amazing this song and this performance is.
Really awesome backing vocals in this performance.
The bassist (second Voice) is so handsome.

Saw these guys when they supported Kings of Leon in Manchester :) indescribable
This is basically if Ian Curtis was still alive when joy division went a bit electro in new order
Just so much sound and so little show off. Simply outstanding in this age of endless overly designed talent shows...
why this band isnt selling millions around the globe i dont know ... i
So amazing
i have to sample this... so many memories to this song..
Eargasm
For me they are the biggest band in the world !!
This is awesome. I'm gonna see them for live in two days sooo excited omg

That bass player is a damn good backup singer. Probably better than the lead.
The drummer looks like Howard from TBBT when he played Rockband in that one episode :D
Not necessarily copying Curtis, but there are definite similarities -> vocal style, stage presence. That's not a bad thing. Just because there are similarities doesn't mean they're bad.
damn.

@podiumguy100 Cause most people try not to get with their real selves and listen to fun music to run away.
@podiumguy100 good question.
No idea why they arent as big as the killers
oh goodness, tommy looks so handsome =)))))
these guys are great! and yah, harry is HOT!
but i like them
White Lies have gotta be sick of playing this song lol I loved it for so long just from live versions like 6 months before Ritual came out then once this song was all over the radio and much music here in Canada it kind of ruined it for me HAHA.

thepinkalert Tears for Fears.
hahaha
No beards
it's TOO clean, we need grit. check out Diiv - Doused on letterman and their video.
hahahah wait.. what?
Looks like a bunch of office workers with instruments, very stagnant, very efficient, trying to be Joy Division but with everything in tune. . .good at what they do but not rock and roll, bet they are great when they re pissed!!
Nope, not really. Not every modern post-punk singer tries to copy Ian.
Most bands would die to have written a song like this but to nail it live on Letterman brings it to another level.
This song is bigger than us
That's a genius performance! The mix is AWESOME. Do they always have the extra members in concert? Damn I'm gonna watch it again
Gourgandise yeah they seemed to always have 2 extra people in concert
When sing the chorus together it gives me goosebumps. Well done, Charles !
Mad respect to Letterman for not forgetting them and having them back again! Such a great band
You think letterman picks the bands? 😂
@@th3g0sl0w I think he approved each band yes. He had complete control of his show.
And I feel like I'm breaking up
But I wanted to stay.
Headlights on the hillside
Don't take me this way.
I don't want you to hold me
I want you to pray,
'Cause it's bigger than us.
These guys leave coldplay in the dust. There is hope after all!
“Thank you gentlemen, I enjoyed that very much” love that little compliment from Dave lol
What a great performance.
Nice Beatles-esque harmonies. Awesome band
Great band, my shame I only discovered them recently, remind me of Interpol also.
I’ve never seen a live exhibition so similar to the master recording in the album, amazing
Heard this amazing song in the Hot Pursuit game, now I'm listening to all the live versions of it 👍👍👍
The more I listen to this song.. the more I Luuuuv it :). Amazing performance! Niiiiiice shirt!
junior dos santos on backround vocals
FUCKING solid performance!

I love this song but this chorus sounds way too clean. I really hope they didn't have playback or whatever it's called.
Alexander Salmas its not
Wow, great presentation! Sublime :)
@grlfrendinac0ma well they're session musicians. Well commonly session musicians are common friends of bands who was asked by them to play for them as support musicians. :)
@podiumguy100 at least we have survived the whole wave of today's music and still appreciate lovely tunes! stay true dude!
@podiumguy100 wait 1 year man... we hope that they stay like the band they are and not selling themselves
amazing performance
@podiumguy100 it's not all about selling millions around the globe...
@TheYoghurt21 oh i agree ...but u look at the "artists" who are and it makes you wonder ....
