Yup, my idea is to make it 60bp and always crit. We don’t have a spread move that guarantee crits. No charge turn too obviously Would make it viable against setup and not overpowered since it’s effectively just a 90bp normal move.
My differences of opinion: 65: Octazooka. Horn Attack is a pretty clear early game move and can put in a lot of work until getting access to stronger moves. Octazooka has a nice accuracy-lowering secondary effect but its 85% accuracy is just awful, but I think the fact that it was intended to be a signature move for Octillery is what really kills it; there's no reason to run this over Surf/Scald. 100: While Egg Bomb absolutely is a stinker, I still find it hard to believe Misty Explosion exists. A self-destructing special Fairy move barely any stronger than Moonblast, with its only power-boosting effect being 1.5x damage in Misty Terrain, and even then, factoring in STAB, it's effectively 25 BP less than Explosion. You have to be dealing super-effective damage or be fighting a physically-defensive, low-SpDef mon while in Misty Terrain to even be remotely worth using over a standard Fairy STAB. It was obviously meant for Misty Surge Galarian Weezing, who would almost certainly prefer Neutralizing Gas shenanigans or the Levitate ground immunity anyway. As a side note, I find it hilarious that Synchronoise can be learned by Umbreon, who is a pure Dark-type and thus any Pokemon that shares its type is immune to the move anyway.
Misty Explosion actually sees use (once in a blue moon) if you can believe it. It lets you attack and "switch" (rather violently), which is useful for the same reason U-Turn and Volt Switch are. This is why Explosion and friends (Memento, Healing Wish) are seen on suicide leads pretty often, such as Explosion Azelf or Memento Ralts. While some of these pokemon have better options, others just don't. Plus it's a special move whereas Explosion is physical. (something like Wigglytuff might run it in SU or something, it has a somewhat serviceable 80 SpA and Compeditive to punish intimidate; it gets Stealth Rock, both screens, Taunt, Encore, and a few other nice moves so there might be stuff there.) In doubles it also hits everyone, teammate included, so there are some gimmick strats that can use it.
@@natnew32 & don't forget that no type/ability is immune to Fairy unlike Normal, so you'd have to click Protect for an ally on the turn when the exploder goes boom or have a resistance or Telepathy 'mon next to it. Also, wth is SU? Is that a thing or was it a typo?
Surprised Submission wasn't mentioned in the 80BP category. It does 1/4 recoil despite only having 80 power and 80% accuracy. And it was still somehow the best Fighting-type move for most Pokémon in Gen I.
Covet is only good in game. In gen 3 Kanto there's a very dumb and painstakingly long process I used with Snorlax and covet. I went to Mt Moon and went underground to find all the Paras. Killing it with covet gives you 1 Attack EV and potentially steal tiny mushrooms and big mushrooms that helps move tutor moves once you unlock the Sevii Islands. Welp I just remember that between level 49 and level 50 my Snorlax gained +17 Attack with one level. You can potentially do the same thing with Illumise and farming Heart Scales with Luvdisc but the fishing process is just longer and more probability based. No thank you.
I support the decision of considering Tackle a friend Also Sludge wave also has the niche of not being stoppes by Bulletproof, unlike Sludge bomb. Gengar sometimes uses it because ot's other STAB Shadow ball also get's blocked. I've walled many Landorus in VGC thanks to that ability
funnily enough rage has niche uses in emerald kaizo nuzlockes due it to being one of the only available moves that lets you boost. iirc, it can be useful on fearow for brawly and on mence for the elite four. definitely agree though that it’s completely unviable in just about any other circumstance
I think my craziest idea i had to win a game was to soak my espeon in triple battle to have it hit an annoying ass physically defensive tentacruel in a secret base battle(oras) that was walling me. Outside of that specific instance i never used it outside of murdering the zubat line
11:48 not when you're using a Beldum, whose only move in its level-up learnset used to be Take Down in the earlier generations until Gen8, which changed it to Tackle instead.
You're not wrong about Cut, in a fair number of romhacks, Cut is turned into a Steel type move (sometimes with a base power boost), given a high crit rate, or both
For 50 BP, I would've gone with Magnet bomb, because only the Magnezone line learns it, and they're all special attackers. So even though they get STAB on it, it's using their weaker attack stat.
Magnet Bomb is 60 bp and never misses. Definitely not a great move but similar to others like Aerial Ace, Shock Wave, Feint Attack etc. Those moves are obviously overshadowed by stronger moves, but that’s sort of the point. Still decent in game choices if you were to put them on the average mon for STAB
It's niche but Covet does have some uses, it's one of the few moves that doesn't get called by Assist, meaning that together with Thief you hit every type for at least neutral damage when for example making a prankster assist team, ambipom also liked this move because it's a good stab move for it with technician (Tail Slap is also good but less accurate), and like thief it can be used to permanently steal someone's item. It's a shame most Pokémon that learn it also learns thief though, which with no immunities does make it better
biggest tip i can give you: volume consistency, no one wants their ear drums blown out because you played a noise super loud thinking it was funny, loud≠funny
If skull bash was a steel type move, and you gave to zamazenta it could be potentially strong, boosting bulk and body press and hitting SUPER hard even with low offensive ev investments. Of course being a charge move hurts it, but it can catch utility mons off guard, and steel is pretty good at hitting neutrally, boosting bulk also makes the potential switch-ins regret ever coming in
Baba booey Other than that, I was left saying “oh yeah, that move exists!” often while watching this video, especially when it came to Synchronoise. Interesting idea but could’ve been better. I’d be interested in a best/worst Status Moves video
Bounce saw use with Gyrados for a while for dynamax/z-moves since it gets no flying coverage. I still think it's the worst move, but it has seen more use than night daze or shadow bone I believe.
What about inferno? It has 50% accuracy and 100 power And what about zap cannon? 120 power with 50% accuracy Sure both of these moves inflict their status effect 100% of the time, still, the low accuracy makes en quite bad x3 Im probably missing something here
Inferno isn't a common move at all (and notoriously forgotten), but I agree with you. Just use Heat Wave or Flamethrower. Zap Canon would be fine if it had even like 65-70% accuracy because of the guaranteed paralysis and very high power. But also just run Thunder or T-Bolt.
Not that this would elevate its position as the worst move but Synchronoise actually has niche competitive use for GOLDUCK to hit toxapex/other waters and run with a Z crystal
The main reason you’d run covert or thief is in Little Cup, where it’s genuinely on almost every team. Since Knock Off is the most common move you’re going to constantly get a chance to steal your opponent’s item
Covet is kinda good in that fan game PokeRogue tho. Thief is... Well i dont remember even seeing it and stealing items can really hekp you in that game. Plus im sure meowth learns this and he has technician. But yeah this mostly wins cause thief just kinda left lol. Also bounce is good on few pokemon assuming you play against AI. I am late but I would like to mention one of the worst 100 bp moves It is Misty Explosion 100 bp 100 accuracy special move that hits every mon on the field and K.O. the user and if there is Misty Terrain on the field the bp becames 150 In other words it's a weaker fairy type Self-Destruct
I think Take Down is only semi okay to use with Rock Head or one of the "-ilate" abilities. Like with Aurorus or Mega Altaria. Not good by any means, but more usable than with most other Pokemon in general. It is still very replaceable, but okay for midgame strats if you want a decently strong stab move before getting the better Double Edge by the endgame/postgame. Competitvely though it is dogwater. You are mever winning a massive tournament with Take Down as a main STAB ever. Feel free to prove me wrong, but the cards are staked against take down as a move.
insane that you didn't consider Misty Explosion for the 100 BP move, its like self destruct but with half the power, and even in misty terrain its not that good
I would argue that Covet is much better than Round. The ability to take items is definitely helpful especially early on when pokemon might hold stuff like berries. In competitive, you also have the option to use Covet on normal type Technician users like Persian & Ambipom, where Round has no such luxury. Doesn’t help that Round’s gimmick is also terrible, since it forces another pokemon to use Round on the same turn.
round is pretty good in double, you can use something like choice specs/throat spray porygon z with a super fast teammate to blast with 120 adaptibility boosted rounds
Constrict should be 70 base power, and deal double damage to targets affected by trapping moves like Wrap, Whirlpool and Fire Spin. That would be unique.
That and also wing attack is outclassed, even if only slightly, by aerial ace, pluck, etc. While covet's only counterpart is thief. A large majority of mons with wing attack also have either ace or pluck, if not both, but theres a good amount of mons with only covet. Also normal stab
