Darren Huenemann, a spoiled 18-year old plots to have two classmates murder his mother and grandmother so he can inherit their fortunes. His worship of Caligula leads him to treat all like those in the Roman Imperial Court, manipulating, threatening and cajoling those who would stand in his way. Based on a true story of the early Nineties in British Columbia.

Having seen this over 10 yrs ago, I knew this was basically a true story, but I always thought it was based on a different story. I thought it was somewhat based on Dana Ewell, a handsome narcissistic sociopath who masterminded the murder of his self-made millionaire father, mother, & sister, so that he could inherit everything. Like I said, *masterminded*; a poor immigrant fellow student & aspiring hitman, Joel, did the wet work for his share of Dana's inheritance.
One of the reasons they were caught is that they were such an unlikely pair of friends. Of course, they're both still in prison.

It's available on the site for purchase, they'd never let us upload the full movie here without striking the video.

Huenemann, Muir, and Lord were convicted of first-degree murder. Muir has since been paroled. H and L are still incarcerated. It is unlikely H will ever be released, as he tried to hatch another plot while incarcerated to have his step-father killed. Lord's parents are a real pain with the media; they still claim their son is innocent. I partly grew up in South Delta and was in Doris Leatherbarrow's dress shop (Rene's) many times. Pam Hyatt, who plays Doris in the movie, looks eerily like her. So sad that such a hard-working woman from a very humble beginning made something of herself, and it was all taken away by one lousy, greedy kid (and his associates). The last time I was by the house where Leatherbarrow and Sharon Huenemann were murdered (811 - 49th Ave. Delta) it looked like it was going to be demolished. Doris was so proud of that house and the swimming pool...the pool that Darren tried to drown her in before master minding his bigger plan involving Muir and Lord. Hint: Don't discuss your net worth in front of your kid(s)/grandkid(s).

Thanks. I have a vague memory of Darren sitting on the counter of the Tsawwassen store like the little prince. Doris was a fairly humble woman, who dressed herself in cheap polyester slacks with an over blouse.
Her house on 49th was nice, but blocks away from the expensive view homes on English Bluff. Her only extravagance was the white Cadillac.
I think Darren's materialistic bent stemmed from Sharon. One thing I always found strange was this: Sharon's first marriage was to a doctor. They relocated to California. When the marriage went bust, Sharon stayed in California because she wanted to purchase a new Mustang, and if she lived there for "x" amount of months, she would not have to pay taxes and/or duty before returning to Canada. So much for the emotional toll of divorce - a new car was more important. (Most would have wanted to get out of California asap, and all the painful memories etc.)
The timing of Darren's murder plot was also due to Sharon's desire to move into new water-front home in pricey Oak Bay, and she was pestering Doris for the money to do so. Darren realized that if Doris gave Sharon the money to buy this house (approx. $700k) half or all of that house would automatically go to Darren's step-father.
$700,000 was a big chunk of Doris' estate.
Darren had it all figured out...down to the last miserable penny.
