  • This boss is pretty agile when its retreating; reminds me of that chameleon in Arise, lol. I can't say I'm a fan of its hitboxes; its running tusk/horn attack and its tail spin have slight variations(distance in the former, degree of spin for the latter) that make it hard to perfect dodge them, so I opted to guard when necessary. Fortunately, guarding nullifies damage, so I could get away with this as a no damage run.
I use a specific attack pattern, usually combo 4 into combo 2(which has a thrust as its second attack) since after combo 4, he'll retreat some steps away, leaving my range. This helps me keep on top of him, as his mobility is much greater than Gran's.
Gran's solid in battle, the only thing I can say I dislike about him that stands out to me is that in order to maximize the potential of his skills, you need Adept levels(the "Arts I-IV"). When you use one skill, it'll take ~5 secs for the Adept level to reset, so its enough time to get all of his artes out and have the maximum strength, but at the same time, it discourages using them independently. Since the cooldowns are different it means you'll be sitting on them for a bit which is potential damage lost. Its not really debilitating though, but it does cut down on his versatility if you use him this way, or cut down his damage if you don't.

Looking clean! How exactly does the guarding work? Seems pretty strong if it nullifies damage :o

It is a depletable resource that recovers overtime. Very similar to Tales of Xillia iron stance, the color starts at blue and as it takes hits, it'll change to orange then to red. This mechanic is in the mobile game, so I'd guess it has its own HP and if its HP goes below zero, the guard will fail, you'll take the full damage, and be unable to guard for a while. I THINK you can perfect guard and it would prevent the shield's HP from being depleted(either that or its just a boost to the Link gauge which is also blue), but that's just a guess 🤷🏾‍♂
