It's really great to see these issues being brought forth in the news. This was all done by design. There are so many homes that should be worth more than what's declared, but because it's in a "red -lined" area they're not. And when Blacks have the ability to be a part of a more substantial neighborhood some of them get a little snooty/snotty and think they've arrived. Everyone truly wants to live in a decent community. So if you think about it this should be an issue that the powers that be in city, state, and federal government should be highly concerned. This can still effect any area. I was so hurt to learn that FHA was a part of this red-lining. I learned that and so many other horrifying issues in a book I'll recommend-"The Color of Law", by Mr. Richard Rothstein, of whom I had the pleasure to meet and listen to.

"They think they've arrived" due to poverty trauma. Instead of condescension, recall that impact.

You can rebuild, reinvest etc.. all you want if you don't clean up the violent crimes or crimes in general in those community it will just be flushing money down the drain. Nobody will still want to live there. Relining isn't the problem it's the people who live in those communities causing violence, killing each other etc...is why their property value is worth nothing.

There are all kinds of programs that are only there to help black communities. @@Shane-bx8ws You choose to highlight one side of the issue and ignore the other so I know you are biased. Black schools were created because racists policies prevented blacks from attending white schools. Programs and grants are available to ALL races not just blacks now. You cant name a single piece of legislation that negatively impacted white people by race but there are MANY that targeted blacks. For example, when WW2 veterans returned home, they were given the G I bill to buy homes and attended college, blacks were EXCLUDED based on race. So try harder, you can't rewrite history.

Usually the same stats for blacks applies to latinos because the rates of discrimination is very similar. So while its not a story about “latinos” fixing the problem helps the community as much as the black community. Its a two birds one stone scenario.
