Perhaps my next overseas trip should be to China. Thank you for introducing us to your girlfriend. If you want spicy food in NZ, you need to try a good Indian meal - I never found good Indian food in North America and they all think it's awful, because it's the same as Mexican food here - bland! So glad you're coming back to NZ for a bit longer though, so please try (if you can get it, chatinad chicken is amazing, and a lamb vindaloo is always great!) ❤
Dads Pies are actually really good. That one has been microwaved so its gone all soft and yuck. Try one again but cooked in an Air fryer. delicious. Have a great trip :)
hey dude, at least your gf is chinese which makes your travel to china a real breeze cos otherwise you be in for a real weird cultural changes mate. i was born in mainland china and came to nz when i was 7 and spent most of my life in wellington apart from a few years in united states and canada. and yes ive been following your vlogs of your reviews of takeways throughout your travel. most of them i've been past regular customer so was good to see your view on it. yes china's smoking policy very laxed and going toilet could get interesting depending on how rural the place you goto. where i was brought up, many toilets had no seats and you had to squat. enjoy your trip.
how long has your gf been in nz or western civilisation? asking as both her english and mandarin still very good and sound local. ive sadly lost alot of my mother tongue as ive been in nz for most of my 39yrs
Your experience in China will be entirely different with a Chinese partner. Navigating the place without any Chinese would be near impossible. You should have a ball, make sure to try plenty of different foods, they are much more regional than you might think, the bulk of what we get in the west is Cantonese from the south . Also get off the beaten track, you’ll see a whole different China and what ever you do take plenty of the high speed trains they are awesome and make our shitty rail system in NZ look third world , I found them preferable to flying as they are almost as quick, infinitely more comfortable and you don’t get all that ridiculous waiting you do at airports, although the security is just as strict. Cheers Chris - had two long trips there, saw a lot came back with the different view which is to seperate the people from the politics (which you would be unwise to talk about) - the people especially away from the city centres are very curious of westerners and a lot of the young people “have” English although very limited vocabulary. 😊
