Just FYI that I also was aware about the “out sweep” and “in sweep” part of the stroke. Thanks for this! Just started analyzing my stroke with my GoPro footage.

It also feels like an artistic move, maybe a dance figure or maybe drawing a gun like a cowboy in the films :) An aesthetically pleasing move.

Hey Brenton, I have an effortless swimming membership and am completing your art of triathlon swim program. One of the drills is the polo swim and although it is desribed in the effortless swimming terminolgy document, I was wondering if there was a video of the drill to see whether Im doing it properly. Also, I love the program. I started in the high 1:50/100m range when I started at the start of 2019 and am now breaking into the high 1:30/100m for freestyle over 1000 to 2000m. So big kudos to the work you put into developing that program.

Good use of the catch-up drill, less to think about while focusing on the end of the pull. My pool just shut down today for obvious but questionable reasons, so sad. I guess I'll practice on land.

I agree with the streamlining in almost glancing the hip as the hand leaves the water. However, the “correct” example, while beautifully done actually has his palm in an almost parallel position with the surface of the water. I try to lift the elbow there so as to leave the water perpendicular to the body and yet almost skim the water on recovery. Also, re-entering the water 6-8 inches above the head to begin the lead early.

Everything sounds good there mate except re-entering the water 6-8i chest above the head I know it as between the hand and elbows of the other hand when driving the hand into the catch phase. 6-8inches is too short your not going to catch enough water there mate. Think about it

Why do you have 2 red lines on your nose ? Not from the goggles though, do you wear a nose plug on the mid-section of the nose ?

Why is it bad to finish wide on the hip? You don't give an explanation. I'd like to understand...
i.e. is it just a matter of reducing drag? Or what is it, exactly?
    Thank you

Swimming is about moving the energy under your body efficiently through to your feet. It’s like a boat you want the energy to displace to the centre of your body and be broken by the kick. When you pull wide the energy is loss and the body begins to rock losing power through the arm shape created by the rib area and the pull through diamond. You want to keep the power diamond created by the inward sweep tight and close to the body pushing the energy towards your feet. It’s like a boost on a boost working together which gives you a huge advantage.
