I own a Hebrew - English Old Testament and trusted it, one day I came across this or an earlier video about Yesha'yahu 9:6, I did question what you were saying, over a period of time I started to find other verses in the Christian Bible that had been altered, and added. I came back to your teaching of Yesha'yahu 9:6 after purchasing the Tenakh and I was shocked to see that you were right about that verse. The Christian Bible is corrupt, I now rely on the Tenakh for the truth. Thank you Rabbi for showing the real truth.
Regardless of the hair splitting this rabbit is reaching for across multiple translations, the text in any version still describes a king in the line of David from the region of Galilee called mighty God, wonderful counselor establishs a kingdom forever. What Jewish king BEFORE isaiah could that remotely be describing. If any part is wrong, then that's not the person described
@andrewboyd8974 • 8mo ago Actually you're not telling the truth on this because in rabbinic Judaism in the Talmud and The Midrashic writings. They say that Hezekiah was not chosen to be the Messiah because just a simple reasons his kingdom did not last long and then the prophecy it says forever without end King hezekiah's throne ended and he reigned it for a short amount of time thus how could he have reigned like the prophecy said Forever and without end if he died? Also Hezekiah son guess what his name was Manasseh the most evilest King in Judah's history and yes Hezekiah is his father... And also according to the natural reading of the text without wild interpretations making it difficult to interpret. It actually is in perfect harmony because in Egypt a pharaoh would have four names and this is something that was given in the same matter too the child that was being born. Also in Rabbanic Traditions there are some that says it just applies to the Messiah and there are many rabbis to attest to the fact that the names refer to the child for example rabbi luzzato And Abraham bin Ezra and a lot of important rabbis agreed that it applies to the child but like I said it doesn't apply to Hezekiah because he falls short... And besides you're missing the most important point that within that prophecy that is recognized as Messianic commentators have compared it with Micah 5:2 about the messiah's eternal nature even in the Targum the ancient araramic translation recognizes it has a Messianic prophecy within it... HEZEKIAH DIED THE PROPHECY STATES THAT IS GOVERNMENT AND PEACE WILL BE FOREVER WITHOUT END 4 GENERATIONS LATER FROM ISAIAH'S TIME THEY WENT INTO THE BABYLONIAN EXILE SO HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN HEZEKIAH SHORT LIVED KINGDOM?
By the most high!, If I was a multi millionaire I would fund the Rabbi to have a tv show on cable tv and would advertise it in every possible channel in all english, portuguese & spanish speaking countries. Dear Gustavo. Millionaires tend to put their money to promote mind-altering to support inappropriate goals. Do I have to say a few names about your representatives? Millionaire seldom chooses, if ever, his favorites on the same basis as God.
@Mike Cribbage How do you explain the appalling mistranslations and decontextualized quotations so prevalent in Christian liturgy? Or , for that matter, the utter failure of Jesus to bring a messianic era? Death is no achievement. We all do it.

It is hard to listen to so much content and try and pull out the central points but I think the very end presented a central point. Rabbi Singer says that it doesn't mean anything that the child's name would be called "Mighty God" because the name Hezekiah means "Mighty God". He asked me to look it up, so I did. Hezekiah means "God is mighty" but the child in Isaiah 9:6 is NOT called Hezekiah! The child in Isaiah 9:6 is called "El Gibbor" which is not the same thing at all. I get the feeling that the information presented in this video is meant to muddle rather than clarify.
nana kojo: Singer goes into more detail in THIS video for those who can handle more intellectual information. There are shorter and more succinct videos by Rabbi Singer about this subject for people who have difficulty understanding all of the data.
threatening people to worship the demigod is what you guys know best. Where in the Messianic prophecies are we commanded by G-d to accept the Messiah even though your Jesus is nothing but an idol? We rejected your demigod for these reasons, see Exodus 20:4, Deuteronomy 4:16-18. G-d is not a man, see Hosea 11:9, 1 Samuel 15:29, Numbers 23:19. G-d has no Jesus besides Him, see Hosea 13:4, 1 Kings 8:60, Isaiah 45:5-6, 1 Chronicles 17:20 . The Messiah will be a descendant of David and he will fear G-d, see Isaiah 11:1-3. Do you think G-d fears Himself and He is the descendant of David? The Messiah will lead Zion with the might of the Lord, pride of the Lord, his G-d, see Micah 5:4. It said " his G-d' differentiate G-d and the Messiah. Isaiah 59:20 tells us, "Redeemer will come to Zion to those who repent. He is not coming to die for anyone. Salvation is Isaiah 18:21-23, 18:27, Isaiah 55:7. No man can die for your sins, see Ezekiel 18:4, Deuteronomy 24:16. You will come in the end times to the Jews because they will be right 👉 says the G-d of Israel, see Zachariah 8:23
@Abraham Mani it’s so sad seeing all these Christians generally worship the father, the creator of the universe but in addition to him they worship jebus, almost all Trinitarians worship him as a distinct person from the father, so they have a husband; Hashem… but on the other hand they have someone else who they pray through or pray to and therefore it’s complete idolatry- it’s worse in that sense than just worshipping stones or trees and so on cos those who worship idols and so on they don’t worship a father, theyre not married to the father. That’s why if you look at the Ten Commandments, this sin of a type of partnership ie God and someone with God is a commandment what the Torah warns us even before worshipping stones, the 10 commandments in exodus 20 began I am the lord your god who took you out of Egypt from the house of bondage You shall not have the gods of others in My presence. - exodus 20:3

So pleased that I found Rabbi Singer. I've learned so much about how these verses were changed. @@TCgirl Not all Christians worship Jesus as God. The idea of Jesus being God is a much later idea that got established as orthodoxy when a particular brand of Christianity was created during the time of Constantine the Great for the purpose of uniting the Roman Empire. The first Christians were mostly Jews, they would not have worshipped Jesus as God. In fact it was a huge debate even in Constantines time to decide about the nature of Jesus. However, the fear of persecution which they escaped only recently then will have swayed the bishops to compromise on this issue for the sake of freedom. It was a deal with the devil.
@@rightousliving First, Yes, ALL BIBLE DEFINED CHRISTIANS worship Jesus as God. Jesus claimed to be God, which is WHY the Jews took up stones to stone Him!......" The Jews answered Him, saying, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God.” John 10:33 Why did they CORRECTLY understand His claim? For saying this: " I and My Father are One" John 10:30 Funny How the Jews of that day understood full well What Jesus was claiming but YOU don't, yet you call yourself a Christian. Look what the first Christians did when they encountered The Divine power of Jesus, after walking on the water: " Then those who were in the boat came and WORSHIPPED HIM, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.” Mat. 14":33 Also here When Jesus, through His DEVINE POWER calms the storm... " Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea OBEY HIM?” Mat. 8:26 Who has the Authority to COMMAND the natural world, and CREATION RESPONDS???? Those Jewish men new EXACTLY who He was...as it was written of Him in Psalm107:29,30- " He calms the storm ,So that its waves are still. Then they are glad because they are quiet; So He guides them to their desired haven." This happened right in front of their faces! God is the ONLY One with such Authority! Secondly, Constantine's attempt to " unify " his pagan empire with " christianity", was the birth of CATHOLICISM, not the furtherance of BIBLICAL CHRISTIANITY. Catholicism is NOT BIBLTICAL CHRISTIANITY....it is PAGAN IDOLATRY with Christian names. Third, you reject Jesus' DIVINITY, then TCgirl is CORRECT, YOU are NOT a Christian....as Jesus said here: " Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I AM He, YOU WILL die in your sins.” John 8:24 Jesus is The Great I AM!! " Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?” Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going[p] through the midst of them, and so passed by." John 8:57-59 AGAIN, why did the Jews want to stone Him????
chazaq, meaning "strengthen," Hezekiah means "God strengthens." Or name חִזְקִיָהוּ (Chizqiyahu), which means "Yahweh strengthens" Not Might God! Wherever (Mighty God) el gibbor is used elsewhere in the Bible there is no doubt that the term refers to God (Isaiah 10:21, Deut 10:17; Jer 32:18). In 2kings 18-20 or in Isaiah 35-38 not once Does Hezekiah receive any king of praise like in Isaiah 9:6,7. Only that He was Good like his Father David. The only slightly similar wording is found In 2Kings 19:30 and it isn’t about Hezekiah but the future remnant. 30 Once more a remnant(BJ) of the kingdom of Judah will take root(BK) below and bear fruit above. 31 For out of Jerusalem will come a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors. “The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. 34 I will defend this city and save it, for my sake and for the sake of David my servant.’” Not Because of Hezekiah but David who God made the Messianic promise with referenced in multiple places like Jeremiah 33:20-22. And David was Not given this level of titles and accolades found in Isaiah 9:6,7. When God is speaking to Hezekiah He gives him no special praise or titles. When God heals Hezekiah Nether God or Isaiah give Hezekiah a single praise or title. And that’s it on Hezekiah absolutely no biblical connection between Hezekiah and Isaiah 9:6,7. However Isaiah 9:6,7, Isaiah 11, Isaiah 42:1-4, Isaiah 49:1-13, Isaiah 52:15 and of course Isaiah 53! All have similar wording that is used only for the Messiah ben David. But what Rabbi Tovia doesn’t realize about Isaiah is: Jeremiah 33:22 22 I will make the descendants of David my “SERVANT” and the Levites who minister before me as countless as the stars in the sky and as measureless as the sand on the seashore.’” In Isaiah the work that can ONLY be done by the Messiah listed above is combined with Israel as the term “MY SERVANT”! And from Isaiah 40-50 God is rebuking Israel like for example 43:22-24, 48:18,19, 45:4, 41:21-24, 48:9,11. So in Isaiah 53 when it says this servant has no decent in his mouth, and is innocent He isn’t talking about Israel that He just rebuked harshly but the Messiah who will atone for others sins and bring Healing. Or do you think Israel was supposed to bring heal to and atone for the other nations sins? Israel and the Messiah were supposed to be in union together but according to what we see in Malachi and others Israel failed to keep up their end of their bargain after the return. But in Daniel 9:25,26 we see God already knew how things were going to play out For the awaited Anointed One as stated in Isaiah 53:8-11. Finally Read the see the similarities of Isaiah 9:6,7 and: Jeremiah 33:14-18,26. 14 “‘The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will fulfill the good promise I made to the people of Israel and Judah. 15 “‘In those days and at that time I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David’s line; he will do what is just and right in the land. 16 In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety. This is the name by which it[c] will be called: The Lord Our Righteous Savior.’ 17 For this is what the Lord says: ‘David will never fail to have a man to sit on the throne of Israel, 18 nor will the Levitical priests ever fail to have a man to stand before me continually to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings and to present sacrifices.” And based on the question in Jeremiah 33:26 the answer is Yes! one of the Descendants of David will be the chosen one! This is not about Hezekiah but about the Coming Promised Messiah.

When it comes to prophetic language it is not unique to find a perfect form of a verb used to denote a completed action that had not yet come to pass. This is because a prophecy that is given about an event that was going to happen could be recorded as if it had already come to completion to denote the prophecy would indeed come to fruition. The prophet who is obviously prophesying looks back at the event from the future as if it has already happened. The recording of prophecies in the perfect form is simply known as “prophetic perfect”. This is something that is either dishonestly ignored, or simply unknown by those that make the claim regarding the perfect tense found in Isaiah 9:6.
Rabbi Singer makes a lot more sense than the mega church show boats who strut around a stage after performance music/dance/smoke and dimmed lights have gulled the audience into wide eyed acceptance. We need serious study not nonsensical so called "worship."
@OTO TAKE: What you don't realize, is that the NT is a false, pagan, man-made, anti-God, anti-Jewish, hate-filled, replacement theology work of fiction that God, Creator of the universe, NEVER gave to us! PLEASE: Provide me with the scripture where God told us to expect a SECOND set of scriptures (i.e. the false, pagan, man-made NT), keeping in mind that when He gave us His ETERNAL (i.e. STILL in effect today!) Hebrew Torah on Mt. Sinai, He told us it is ETERNAL, and that we are NOT to follow ANY OTHER TEACHING than what is in His Torah. Christianity IS another teaching, therefore, we are NOT to follow what it says - God's orders! PLEASE do the research on how your false, pagan religion started, and you WILL discover that it did NOT come from God. Christianity has been outright lying to us for centuries, and is the biggest hoax ever perpetrated on mankind. THIS is why you need to do the research for yourself, and seek God's ACTUAL Truth by buying yourself a Tanach (Hebrew/English Bible, comprised of the Torah, the Prophets and the Writings, i.e. Psalms, Proverbs, etc.), so you can see for yourself what God ACTUALLY said to us at Mt. Sinai. This you will never learn from Christianity. They refused to study the original Hebrew, and are therefore in the dark about what God ACTUALLY said to us at Mt. Sinai, and are profoundly incapable of interpreting the Hebrew scriptures for us. That's where the rabbis come in - they have been studying the original Hebrew of God's ETERNAL Hebrew Torah for thousands of years, and are the ONLY people eminently qualified to interpret the Hebrew scriptures for us, so PLEASE continue listening to what they have to say. They are teaching us God's original Hebrew scriptures, as given to Moses on Mt. Sinai. It would also be VERY helpful for you to purchase Rabbi Singer's 2-vol. set of books, entitled "Let's Get Biblical - Why Don't Jews Accept the Christian Messiah?". There is a wealth of information in these books that clearly explains the VAST differences between Judaism and Christianity, and why NO Orthodox Jew will EVER convert to Christianity. I just bought these books myself, and can hardly put them down, because there's so much to learn!
@OTO TAKE: Uhh, no! Nothing you said happens to be true - go and LEARN from the rabbis! If it didn't come from God's ETERNAL Torah, it's FALSE, and IRRELEVANT, i.e. the "New Testament". BTW God gave us the ENTIRE Torah, i.e. Tanach, and the Oral Law, at Mt. Sinai. There is no "Old Testament" and "New Testament" - there is ONLY God's original, ETERNAL, Hebrew Torah (which includes the rest of Tanach, i.e. the Prophets, the Writings, i.e. Psalms, Proverbs, etc.) which the rabbis will confirm. Your Christian "Holy Bible" is NOT from God, and preaches AGAINST what God said to us on Mt. Sinai. THIS is what you need to study for YOURSELF and learn God's ACTUAL Truth, not the twisted, mistranslated, bastardized 'version' of what God said - which is what Christianity preaches! Produce a scripture where God ever told us to expect a SECOND set of scriptures (i.e. the false, pagan NT) after Mt. Sinai, at which time He gave us His ETERNAL (i.e. STILL in effect today!) Hebrew scriptures! We'd all be VERY interested to see what you come up with!

Ok, take the argument of rabbi Tovia Singer, that Isaiah 9:6 in Hebrew scriptures speaks about the past event not the prophecy as in Christians' bible. Even though concerning Isaiah 9:6 it fits to Jesus Christ, whether considering it past or future. Read Proverb 8:22->31 especially ver. 24 saying "When there were no depths, I was brought forth, When there were no fountains abounding with water". Psalms2:7; .....the Lord has said to Me, you are My Son, Today I have begotten You. Psalms 110:1,4. ... the Lord said to my Lord...... John 1:1->3; 8:58 "Jesus said to them, most assuredly I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM. So the traits of the person spoken in Isaiah 9:6 does not absolutely fit to Hezekiah as rabbis struggle to convince and mislead Jews, but it fits to Jesus Christ as Hebrew 13:8 says "Jesus Christ is the same Yesterday, today, and forever". So you Jews don't depend on rabbis to translate the scriptures for you. God is trustful, whoever truly seek Him diligently, will find Him as it is spoken in Proverbs 8:17
On the contrary. Jesus was an Essene Jew. His apostles were also Jews as were the very first disciples. They all spoke Hebrew very fluently and very consistently. They didn't cease to be Jews, but they did ALL become Christians.
@@ruthietaylor8756 The same situation exists within Judaism. Much like Catholicism with all its unbiblical traditions, Judaism has become filled with unbiblical traditions due to the Oral Torah. Jesus had much to say on the matter and did not mix his words when he called them "Hippocrites...offspring of viper! You keep teaching doctrines of men rather than the commands of God!"

I mean I literally looked up the kjv and it wasn't in future tense, he cites like a bunch of random new Bible translations to find slight divinations, but basically all English speakers read the kjv until very recently. Seems like a stretch to say it was intentionally twisted when the first English version is in the perfect present tense. Here is the orthodox Jewish version "Shmo shall be called Peleh (Wonderful), Yoetz (Counsellor), El Gibbor (Mighty G-d)". Sorry fam, there was not king that sat in David's throne called mighty God before Isaiah. This rabbi is so dead set on this being a past tense prophecy he ignores the first part of the chapter, which is clearly about the future, where honor comes through Galilee. There was only one man, called mighty God, one king that came lived in Galilee, one son of David, one man who was rejected and who healed his people through his stripes. Here it is in the orthodox Jewish translation "Nevertheless there will be no gloom in her in anguish. In Et HaRishon (the former time) He brought into contempt Artzah Zevulun and Artzah Naphtali, but acharon (afterward, in the future) did bring to honor Derech HaYam (Way to the Sea, land between Sea of Galilee and the Mediterranean), beyond Yarden, in the Galil HaGoyim."
And what is the translation done by Jews to translate this into English? Or are the Jews not interested in teaching people what their book says? It's a pretty poor excuse to say you simply do not know how to read Hebrew. If you wanted to be honest you could simply say you don't know how to translate it into English.

He is knowledgeable enough to be deceptive. Is interpretation of Isaiah 53:6 twists the use of Hebrew tenses to satisfy his agenda. I posted the reasons but they were deleted.

Isaiah 9:6 may not be about a divine figure, but when we read it with Isaiah 9:7, it certainly is a messianic prophecy, not just about the son that Isaiah had, not just about a pre-Messianic king of Israel.
@@hegagi839 My posted comment centered on Isaiah 9:7, not Isaiah 9:6. I am claiming that Isaiah 9:7 is Messianic. That said, I have heard Rabbi Singer say words to the effect that Hezekiah was a candidate for becoming the Messiah, but then when he sinned, he lost his chance. I think that might be the sense in which Rabbi Singer would agree that it is a Messianic prophecy while simultaneously saying that it refers to Hezekiah, even though we all agree that Hezekiah is not the Messiah (unless he rises from the dead and comes back as the Messiah one day).
Isaiah 9:7 says from now (with correct translation). What is the meaning of from now? the Christian idol didn't come until nearly 700 years later after this. Cannot refer to Jesus because a gospel claims he came to bring a sword, not peace. It cannot be Jesus, it's Hezekiah. And el gibor does not mean mighty God, it means mighty chief. The plural for el gibor, eley gibborim, was correctly translated mighty chiefs in Ezekiel 32:21 since there was no oppurtunity to force Jesus into it.
So the Catholic church changed the verbs from present to future to mean Jesus, but this verse is about Hezekiah and his name means Mighty God. Which that doesn't mean that Hezekiah was God. Very easy to understand. Thank you!

Isaiah 9:5,6 This chapter has absolutely nothing to do with Jesus. Isaiah is talking about the righteous Jewish king Hezekiah, a prince of peace. (Jesus was never a king of anything. It is therefore absurd to compare Jesus to Hezekiah. Hezekiah was a real king who was given royal authority by God.)
New York spot on mate. Most of the xtian world do not understand. They all use circular reasoning. Which means they provide so called evidence for the validity of the assertion, which assumes the validity of the assertion.

+Mario DiBlasio Isaiah chapter 9 is a biblical narrative. It is not a prophecy. Therefore, it does not foretell the reign of a future king. Please do not misread the text here. What you write is not in the sacred text under discussion.
The part people miss is this isn't a prophecy per say it's past tense, and even if it weren't this stuff doesn't fit Jesus... One thing to note it doesn't say prince of peace but ruler of peace.... Jesus isn't either one. Nor did he have a government of any sort and he isn't sitting on a throne.
I believe that Isaiah 9:6 refers to both Hezekiah and Jesus but I don't believe that Isaiah 9:6 proves the Trinity or the deity of Christ because both of those false teachings are lies not taught in the Jewish scriptures

When a Jew eats bread, he has to wash hands for purity then bless G-d for the meal. After being satiated or full, he must invoke the highest prayer in Judaism and that is to Thank G-d for providing food for the whole world, thank G-D for the land of Israel= the center of the world where G-D's eyes are constant, Thank G-d for the TEMPLE where people can come to for closeness to G-D and then the 4th blessing is for all the petitions that a person could ask for. This prayer was composed by Moses, then Joshua, then David and Solomon and Gamliel respectively. This is just one of his defiances. He did not fulfill the laws as he claimed in Matthew. Back then, in his time period, every man got married but not him nor Paul. He did not have children either which is a commandment for the world to keep going. He could not be the Messiah nor the son of G-D. A son should enhance what his father has instituted if truly he is from G-d. EXO 20: clearly states that there is only ONE TRUE G-D. It fits one king perfectly, Yeshua.

I get you don't believe Yeshua is who he says he was, but he was a Jewish man who actually lived and the amount of primary material about him exceeds almost any historical figure in the world. First of all, God created all language at the Tower of Babel. So you knocking all languages down because you believe “only Hebrew” should be taught, makes you a fool. The Bible is translated in every language on earth! No command is given: only learn and know Hebrew!! The Bible OT was originally written in Hebrew, the NT was written in Greek! Latin is an extremely beautiful language and the Bible was translated into Latin then from Latin to English.
Thank you for your insight. But one issue that I have is the following verse, Isaiah 9:7. If what you say is true about and the passage is about Hezekiah then what is the explanation of verse 7 when it says he will reign forever or there will be no end to his reign? Hezekiah didn't have an eternal reign and his reign did end.
Dear Rabbi Singer, I respectfully disagree with some of the things you mentioned. I am sure you would admit that aside from the obvious external meanings of the word of God expressed in Tanakh, there are innumerable deeper and even esoteric and spiritual meanings and wisdoms behind each of the words of God revealed to humanity. I am also certain that you are aware that the prophetic verses in the sacred texts are most often wrapped in hidden and symbolic and allegorical language for the simple reason that if future events were told in simple everyday language, there would be many insincere and evil people who would be abusing those prophecies for their own benefits and would confuse the masses. So that’s why the prophecies are expressed in hidden language and only those who are spiritual awake would recognize their meanings. The other thing is sometimes the prophecies are expressed in past or perfect tense indicating their certainty of occurring. This is not just me saying it but also those experts in the field of literary religious texts: “The prophetic perfect tense is a literary technique commonly used in religious texts, which describes future events that are so certain to happen that they are referred to in the past tense as if they had already happened.” Source: (Zuck, Roy B. (1 April 2002). Basic Bible Interpretation. David C Cook. p. 117.) The category of "prophetic perfect" was already suggested by medieval Hebrew grammarians, such as David Kimhi: "The matter is as clear as though it had already passed,"or Isaac ben Yedaiah: "The rabbis of blessed memory followed, in these words of theirs, in the paths of the prophets who speak of something which will happen in the future in the language of the past. Since they saw in prophetic vision that which was to occur in the future, they spoke about it in the past tense and testified firmly that it had happened, to teach the certainty of his [God's] words -- may he be blessed -- and his positive promise that can never change and his beneficent message that will not be altered." (Isaac ben Yedaiah). Source: (Robert Chazan, Daggers of Faith (Berkeley: UC Press, 1989), p. 87) Wilhelm Gesenius describes it as follows: "The perfect serves to express actions, events, or states, which the speaker wishes to represent from the point of view of completion, whether they belong to a determinate past time, or extend into the present, or while still future, are pictured as in their completed state." (GKC §106a). Source: ( Wilhelm Gesenius, E. Kautzsch, and A. E. Cowley, Gesenius' Hebrew Grammar ( Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1910). "[The perfect can be used to] express facts which are undoubtedly imminent, and, therefore, in the imagination of the speaker, already accomplished (perfectum confidentiae), e.g. Nu 17:27... Gn 30:13, 1 S 6:5 ..., Pr 4:2. Even in interrogative sentences, Gn 18:12, Nu 17:28, 23:10, Ju 9:9, 11, Zc 4:10 (?), Pr 22:20.8 This use of the perfect occurs most frequently in prophetic language (perfectum propheticum). The prophet so transports himself in imagination into the future that he describes the future event as if it had been already seen or heard by him, e.g. Is 5:13 ...; 19:7, Jb 5:20, 2 Ch 20:37. Not infrequently the imperfect interchanges with such perfects either in the parallel member or further on in the narrative." (GKC §106n) ibid. According to Waltke & O'Connor: "Referring to absolute future time, a perfective form may be persistent or accidental. A persistent (future) perfectiverepresents a single situation extending from the present into the future.... With an accidental perfective a speaker vividly and dramatically represents a future situation both as complete and as independent. ... This use is especially frequent in prophetic address (hence it is also called the "prophetic perfect" or "perfective of confidence")." Source: (Waltke and O'Connor, §30.5.1e, 489-90) Klein has attempted to identify all established instances of the prophetic perfect. Notarius, siding with Rogland, argues that the "prophetic perfect" is "a metaphorical use of the past tense in the retrospective future-oriented report." Sources: (George Linam Klein, "The 'Prophetic Perfect'" Journal of Northwest Semitic Languages 16 (1990): 45-60) (Max F. (Tania Notarius, The Verb in Archaic Biblical Poetry: A Discursive, Typological, and Historical Investigation of the Tense System (Leiden; Boston: Brill, 2013), p.88.) “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways," says the Lord "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts [higher] than your thoughts.” (Tanakh, Isaiah 55:8-9)

Interestingly my New American Bible Revised Edition (a Catholic translation) has in Isaiah 9:5 For a child is born to us, a son is given to us; upon his shoulder dominion rests. They name him Wonder-Counselor, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace. 9:6 His dominion is vast and forever peaceful....

@@susamongus9981 Your can read isaiah 9 in the orthodox Jewish version and it doesn't change the meaning of this chapter from the kjv at all (the kjv, the most widely used English Bible isn't in future tense either). "For unto us a yeled is born, unto us ben is given; and the misrah (dominion) shall be upon his shoulder; and Shmo shall be called Peleh (Wonderful), Yoetz (Counsellor), El Gibbor (Mighty G-d), Avi Ad (Possessor of Eternity), Sar Shalom (Prince of Peace) [T.N. Only through G-d's Word can we know G-d's salvation". Please read the entire chapter, starting with the first verse, about this Counsellor, this man called mighty God, who lived in the area of Galilee. There is no descendant of David that's fit this description before isaiah, nor would a prophet of the Lord speak in such a confusing way about something in the past that you'd need to study you're entire life and spend countless hours to uncover only for it to barely even remotely fit the person it's describing. It fits one king perfectly, Yeshua.
great.. so this guy just gave the explanation of isaiah speakung in past tense.. so he basically just told u that the prophet isaiah wasnt a prophet at all.. he has been downgraded to a historian
This Isaiah passage is NOT "the Christian proof" that Yeshua is Divine. No good Bible scholar (Christian or Jew) would ever hang their theology on just one passage like Isaiah 9:6 (or Isaiah 9:5 in the Tanakh). That's silly. Both the Tanakh and the Brit Chadashah are full of passages that represent the Messiah as a Divine manifestation of YHVH. Yeshua said so Himself many many times. The Isaiah passage is simply one such example from the Tanakh.
False analogy Hezekiah has no connection with Isaiah 9:6 and there are other titles in the verse as well Wonderful Counselor Mighty God Prince of Peace It's crystal clear
@Rabbi Tovia Singer, but for the sake of argument, any prophecy can be in the perfect tense as the Nevi sees things that have happened in the future. Or not?
Quran: Chapter:2 verse: 79. So woe to those who write the "scripture" with their own hands, then say, "This is from Allah ," in order to exchange it for a small price. Woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for what they earn.
+Libera Nos Domine Please be advised that the Greek translation of the Hebrew Scriptures was composed by Christian theologians. It is not accurate. The original Jewish Greek translation was limited to the Pentateuch. It is therefore better to learn Hebrew in order to appreciate Tanakh. (Rabbi Singer discusses the subject of the Septuagint. He correctly indicates that the original rabbinic Septuagint was lost in antiquity.)
New York wow.. u said like if the greek spuagint lost in entiquity was a good translation of the real tanakh or bible.. there will be no need of Jewish people and moreover will think there is only Greek language in the past.. like it have always becoming now In all authoritative bibles like KJV that is derived from latin/vulgate..(not even greek)

Actually you're not telling the truth on this because in rabbinic Judaism in the Talmud and The Midrashic writings. And besides you're missing the most important point that within that prophecy that is recognized as Messianic commentators have compared it with Micah 5:2 about the messiah's eternal nature even in the Targum the ancient araramic translation recognizes it has a Messianic prophecy within it....
With my respect to you Rabbi, the verbs in the perfect form can mean a general thing that may happen in the future because most semitic languages don’t have a future tense but rather they use a form of the present tense to express the future. I speak a semitic language and it is the same in my language : يولد Youlad it is perfect but it means the future for sure

Hezekiah doesn’t mean “mighty God.” It means “Jehovah is my strength.” In one, Hezekiah is referred to as God, in the other Hezekiah is turning to God for strength.
Exactly. It just goes to show you that he knows he’s lying. I was on the fence at first (coming from a Christian background) I personally never liked the idea and message of the New Testament as opposed to the Old Testament because I felt like it is an excuse for wicked people to continue to do wickedness against God’s people and then tell us to turn the other cheek. But after seeing this verse it is undeniable that it can’t be talking about Hezekiah because it says Mighty God, Everlasting Father and later goes on to talk about establishing never ending peace during his governance. Tovia and the rest of the Othordox Jews are waiting for the Antichrist to be their messiah.

According to your explanations and apply it to the scripture of Isaiah 9:6, are you saying that Isaiah is calling Hezekiah (13th king of Judah) "the mighty God, the everlasting Father"? And how does this explains the verses of Isaiah 9:1-2 when it talks about a great light shine on the land of Zebulun and Naphtali which was part of the Kingdom of Israel. The Kingdom of Israel has been conquered by the Assyrian Empire during the time of Hezekiah. According to the scripture it didn't mentioned Hezekiah did everything to the land of Zebulun and Naphtal specifically including inspiring them to repent. If any, it was only God who killed the 185000 Assyrian soldiers saving the Kingdom of Judah. However, according to the New Testament, Jesus was raised up and starts his missionary at Galilee which is a city in between the land of Zebulun and Naphtali.
It doesnt talk about Hezekiah because in the next verse. verse 7 it says his peace will be forever and he will reign on Davids throne forever, therefore it cant be Hezekiah, but Isaiah is talking about the messiah. How blind can you be man? You just skip verse 7, that tells us this child will reign forever and will bring eternal peace? Literally speaks about the messiah.

The question I've been wrestling with for years is that: why did God give people a book instead of directly talking to them? The book was written in one language which means in order that other people could read it, it has to be translated into their languages. During this process of translation some information is lost or distorted and people thinking that they are reading the word of God are in fact reading a mistranslation which causes them to come to the wrong conclusions about God and his commandments. If this method of communication with people through the book is so flawed, why didn't God come up with a better means of communication?

King Hezekiah is not "Mighty God, Wonderful Counselor, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." If that was the case then Hezekiah would be the most celebrated man on Earth. The only person who will bring peace on earth and has the right to be called Everlasting Father is Yeshua, the Messiah, the Son of God. This passage is talking about the Messiah. Note that Rabbi Singer didn't even mention the last three descriptive names (Wonderful Counselor, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace), could it be that there just isn't any spin to it? Please do explain Rabbi. One just has to look at the beginning of chapter 9 in Isaiah to notice that the passage is talking about the Messiah. In the Jewish bible it starts from chapter 8 verse 23. We the gentiles (the nations beyond the Jordan) are currently rejoicing at seeing the great light that is Yeshua, SALVATION, the Messiah and Son of God. I pray that all who read this realize that this prophecy in Isaiah has been fulfilled. That the reason I'm typing this right now is because Jesus told his followers to spread the good news (gospels) that the Messiah has come to the nations. It started in Israel and has travelled the world as prophesied in the Holy Scriptures! Isaiah 9 NIV 1 Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan- 2 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. 3 You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder. 4 For as in the day of Midian’s defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor. 5 Every warrior’s boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire.

Isaiah 9:6 says To him who increases the authority, and for peace without end, on David's throne and on his kingdom, to establish it and to support it with justice and with righteousness; from now and to eternity, the zeal of the Lord of Hosts shall accomplish this. The true mashiac comes from the line of David. Jzeus doesn’t have a human father so he doesn’t qualify.
Singer is correct and wrong at the same time. It's still a Messianic prophecy. I agree that Christians have wrongly translated this, but even the present tense usage still applies to the Messiah. How? Read the chapter before it. I'm using the JPS Bible btw. Start at chapter 8 verse 19. Read the rest of thr chapter and look how the people are walking in darkness. Then, chapter 9 starts wherein Isaiah is seeing something in the future, as if he is there himself he is talking with present tense. Isaiah is seeing the darkness of the people taking place in his futuristic vision, and is acknowledging from that perspective that "a child has been born to us". Because in that vision of the future the people in darkness have realized a child was born to them, who would establish an everlasting kingdom of David according to verse 6 (of the Jewish bible) then it says God will allow this to come to pass. CLEARLY that did not happen when Isaiah saw this vision, so logically it is a Messianic prophecy 🙄
A little confusing lol... YA THINK! HAHAHA!!! Psalm 102:21-27 21So the name of the LORD will be declared in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem 22when the peoples and the kingdoms assemble to worship the LORD. 23In the course of my life he broke my strength; he cut short my days. 24So I said: "Do not take me away, my God, in the midst of my days; your years go on through all generations. 25In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. 26They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. 27But you remain the same, and your years will never end. Hebrews 1:6-12 6And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, "Let all God's angels worship him." 7In speaking of the angels he says, "He makes his angels spirits, and his servants flames of fire." 8But about the Son he says, "Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. 9You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy." 10He also says, "In the beginning, LORD, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. 11They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. 12You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed. But you remain the same, and your years will never end." John 12:37-43 37Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him. 38This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet: "LORD, who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?" 39For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere: 40"He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn-and I would heal them." 41Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus' glory and spoke about him. 42Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; 43for they loved human praise more than praise from God. John 1:18 18No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known. Isaiah 6:1-3 1In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the LORD, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3And they were calling to one another: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory." Isaiah 9:6 6For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. John 20:28 28Thomas said to him, "My LORD and my God!"
So, if this verse is past tense (was called) speaking of Hezekiah, then where is he called “The everlasting Father”, “Counselor”, or the “Prince of Peace”? I am always suspicious of someone that takes 30 minutes to give a 5 minute answer, or someone that goes down this many rabbit trails. Also, before the Christian church and translators were established, there were thousands of Jews that died because they were convinced they had experienced Jesus AFTER his death. If this rabbi is correct, they would not have been deceived about the past tense/future tense issue, yet they were so sure of their faith, they died for it. Think about that…

Re: Isaiah 9:5 Church translation is wrong. ויקרא שמו should be "he called ". It makes a big difference. Who's doing the "name calling"? Almighty God. Thus, through Isaiah, God, Who is a great counselor and everlasting Father, saw fit to call Hezekiah שר שלום, a prince of peace. First off, there are no original Hebrew Bibles. They are all translated from the Greek Septuigant (the LXX) back into Hebrew. The Hebrew texts began to be translated in 250 BC by 72 scribes. None of the original Hebrew texts used to make the LXX translation are in existence, nor have they existed for over 2000 years. Aristeas determined that 72 scholars took part in the Hebrew-to-Greek Bible translation by calculating six elders for each of the 12 tribes of Israel. Philo and Josephus considered the Septuagint equal to the Hebrew text. *ISAIAH 9:6-7* The corrected translation from the REV Bible 6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on his shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty Hero, Father of the Coming Age, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end. We do not build our understanding of who the Messiah is based on one scripture reference. 2. The word translated “everlasting” is more accurately translated as “age,” or "ages." Isaiah 9:6 is conveying the message that Jesus will be called *"the father of the coming ages."* What ages? THE CHURCH AGE, the AGE OF SALVATION, Age of Grace, and the Age of the Millennial Kingdom of Messiah on earth. 3. "Father" in Isaiah is not a reference to YHWH. In OT times, anyone who was the first to do or begin anything new was called its “father.” For example: *a) Jabal was the first one to live in a tent and raise livestock, the Bible says, “he was the father of those who live in tents and raise livestock” (Genesis **4:20**).* *b) Jubal was the first inventor of musical instruments, he is called, “the father of all who play the harp and flute” (Gen. **4:21**).* In Isaiah 9:6, “father” is being used in this sense of the word because the Messiah will be the one to establish the ages to come, end the death penalty for sin for those who believe, raise the dead saints, and rule over all creation, therefore he is called the *“father of the coming ages.”* __________________________________________ 4. *"Mighty God"* is another mistranslation in Isaiah 9:6. Reasons: i). Readers familiar with the Semitic languages know that a man who is acting with God’s authority can be called “god" using the lowercase "g" in reference to lords, kings, judges, prophets, and even the children of Israel. For example: "I (GOD) said, 'You are "gods"; you are all sons of the Most High.' Psalms 82:6 Jesus quoted this verse in John 10:34-36 to defend himself against the FALSE allegation by the Jews that he was declaring himself to be equal to God (YHWH). Jesus of course disagreed with their false accusation and declared himself to be the Son of God and NOT God the Son. ii). The original Greek has no upper and lowercase letters so "theos" can be translated as God, meaning YHWH (the one true God), or as god, meaning lord, master, judge, king, ruler, or one with authority. The casual reader of the Bible would not know these things about the word God and god, or that it is up to the translator's to determine whether the context indicates the use of uppercase (God) should be used or lowercase god. iii). A clear example of the Trinitarian bias of most translators can be clearly seen by comparing Isaiah 9:6 (el = “God”) with Ezekiel 31:11 (el = “ruler”). *If calling the Messiah "el" made him God, then the Babylonian king would be God also.* iv). Isaiah 9:6 is calling the coming Messiah a *mighty ruler or mighty hero,* not Mighty God. v). Translators can use "mighty god" (lowercase "god") to identify the comming Messiah as an appointed authority, king, or ruler. However, it is an error to use the uppercase "God" because that is reserved for YHWH alone. vi). The phrase "Mighty God" is a mistranslation: English makes a clear distinction between “God” and “god." So a better translation for the English reader would be “mighty hero,” or “divine hero.” Martin Luther and James Moffatt translated the phrase "Mighty God" as “divine hero” in their Bibles. vii). Another clear example of the translator's error is where “God” is used for powerful earthly rulers in Ezekiel 31:11 when referring to the Babylonian king. How can a earthly king be God? It should be rendered god, not God. viii). The phrase translated “Mighty God” in Isaiah 9:6 in the NIV is the Hebrew "el gibbor." That very phrase, in the plural form, is used Ezekiel 32:21 where dead “heroes” and "mighty men" are spoken of. In Ezekiel the same phrase is translated “mighty leaders” in the NIV, and “the strong among the mighty” in the KJV and NASB. When used in the singular, it can refer to one “mighty leader." ix). Jesus sits on the throne of David in verse 7. YHWH does not sit on David's Throne. YHWH is the one that created David's throne and gave it to him. Conclusion: For all the above reasons Mighty God is a mistranslation. The context of Isaiah 9:6 concerns the Messiah as God’s appointed ruler. The opening verse of the chapter foretells a time when “there will be no more gloom for those in distress.” All war and death will cease, and “every warrior’s boot…will be destined for burning” (v. 5). How will this come to pass? The chapter goes on: “for to us a child is born and to us a son is given” (v. 6). There is no hint that this child will be “God.” There is no hint of any “incarnation” here either. The Messiah was to be a man anointed by God. Deuteronomy 18:15-18. He would start as a child, which of course Yahweh, their eternal God, could never be. The Messiah would grow to be a great ruler: “the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty Hero, Father of the Coming Age, Prince of Peace.” The Messiah "will reign on David’s throne (v. 7), which is something that is never be said of God. God could never sit on David’s throne. But God’s Messiah, “the Son of David,” could (Matt. 9:27, et al). Thus, a study of the verse in its context reveals that it does not refer to the Jesus as God or to a Trinity. It refers to the human Messiah, the son of David and the Son of God. If Isaiah meant Jesus is God, then the Bible would be full of contradictions. There can be no contradictions, otherwise the Bible is not the word of God. The Goal of studying the Bible is to harmonize the texts in order to know and understand God, His Son, and the message.
It lies to the world. Its one of the greatest lies ever in human history. The lie is not just on Catholics but on protestants too. So you have around 2billion people who have been lied to. 1/3 of the world has been lied to. Sad truth, and they are all around us too. Scary stuff!
I think Rabbi is strawmannirg Christians here .. We do not use this text as an unassailable proof that Christ is the Messiah . That proof is fundamentally more evident in his resurrection .. I don't think Rabbi that that you are being 100 percent honest here yourself . If it came to pass that this passage in Isaiah wasn't a prophecy concerning the Messiah , my faith would in no way be shaken But anyhow , what about verse 7 .. Verse 7 most definitely points too a future and everlasting Messiah . One who sits on the throne of David , who's peace shall be forevermore .. Rabbi , if Jesus isn't your Messiah , then who could be . There is nobody who could be .. Why do you think prophecies has ceased in the Jewish tradition since the coming of Jesus ..

Re: Isaiah 9:5 Hebrew Word Order vs. English Word Order Generally, biblical translations ignore normal Hebrew word order. In particular, the Christian translation of Isaiah 9:5 illustrates this basic mistake. The result is a disaster. Allow me to explain: A normal biblical Hebrew sentence begins with a verb followed by a subject, whereas its English counterpart starts with a subject followed by a verb. Now let's apply that principle to the verse in question: ויקרא שמו פלא יועץ...(Called he his name Wonderful Advisor Almighty God...) We translate the above by putting the subject before the verb phrase. Therefore, all those eloquent references to God go before the verb phrase "he called". Now it makes sense. It makes a big difference. Thus, the Wonderful Advisor, Almighty God called Hezekiah a prince of peace ...
Your argument Rabbi Tovia holds no water! Even if you change the tense it doesn `t change anything- it still talks about a Prince who is going to be `forever`, ´everlasting`, ´there will be no end`, and is ´Mighty God` and is also ´a child!` Hello? Sound Familiar..... ? The tense you might want to change back to present or past rather than future- but the message is about a person that is going to be EVERLASTING! There is only ONE who is everlasting and that is God! And in the same breath Isaiah calls Him Mighty God, Prince, Child, Wonderful Councelor . You just can`t read it in any other way, either in Hebrew or in Chinese! Hello? We all know they called Roman Emperors God- nothing new there! But when God`s word talks about a Prince being a Mighty God, it is certainly not praising some jumped up earthly king or leader, especially if his reign is going to be for ever! You laugh and joke, and use clever language and humour as you dance around the truth and no matter how many twists and turns in your clever argument you just can`t deny that this is a Messianic Prophecy and there it lists in UNEQUIVOCAL language the description that is strangely like He who conquered death by rising on the 3rd day and became EVERLASTING!
In hebrew there is no word for everlasting. The christians translate it as everlasting but in hebrew it just say a very long time. (Again this is my understanding, confirm this)
Dear Tovia, Read a Dutch Christian Bible. Statenvertaling Jongbloed 2004 Heerenveen In Dutch: Gen 4 26 En denzelven Seth werd ook een zoon geboren Gen 10 21 Voorts zijn Sem (zonen) geboren; Jesaja 9:5 ! Want een kind is ons geboren, een zoon is ons gegeven, All in the past tense! And in a christian Dutch Bible its 9 verse 5 not 6! I forgive you for not knowing all the bibles a that you use the word all, I myself do this sometimes to make a statement, even if their are exceptions. But now you know. 9:5 "Was placed on his shoulder" = Past tense 9:5 "en de heerschappij is op zijn schouder " S.V.jongbloed = That means it has been placed on his shoulder, Paste/present tense 9:5 "En men noemt zijn naam": translated in english And they call his name. = present tense/past tense cause this name was already given to him. It states El Gibor not Chazak Yahu in Isaiah 9:5 And what about the other names you dont adress, This is a commentary of Ibn Ezra: For unto us, etc. All this has come to pass through the merit of the child that is born unto us. We know that at the time of the invasion of Sennacherib, Hezekiah was thirty-nine years old;9 at the time of this prophecy he is, therefore, called child (ילד). פלא יועץ אל גבור אבי עד. According to some, these expressions are names of God, and the following שר שלום, the name of the child. I think that all these words are names of the child; he is called פלא wonder, 10101010 because God did wonders in his days; יועץ counselling; this is distinctly said of Hezekiah (comp. 2 Chr. 30:2); אל גבור Mighty chief; for Hezekiah was powerful; אבי עד The father of perpetuity, because the reign of the house of David was prolonged through his merits: עַד has here the same meaning as in 58:15. שר שלום Prince of peace because peace was established in his days; comp. 2 Chron. 32:22 Shalom
The explanation of Isaiah 9:6 would only make perfect sense if Isaiah 9:7 wasn't right there with it. The prophecy is deeper and richer than what Rabbi Tovia Singer makes it out to be. It is Messianic. It may refer to something that had happened, or that was to happen in Isaiah's day, but it doesn't stop there. It has a more powerful fulfillment in the future reign of the Messiah.
His name is "Yahweh strengthens" is different from His name is "Yahweh, the STRONG", the MIGHTY GOD Prophets do NOT prophesy about prophets. Prophets do NOT prophesy about the present. Prophets do NOT prophesy about the past. All prophets are prophesying about the coming of the MESSIAH, the SAVIOR of Israel. The MESSIAH, the SAVIOR of Israel is the CENTRAL FIGURE of the HEBREW BIBLE. ISAIAH 1 +++ +++ +++ YAHWEH the HOLY ONE of ISRAEL the LORD ALMIGHTY the MIGHTY ONE of Israel declares: Hear me, you heavens! Listen, earth! For the LORD has spoken: “I reared children and brought them up, but they have rebelled against me. The ox knows its master, the donkey its owner’s manger, but ISRAEL DOES NOT KNOW, MY PEOPLE do not understand.” Woe to the SINFUL NATION, A PEOPLE WHOSE GUILT IS GREAT, a brood of evildoers, children given to corruption! They have forsaken the LORD; they have spurned the HOLY ONE of ISRAEL and turned their backs on him. Your whole head is injured, your whole heart afflicted. From the sole of your foot to the top of your head there is no soundness only wounds and welts and open sores, not cleansed or bandaged or soothed with olive oil. Your country is desolate, your cities burned with fire; your fields are being stripped by foreigners right before you, laid waste as when overthrown by strangers. Daughter Zion is left like a shelter in a vineyard, like a hut in a cucumber field, like a city under siege. Unless the LORD Almighty had left us some survivors, we would have become like Sodom, we would have been like Gomorrah. Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom; listen to the instruction of our God, you people of Gomorrah! New Moons, Sabbaths and convocations I cannot bear your worthless assemblies. When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Therefore the Lord, the LORD ALMIGHTY, the MIGHTY ONE of Israel, declares: “Ah! I will vent my wrath on my foes and avenge myself on my enemies. Zion will be delivered with justice, her penitent ones with righteousness. But rebels and sinners will both be broken, and those who forsake the LORD will perish.
It isn't messianic. Every part of this prophesy comes to pass later on in the book of Isaiah and reaffirmed in II Chronicles. It is about Hezekiah and the miracle of the defeat of Assyria in Hezekiah's time, as well as the extention of Hezekiah's life by 15 years for the duration of which there was peace. [ Isaiah 9:4-6 ] "Truly, all the boots put on in wickedness to trample with, and all the simlah rolled in blood and donned in infamy, shall be burning as ma'acholet eish. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the misrah is settled on his shoulders; and his name is called ' *Peleh* Yo *Etz* El Gibbor, Avi Ad, Sar Shalom'; In token of his abundant misrah and shalom, there shall be no end, upon David's throne and kingdom, to strengthen it, and to support it with his mishpat and with his tzedakah now and forever. The zeal of HaShem Tzva'os shall bring this to pass." It's important to look at the name in Hebrew because the solution to this is alluded to later, in both Ch14 & Ch 25, when Isaiah relays to god the concerns about Assyria's coming aggression. [ Isaiah 14:24-27 ] "HaShem Tzva'os has sworn: As I have intended, so it shall come to pass; and as I have planned, so shall it stand: That I will break Assyria in My Land, and upon My Mountains trample him under foot." Then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden shall be removed from off their shoulders. That is the *etz* ah that is planned for all the Holy Land; and this is the Hand that is stretched out over all the goyim. For HaShem Tzva'os has planned, who then can foil it? It is His hand that is stretched out, who then can turn it back?" [ Isaiah 25:1 ] "HaShem, you are El'Ohai; I will exalt you, I will praise Your Name. For you have done *peleh* , your *etz* ot are perfect faithfulness." The rest is shown to have been fulfilled in Ch36-39 of Isaiah. And II Chronicles makes mention of it in Ch 32, reaffirming that.
Why did you leave out all of the Rabbis who said Isaiah 9 DOES refer to the Messiah? Also, your future vs past tense argument is refuted by the Radak himself.
The Hebrew Name in Isaiah 9:5 /6 is El Gibbor and NOT ChezekiYah. The Targum puts "Messiah" in the text. And then in the Babylonian Talmud, Tract Derech Erez Zutha is about Isaiah 9 and the names of the Messiah. The Midrash Rabbah (Debarim 1) has Messiah. Iggereth Teman (Rabbi Moses ben Maimon writes to Jacob Alfajumi) refers to the 6 names of the Messiah in Isaiah 9. What is your reaction Tovia? Shalom
My English bible reads: "Unto us a child IS given" Going on to say "of his kingdom there shall be no end." the latter is clearly historically incorrect when applied to a mortal king. . Is there an explanation for this?
Remember that the context of the Book of Isaiah is that the nation was beginning its slide down into corruption and destruction. The point of all this was to wake up the nation. The verse is telling the people what CAN result from this event, what SHOULD be the result, if they open their eyes!

I have a similar story: come from a roman catholic/muslim home, .... It is our pilgrimage in this world to seek God and His Kingdom, the rest He will add what we need. It will be plenteous, not after the standards of this world, though. The less we have, the humbler are we, and we seek Him more. Our God is good and provides for daily needs. I am glad we are together in this and can be encouraging to one another in such times, narcissistic and turbulent times. Times, in which few seek the truth of God. May the LORD ALMIGHTY sustain those in our Messiah YAHSHUA, until his coming. Praise Honor Glory and Blessings unto our God of Israel, God of Abraham, Isaak and Jacob
@andrewboyd8974 • 8mo ago
Actually you're not telling the truth on this because in rabbinic Judaism in the Talmud and The Midrashic writings. They say that Hezekiah was not chosen to be the Messiah because just a simple reasons his kingdom did not last long and then the prophecy it says forever without end King hezekiah's throne ended and he reigned it for a short amount of time thus how could he have reigned like the prophecy said
Forever and without end if he died?
Also Hezekiah son guess what his name was
Manasseh the most evilest King in Judah's history and yes Hezekiah is his father... And also according to the natural reading of the text without wild interpretations making it difficult to interpret. It actually is in perfect harmony because in Egypt a pharaoh would have four names and this is something that was given in the same matter too the child that was being born. Also in Rabbanic Traditions there are some that says it just applies to the Messiah and there are many rabbis to attest to the fact that the names refer to the child for example rabbi luzzato
And Abraham bin Ezra and a lot of important rabbis agreed that it applies to the child but like I said it doesn't apply to Hezekiah because he falls short... And besides you're missing the most important point that within that prophecy that is recognized as Messianic commentators have compared it with Micah 5:2 about the messiah's eternal nature even in the Targum the ancient araramic translation recognizes it has a Messianic prophecy within it... HEZEKIAH DIED THE PROPHECY STATES THAT IS GOVERNMENT AND PEACE WILL BE FOREVER WITHOUT END 4 GENERATIONS LATER FROM ISAIAH'S TIME THEY WENT INTO THE BABYLONIAN EXILE
SO HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN HEZEKIAH SHORT
LIVED KINGDOM?

It is hard to listen to so much content and try and pull out the central points but I think the very end presented a central point. Rabbi Singer says that it doesn't mean anything that the child's name would be called "Mighty God" because the name Hezekiah means "Mighty God". He asked me to look it up, so I did. Hezekiah means "God is mighty" but the child in Isaiah 9:6 is NOT called Hezekiah! The child in Isaiah 9:6 is called "El Gibbor" which is not the same thing at all. I get the feeling that the information presented in this video is meant to muddle rather than clarify.

@Abraham Mani You are not serious right?
threatening people to worship the demigod is what you guys know best.

Jesus claimed to be God, which is WHY the Jews took up stones to stone Him!......" The Jews answered Him, saying, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God.” John 10:33
Why did they CORRECTLY understand His claim? For saying this: " I and My Father are One" John 10:30
Funny How the Jews of that day understood full well What Jesus was claiming but YOU don't, yet you call yourself a Christian.
Look what the first Christians did when they encountered The Divine power of Jesus, after walking on the water: " Then those who were in the boat came and WORSHIPPED HIM, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.” Mat. 14":33
Also here When Jesus, through His DEVINE POWER calms the storm...
" Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea OBEY HIM?” Mat. 8:26
Who has the Authority to COMMAND the natural world, and CREATION RESPONDS????
Third, you reject Jesus' DIVINITY, then TCgirl is CORRECT, YOU are NOT a Christian....as Jesus said here:
" Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I AM He, YOU WILL die in your sins.” John 8:24
Jesus is The Great I AM!!
" Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?”
Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”
Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going[p] through the midst of them, and so passed by."
John 8:57-59
AGAIN, why did the Jews want to stone Him????
chazaq, meaning "strengthen," Hezekiah means "God strengthens."
Or name חִזְקִיָהוּ (Chizqiyahu), which means "Yahweh strengthens"
Not Might God!
30
Once more a remnant(BJ) of the kingdom of Judah will take root(BK) below and bear fruit above.
31
For out of Jerusalem will come a remnant,
and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors.
“The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
34
I will defend this city and save it,
for my sake and for the sake of David my servant.’”
Not Because of Hezekiah but David who God made the Messianic promise with referenced in multiple places like Jeremiah 33:20-22.
But what Rabbi Tovia doesn’t realize about Isaiah is:
Jeremiah 33:22
22 I will make the descendants of David my “SERVANT” and the Levites who minister before me as countless as the stars in the sky and as measureless as the sand on the seashore.’”
In Isaiah the work that can ONLY be done by the Messiah listed above is combined with Israel as the term “MY SERVANT”!
Finally Read the see the similarities of Isaiah 9:6,7 and:
Jeremiah 33:14-18,26.
14 “‘The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will fulfill the good promise I made to the people of Israel and Judah.
15
“‘In those days and at that time I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David’s line;
he will do what is just and right in the land.
16
In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety. This is the name by which it[c] will be called: The Lord Our Righteous Savior.’
17 For this is what the Lord says: ‘David will never fail to have a man to sit on the throne of Israel, 18 nor will the Levitical priests ever fail to have a man to stand before me continually to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings and to present sacrifices.”
And based on the question in Jeremiah 33:26 the answer is Yes! one of the Descendants of David will be the chosen one!

@OTO TAKE Your words read as those of a fool who believes VIRGINS have babies. Lol.

Thank you Rabbi Tovia Singer
@Abraham Mani we must emphasize in Messiah and not to ourselves. What we say can help or harm the faith of others.
7:23 Not so astonishing - they know if they teach kids Hebrew they will cease to be xtian.

Here it is in the orthodox Jewish translation
"Nevertheless there will be no gloom in her in anguish.

Of course it is messianic, cause it is about the king Ezekiah, one of the legitimate Kings of Israel
So the Catholic church changed the verbs from present to future to mean Jesus, but this verse is about Hezekiah and his name means Mighty God. Which that doesn't mean that Hezekiah was God. Very easy to understand. Thank you!
Hezekiah doesnt mean that... and no read verse 7

Isaiah 9:5,6
This chapter has absolutely nothing to do with Jesus.

Please note that Isaiah 9:5,6 refers only to King Hezekiah . (The biblical text refers to nobody else.)
This is not a future prophecy. (Rabbi Singer is absolutely right about the past tense usage in the biblical text here.)

Isaiah chapter 9 is a biblical narrative. It is not a prophecy. Therefore, it does not foretell the reign of a future king. Please do not misread the text here. What you write is
not in the sacred text under discussion.
Jesus is the true Messiah and Prince of Israel.
Florida Gospel Tracts: Please open your eyes. Your YESHU is a heretic. How? Example: he and his disciples did not wash hands when they ate bread. Jew= means to be grateful.

Your can read isaiah 9 in the orthodox Jewish version and it doesn't change the meaning of this chapter from the kjv at all. Please read the entire chapter, starting with the first verse, about this Counsellor, this man called mighty God, who lived in the area of Galilee. Feel free to go back to the original Hebrew and read it for yourself. Reread Micah while you're at it so you can know where the Jewish messiah was to be born. I get you don't believe Yeshua is who he says he was, but he was a Jewish man who actually lived and the amount of primary material about him exceeds almost any historical figure in the world. Because of him, there is now a Tanakh in almost every house on the planet. Billions worship the creator, the God of Jacob, THE Living God of Israel. Love your teaching Tovia Singer!!! I learn wonderful truth every time I hear you!
Lying and deny go to hell

This is not just me saying it but also those experts in the field of literary religious texts:
“The prophetic perfect tense is a literary technique commonly used in religious texts, which describes future events that are so certain to happen that they are referred to in the past tense as if they had already happened.”
Source: (Zuck, Roy B. (1 April 2002). Basic Bible Interpretation. David C Cook. p. 117.)
The category of "prophetic perfect" was already suggested by medieval Hebrew grammarians, such as David Kimhi: "The matter is as clear as though it had already passed,"or Isaac ben Yedaiah:
"The rabbis of blessed memory followed, in these words of theirs, in the paths of the prophets who speak of something which will happen in the future in the language of the past.
Wilhelm Gesenius describes it as follows:
"The perfect serves to express actions, events, or states, which the speaker wishes to represent from the point of view of completion, whether they belong to a determinate past time, or extend into the present, or while still future, are pictured as in their completed state." (GKC §106a).
According to Waltke & O'Connor:
"Referring to absolute future time, a perfective form may be persistent or accidental. A persistent (future) perfectiverepresents a single situation extending from the present into the future.... With an accidental perfective a speaker vividly and dramatically represents a future situation both as complete and as independent. ... This use is especially frequent in prophetic address (hence it is also called the "prophetic perfect" or "perfective of confidence")."
Source: (Waltke and O'Connor, §30.5.1e, 489-90)
Klein has attempted to identify all established instances of the prophetic perfect. Notarius, siding with Rogland, argues that the "prophetic perfect" is "a metaphorical use of the past tense in the retrospective future-oriented report."

He correctly indicates that the original rabbinic Septuagint was lost in antiquity.)

Actually you're not telling the truth on this because in rabbinic Judaism in the Talmud and The Midrashic writings.
And besides you're missing the most important point that within that prophecy that is recognized as Messianic commentators have compared it with Micah 5:2 about the messiah's eternal nature even in the Targum the ancient araramic translation recognizes it has a Messianic prophecy within it.... HEZEKIAH DIED

In place of this, he centralized the worship of God at the Jerusalem Temple. Hezekiah also resumed the Passover pilgrimage and the tradition of inviting the scattered tribes of Israel to take part in a Passover festival. However, according to the New Testament, Jesus was raised up and starts his missionary at Galilee which is a city in between the land of Zebulun and Naphtali.

but they have rebelled against me.
The ox knows its master,

but ISRAEL DOES NOT KNOW,

They have forsaken the LORD;
they have spurned the HOLY ONE of ISRAEL
and turned their backs on him.
Your whole head is injured,
your whole heart afflicted.
From the sole of your foot to the top of your head
there is no soundness
only wounds and welts
and open sores,
not cleansed or bandaged
or soothed with olive oil.
Your country is desolate,
your cities burned with fire;
your fields are being stripped by foreigners
right before you,
laid waste as when overthrown by strangers.
Daughter Zion is left
like a shelter in a vineyard,
like a hut in a cucumber field,
like a city under siege.
Unless the LORD Almighty
had left us some survivors,
we would have become like Sodom,
we would have been like Gomorrah.
Hear the word of the LORD,
you rulers of Sodom;
listen to the instruction of our God,
you people of Gomorrah!
New Moons, Sabbaths and convocations
I cannot bear your worthless assemblies.
When you spread out your hands in prayer,
I hide my eyes from you;
even when you offer many prayers,
I am not listening.
Therefore the Lord, the LORD ALMIGHTY,
the MIGHTY ONE of Israel, declares:
“Ah! I will vent my wrath on my foes
and avenge myself on my enemies.
Zion will be delivered with justice,
her penitent ones with righteousness.
But rebels and sinners will both be broken,
and those who forsake the LORD will perish.

Is God a sadistic ? What did God get from some getting torture?
The question I've been wrestling with for years is that: why did God give people a book instead of directly talking to them? The book was written in one language which means in order that other people could read it, it has to be translated into their languages. During this process of translation some information is lost or distorted and people thinking that they are reading the word of God are in fact reading a mistranslation which causes them to come to the wrong conclusions about God and his commandments. If this method of communication with people through the book is so flawed, why didn't God come up with a better means of communication?
he did. The Holy Spirit. Singer is intellectually dishones. Many of my posts have been deleted.

@Eleazar L. Magariño You must repent of your blasphemy and believe the Gospel.
Think about that…
Really ! YHWH did that ,and they give Hezikiah the Glory ? What abought the other Names given like Child, Son ,Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace ? Why would one call a king a prince ? I dont understand ,im sorry if this sounds sarcastic, I mean it to be a strong question. And the term Everlasting Father is purity strong.

It makes a big difference. Who's doing the "name calling"? Almighty God. Thus, through Isaiah, God, Who is a great counselor and

Hezekiah earned the title of prince of peace because there was peace during his reign thanks to God's intervention. In addition, the people and the land of Israel were united in peace under God.

This is a prophecy of the coming Messiah. Tovia is DEAD WRONG on this scripture.
"Churchianity" is also wrong on this verse
.
Reasons"
1. *Everlasting Father* is a mistranslation.
Jesus is never called the “Everlasting Father” anywhere else in Scripture. We do not build our understanding of who the Messiah is based on one scripture reference.
2. The word translated “everlasting” is more accurately translated as “age,” or "ages." Isaiah 9:6 is conveying the message that Jesus will be called *"the
father of the coming ages."* What ages? THE CHURCH AGE, the AGE OF SALVATION, Age of Grace, and the Age of the Millennial Kingdom of Messiah on earth.
3. "Father" in Isaiah is not a reference to YHWH.
In OT times, anyone who was the first to do or begin anything new was called its “father.” For example:
*a) Jabal was the first one to live in a tent and raise livestock, the Bible says, “he was the father of those who live in tents and raise livestock” (Genesis **4:20**).*
*b) Jubal was the first inventor of musical instruments, he is called, “the father of all who play the harp and flute” (Gen. **4:21**).*
In Isaiah 9:6, “father” is being used in this sense of the word because the Messiah will be the one to establish the ages to come, end the death penalty for sin for those who believe, raise the dead saints, and rule over all creation, therefore he is called the *“father of the coming ages.”*
__________________________________________
4. *"Mighty God"* is another mistranslation in Isaiah 9:6.
Reasons:
i). Readers familiar with the Semitic languages know that a man who is acting with God’s authority can be called “god" using the lowercase "g" in reference to lords, kings, judges, prophets, and even the children of Israel. For example:
"I (GOD) said, 'You are "gods"; you are all sons of the Most High.'
Psalms 82:6 Jesus quoted this verse in John 10:34-36 to defend himself against the FALSE allegation by the Jews that he was declaring himself to be equal to God (YHWH).
*If calling the Messiah "el" made him God, then the Babylonian king would be God also.*
iv).
When used in the singular, it can refer to one “mighty leader."
ix).
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty Hero, Father of the Coming Age, Prince of Peace.”
The Messiah "will reign on David’s throne (v.

Re: Isaiah 9:5
Hebrew Word Order
vs.
English Word Order
Generally, biblical translations ignore normal Hebrew word order. In particular, the Christian translation of
Isaiah 9:5 illustrates this
basic mistake. The result is a disaster.
Allow me to explain: A normal biblical Hebrew sentence begins with a verb followed by a subject, whereas its English counterpart starts with a subject followed by a verb.
Now let's apply that principle to the verse in
question: ויקרא שמו פלא יועץ...(Called he his name Wonderful Advisor Almighty God...)
We translate the above by putting the subject before the verb phrase.
Therefore, all those eloquent references to God go before the verb phrase "he called".
Now it makes sense. It makes a big difference.
Thus, the Wonderful Advisor, Almighty God called Hezekiah a prince of peace ...
thank you for lifting the veil so to speak...
(Again this is my understanding, confirm this)
Holds no water? Are you trying to disprove him with your KJV or NIV, if so then you didn't watch the whole video.
Dear Tovia, Read a Dutch Christian Bible.
Statenvertaling Jongbloed 2004 Heerenveen
In Dutch:
Gen 4 26 En denzelven Seth werd ook een zoon geboren
Gen 10 21 Voorts zijn Sem (zonen) geboren;
Jesaja 9:5 ! Want een kind is ons geboren, een zoon is ons gegeven,
All in the past tense!
And in a christian Dutch Bible its 9 verse 5 not 6!
I forgive you for not knowing all the bibles a that you use the word all, I myself do this sometimes to make a statement, even if their are exceptions.
But now you know.
9:5 "Was placed on his shoulder" = Past tense
9:5 "en de heerschappij is op zijn schouder " S.V.jongbloed = That means it has been placed on his shoulder, Paste/present tense
9:5 "En men noemt zijn naam": translated in english And they call his name. = present tense/past tense cause this name was already given to him.
It states El Gibor not Chazak Yahu in Isaiah 9:5
And what about the other names you dont adress,
This is a commentary of Ibn Ezra:
For unto us, etc.
2 Chron. 32:22
Shalom

The explanation of Isaiah 9:6 would only make perfect sense if Isaiah 9:7 wasn't right there with it. The prophecy is deeper and richer than what Rabbi Tovia Singer makes it out to be. It is Messianic. It may refer to something that had happened, or that was to happen in Isaiah's day, but it doesn't stop there. It has a more powerful fulfillment in the future reign of the Messiah.

YAHWEH
the HOLY ONE of ISRAEL
the LORD ALMIGHTY
the MIGHTY ONE of Israel
declares:
Hear me, you heavens! Listen, earth!
For the LORD has spoken:
“I reared children and brought them up,
but they have rebelled against me.
The ox knows its master,
the donkey its owner’s manger,
but ISRAEL DOES NOT KNOW,
MY PEOPLE do not understand.”
Woe to the SINFUL NATION,
A PEOPLE WHOSE GUILT IS GREAT,
a brood of evildoers,
children given to corruption!
They have forsaken the LORD;
they have spurned the HOLY ONE of ISRAEL
and turned their backs on him.
Your whole head is injured,
your whole heart afflicted.
From the sole of your foot to the top of your head
there is no soundness
only wounds and welts
and open sores,
not cleansed or bandaged
or soothed with olive oil.
Your country is desolate,
your cities burned with fire;
your fields are being stripped by foreigners
right before you,
laid waste as when overthrown by strangers.
Daughter Zion is left
like a shelter in a vineyard,
like a hut in a cucumber field,
like a city under siege.
Unless the LORD Almighty
had left us some survivors,
we would have become like Sodom,
we would have been like Gomorrah.
Hear the word of the LORD,
you rulers of Sodom;
listen to the instruction of our God,
you people of Gomorrah!
New Moons, Sabbaths and convocations
I cannot bear your worthless assemblies.
When you spread out your hands in prayer,
I hide my eyes from you;
even when you offer many prayers,
I am not listening.
@@المسيح-ل1ض Thank you!
[ Isaiah 9:4-6 ]
"Truly, all the boots put on in wickedness to trample with, and all the simlah rolled in blood and donned in infamy, shall be burning as ma'acholet eish.
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the misrah is settled on his shoulders; and his name is called ' *Peleh* Yo *Etz* El Gibbor, Avi Ad, Sar Shalom';
In token of his abundant misrah and shalom, there shall be no end, upon David's throne and kingdom, to strengthen it, and to support it with his mishpat and with his tzedakah now and forever. The zeal of HaShem Tzva'os shall bring this to pass."
It's important to look at the name in Hebrew because the solution to this is alluded to later, in both Ch14 & Ch 25, when Isaiah relays to god the concerns about Assyria's coming aggression.
[ Isaiah 14:24-27 ]
"HaShem Tzva'os has sworn:
As I have intended, so it shall come to pass; and as I have planned, so shall it stand:
That I will break Assyria in My Land, and upon My Mountains trample him under foot." Then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden shall be removed from off their shoulders.
That is the *etz* ah that is planned for all the Holy Land; and this is the Hand that is stretched out over all the goyim.
For HaShem Tzva'os has planned, who then can foil it? It is His hand that is stretched out, who then can turn it back?"
[ Isaiah 25:1 ]
"HaShem, you are El'Ohai; I will exalt you, I will praise Your Name. For you have done *peleh* , your *etz* ot are perfect faithfulness."
The rest is shown to have been fulfilled in Ch36-39 of Isaiah. And II Chronicles makes mention of it in Ch 32, reaffirming that.
I don't know how I stumbled onto this channel but it's fascinating. I love the little jokes the rabbi throws in.

What is your reaction Tovia?

too bad he's blaming the Church not knowing that it's his religious leaders that attributed Isaiah 9 to the Messiah
This is why God has, in His infinite wisdom, preserved Jews and their language, to point out the blasphemies committed by over billion people.
