Brings back a lot of memories. I was a fleet manager, amongst other things, in that company way back when. We had a fleet of 53 ft drop deck high cube Great Danes that hauled bread from the plant to the Minneapolis area. They were jerked around with single axle cab over Titans and Jimmies' with as short a tractor wheel base as we could get. On those cold windy winter nights, you could more or less plan on at least one of them laying the ditch before morning. Loaded they were top heavy; empty they were balloons. We finally beefed them up by modifying them with tandem axles. Finally, to tandem day cabs. It helped but never really solved the problem. So, I understand what you went through even though I never actually drove under those conditions. I just helped pick them up and thankfully the drivers involved all lived to tell the story. I did have a solution to the cold windy blizzard weather. I moved the hell out of there and became a "southerner". Life is simply too short for that sort of existence. At least for me. I'm rather new to your channel and I've likely viewed about half of your very interesting videos. I've even gotten a few fresh ones lately. Keep it up. I see you have passed another milestone of 60,000 subscribers. That my friend is very cool to say the least. Congrats! Y'all take care. As I now say. Being a southerner may be a bit dorky but it sure beats the hell out of being north in the winter.
I give you a lot of credit because it takes a lot of nerves to keep calm and get to your destination safely. Stay safe and God bless you and Little Bud.
Camera did pick up on the foot plus that one big gust. Man o man. Had that only once. I was on a way to a pick up in Mississippi. Just north of that last hurricane down in the gulf. Hit blinding rain and wind. Scary ain’t a strong enough word. Be safe and merry Christmas
Merry Christmas Brother, get home safe. We get those winds down here in Tx also. Those damn trailer skirts is what catches the wind. Tandems to the back have always given me the best handling, trailer but with those skirts, it’s tuff.
Kurt, you are a good driver, husband and father and a good person. The main reason you was so scared was because you had Bud with you. I am an old 69 yr. old retired truck driver that drove a cab over for many years I think it was in Nov. 1974 setting at a stop sign in Neb. the wind blew me over with 5500 lbs on the trailer. You did the right thing. I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL. MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and your family. GOD BLESS PS, THANKS FOR NOT USEING BAD LANGUAGE, SO MY GRAND KIDS CAN WATCH.
holy moly that trailer was certainly off the floor and its just not worth the risk to run in conditions like that good call mr Schmidt to park up we are due, a storm here in the UK on boxing day not looking forward to it another cracking video and please get home safe and have a lovely Christmas best wishes from joff in the UK
I left trucking in 2016. Enjoying your videos as a reminder of what life was like those 13 years. High winds were the worst type of weather imo. It requires every bit of concentration you can manage and even then it's mainly luck deciding your fate. Hope the winds died down for you. Get you and Bud home safe and enjoy your Christmas.
I so much miss driving thank you for do this videos and i have been there in the wind got pushed off the road one time went on too the shoulder and it was muddy and was up too my tanks lol but i do miss it so much and watching your videos is a blast thank you
Hi, Kurt. I am glad that you are safe my friend. Get home safe and have a great Christmas with your family. So Anna & I wish you alll a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Brings back memories of those small Towns in Kansas many A load i delivered from cargill high river Alberta to Cargil dodge city kansas use to park at the loves and Walmart
Your awesome Kurt. I love watching your video's. Them high winds are pretty scary stuff. I love how gentle and smooth you drive your truck. I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas. Stay safe!
Man just seeing you and kid together 🥲🥲, enjoying each other. I’m 41 and I never had that opportunity. God’s blessings may seems simple until you actually have the chance to experience the warmth in your heart.
That reminds me of some trips I did with my father when I was a kid. Tou knew things were getting bad when he looked over and said, "Whatever you do, don't jump. Stay with the truck". That was descending icy logging roads in the mountains of BC.
I just recently found your channel after trucker dan mentioned you , so glad he did love it and your such a straight forward good old school driver no bullshit or hype , like it
And i thought we had gust here in my home state of Fl. Hell that's hurricane type winds. Good job driving Kurt. That was definetly a pucker factor for sure.
My wish is that you and your family enjoy a Merry X-mas. As a former truck driver ,owner and fleet owner . I really appreciate you. only the best in the new year.
Great sounding L9 my friend, I hope "Little Bud" knows how lucky he is to hear that. I'm certain they wont sound like that when his time comes. If, of course, that is his chosen path. You know as well as I, if it's in your blood, it'll never go away. Shiny up, dirty down and keep 'er rollin'. 10-10
Hope you're home safe. Always love your videos, sure wish this one was a little less exciting. For your alls sake anyway... lol. You know its intense when you and me both are screaming "GET DOWN! GET YOUR ASS BACK DOWN!!!" At the same time. Thank you for sharing.
I enjoy your videos. In June of this year I was blown over onto my passenger side from 75mph winds in Elwood Illinois. I never really had "anxiety" while driving. But now the first hint of feeling that trailer move around on a windy day and I get real nervous. Glad you and your son were ok. Keep up the good work.
I saw on camera the rear tandems come off the pavement, I was literally frightened to death for the three of you ! 🤯Hopefully y'all arrived home safely and enjoyed a wonderful Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you and your family. I’ve experienced my trailer almost being blown over here in the Uk.Lucky it was an empty curtain sider so I was able to stop and open both curtains and tie them back. After that I was able to complete my journey with no further wind worries.
good call high winds with the gusting no fun at all I was almost blown over with 15 k in the wagon parked rite then 30 minutes after 2 trucks were blown over loaded most of the time you get one chance to make the right call Happy Trails.
I live in Las Vegas and see trucks blow over all the time in the Mojave Desert when the winds get up over 60 mph. Glad you made it somewhere safe for the night, and hope you get home in time for Christmas Eve!
Wow, happy to see You and little Bud are safe. Me and my Dad got into high winds in Liberal Kansas when I was around Buds age, I remember how scary of an experience that was . Hope you and the family have a Merry Christmas
We watched this today and I see the wind hit your trailer and oh my gosh told hubby to rewind and thank gosh you 3 are home safe merry Christmas and Happy new year to you all
Sir you did a good job at keeping control over you rig and. There's no load worth getting yourself and little man killed or hurt over. God bless you and your family and Merry Christmas and Happy New year from my family to your s
I have been through that many times. We just had the high winds out west. I don’t care how many times you go through high winds. It’s always a scary time. The best decisions is to park it when you can. But the wind still rock your trailer off the ground. Merry Christmas to you and your family. And the mighty hunter.
We used to pull 48ft drop deck vans. Giant sails were all you could say. Plus we only hauled bath tubs. So no weight on top of that. Had the trailer leave the ground lots of times. Never got used to it. Merry Christmas and be safe. Also the 53's used to not be that bad. But those skirts under them, just catch that much more wind.
Happy New Year! Whew! I did see the tandems come off the ground! 😳 Words can’t describe how one feels when that happens...some words slip through and that’s understandable. You have to be smart when you’re out on the road , especially when you got someone else with ya! You kept it together and I’m sure that it showed when you were scared. Now that’s a REAL moment...you told him that you were scared, but you showed wisdom and courage in spite of it all. That’s when he will respect you even more. As much as it’s important to make your deliveries and get home, your company and family prefer that you are SAFE and get there when you get there. If and when a company doesn’t choose safety over deadline, that’s when you don’t want to work for them.
Had that happen to me when I was first starting out in the early 90's. I was deadheading down I65 in Indiana and I felt and seen the rear tandems coming off the ground it was a very unsettling feeling. Those skirts really help to give the wind something extra to push with. Merry Christmas to you and the family Kurt.
Omg! I seen that trailer lift off my heart went up wit it! Even if ur tandem r closed in it would lift aswell. With no weight u ur a big sailboat. I'm glad u parked n I'm very relieved u and bud r all gud!
I just wanted to say what alot of other people have already said but be safe! Merry Christmas to you and your family! You are a true inspiration to truck drivers!
You be safe . theirs no shame in being scared especially when you have one of your kids with you .have a merry CHRISTmas and be with GOD he will take care of everything
Wow that was an intense vlog Mr Schmidt good job keeping your cool and not panicking little bud have a safe trip home guys. Merry Christmas Schmidt family
Glad you made it safely to the truck stop. I hope the rest of the run will be uneventful for you . Nothing but clear skies and dry roads. 🎄Merry Christmas 🎄to you and your family!
Crazy wind there Buddy. Be safe out there. Christmas eve, Ottawa Canada, 12 deg C, 54 deg F. 16" of rain. Will take this over your snow. Merry Christmas all.
@6.03 four wheeler tailgating trailer lifts and it looked like your drives come up abit too, four wheeler backs off, i got skid marks in my undies at that point. Glad you decided to park it again, best tackle the home run in daylight, take care out there. Edit; Wish you and your family a merry Christmas Kurt and also all your followers, keep safe people.
Thank you as always and same to you. Was talking about you tonight. My brother in law had kangaroo meat for Christmas I guess. ( it was a zoom call) we wernt there to see it.

I left trucking in 2016. Enjoying your videos as a reminder of what life was like those 13 years. High winds were the worst type of weather imo. It requires every bit of concentration you can manage and even then it's mainly luck deciding your fate.
