The Nick Shabazz Extended EDC: Inside the Nick's bag of tricks

  • Sharpfrumentarii, an Instagram follower, asked me if I've got an "extended EDC", whether that was a backpack or a manpurse or anything else.
    Well, today, I show off the pouch which lives in my pack, and contains all the various other little EDC items which tend to come in handy.
    Here's a quick link to the pouch I carry it in: amzn.to/2a0liIl

    100% agree with the pain/pant- craping remedies.
    The only addition I have is the ability to make fire. Most often a Bic or peanut lighter.

    • @mattbowman3641

      Thats what i was thinking or even maybe a ferro rod...

    • @edsaunders1897
      @edsaunders1897 5 лет назад

      Agree. I carry a bic. And it mostly comes in handy when it's somebody's birthday in the office, cake & candles are organised, but with the decline of smokers, nobody can light the candles! It's funny how often that seems to happen to me. Sure there's emergency uses too, but I've never needed a lighter for that, just for birthday candles.

      My favorite EDC firemaker is a firefly in the toothpick slot of my swiss army knife. Never even know it's there, but it's there.

    • @Jezus42
      @Jezus42 4 года назад +1

      In the same space you can have a flint and steel you can place a bic lighter. Now I carry both but you ever tried to start a fire with a flint and steel? Carry a bic or 5

    • @faethe000
      @faethe000 4 года назад

      @@Jezus42 The bonus of the firefly is that it doesn't take up any room. It fits in the toothpick slot of the knife.
      But the point of that isn't to be your main firestarter. It's for an emergency.

    That's great! I have a similar 'extended edc' kit with similar items. I've added a bit of wire, a ferro rod, safety pins, and a measuring tape, for example.

    I need to get something like this, not too extreme though.
    One thing you should put in the pill section is Benadryl, the pill version, not capsule. In a allergic reaction scenario they can save a life. I carry chewable Meclizine, for nausea, because my daughter and I get car sick/nauseated. Meclizine is OTC, cheap, and instantly effective. Add those two to your meds!

    An awesome pouch EDC nick, consider a patch to put on that. a prethreaded needle can be placed under the patch. Consider some waxed dental floss for minor garment/fabric repairs with(w/needle). A white lighter will come in handy, 1 to use as a light diffuser, and 2 to see fluid level.

    If carrying a lockpick set is illegal you can make a "ghetto lock pick set". You take apart an old windshield wiper and get the steel insert and cut it to a few inches long, you just put it in the lock and bend at a 90* angle and you have a tension wrench, then carry a few paperclips and bobby pins, they suck and ALOT harder to use then real lockpick but they do work. picked the deadbolt on my front door in about 5 min and have picked a few padlocks with them. small compact and fits in your wallet

    • @NickShabazz
      @NickShabazz  8 лет назад

      Yep, lock picks, especially for small, crappy locks are easy to improvise. Heck, a file and some scraps of spring steel from street sweepers created my first set.

      my carry set is a raimundo bogota set, and at my bench I have about a hundred picks. some are custom picks for specific locks (I've been on an abloy kick lately, so I've got a lot of picks I made for the abloy high profile keyway that didnt quite get me in but work great on other disc detainers. hard to say how much is skill and how much is the tool though) but mostly they're all hooks of various depths and thicknesses or duplicates of those hooks.

    I'd add a plasma lighter. You never know when you need to light something, candles, a fire or sear a frayed strap.

    Similar to what I carry in my backpack. I ride a motorcycle, so I have my backpack on me every day. I have more pills, but less lock picks than you haha

      No offense intended at all but in Chicago they steal cellphones at an alarming rate at gun or knifepoint (if you're lucky & they don't just knock you out & pick you over)
      I just don't want the guy to get my phone & my $20 😖
      Be well!

      The only problem I have with laptop shoulder bags is on how often they break. I been through 3 in 4 years before moving to a briefcase that can handle the stuff that has to be carried. Only problem I have with a backpack is when I go to work. It would destroy the shoulders of my jacket and makes you look like a highschool kid.

    You should carry paracetamol instead of ibuprofen as ibuprofen is a NSAID I.e an anti inflammatory aimed to be used when there is an inflammation involved and not a head ache. NSAID'S tend to be hard on the gastric systrm, as well as kidneys.. they can in worst case scenario lead to kidney failure or ulcers. Whilst paracetamol up to 1 gr every 6 to 8 hours is much more secure than ibuprofen, it metabolizes in the liver and it works locally and the security threshold for paracetamol is much higher than for ibuprofen. In fact in the UK we have almost stopped the sale of ibuprofen or other NSAIDS to the public, you can buy an emergency pack of a few 200mg tablets but that's it. This is because of all the secondary effects we saw from NSAIDS both in research and in practical examples. So unless there is an inflammation involved, it can be hard to get ibuprofen in the UK in higher dosis. Whilst paracetamol is sold to the public as it is considered much safer. You may have a paracetamol poisiimg as well, but the you will have to take in over 2 gr or more in one go and no one in their right mind do that. But it should be said as well that taking paracetamol when you still have alcohol in your blood, can as well be a receipt for disaster. But that happens with a lot of pharmaceutical products, so nothing new there.

      depends what kind of pains you're prone to. I only get headaches that I can't just power through when I'm hung over, which isn't often these days since I quit drinking so damn much, but I am prone to bursitis which nothing but an anti inflammatory drug or a buttload of opiates will help with.
      I generally prefer to carry aspirin rather than ibuprofen since it seems to work better for me and it's especially handy if someone is having a heart attack and is generally safer for long term use.
      you say the uk has almost stopped the sale of NSAIDs, does that include aspirin?
