I've replaced 4 tubes already using the "transom plug" method. Unfortunately, that did not work on the two tubes at the front of the engine. I'm planning to use your method to see whether it can dislodge the two remaining tubes. Thanks for posting this video.
Thanks Burner. It is Burner, is it? Not sure of your first name. Bentley manual doesn't tell you how to do this as far as I could find so took a while to pull all the info together. Really enjoying your series of videos on your channel. Can't believe you've got so much done already! Yeah, trying so do something a bit different so teamed up with another RUclipsr and it was a really fun day. Just got 40 GB of footage to edit down now....
Ah, yes, I know your pain! It's amazing how much footage one can accrue in a single day! ...And thanks! I'm pleased with the project so far! (oh, and it's Ben Burner!)
Happened to me too. My garage told me they see a lot of 986/987s with this issue due to the design of the drains. Their solution was to simply remove the grommets on the drain holes that can be seen toward the front of the hood cavity (the area the hood folds into) when the hood is partly up. If in doubt talk to a Porsche specialist garage. Taking the grommets out allows water to drain much faster and I've never had the problem since.
the drains are to the front underneath the hoodcover, you'll see the when you open it to the "service" position. also there's 3 drainholes undrrneath the batterycover. if your carpets are alraedy wet, i'd check out the computer underneath the left seat (driversseat for rest of the world, passengerseat for UK, Australia, Japan) get it out, get it dry as quickly as possible and get yourself some way to seal it, to prevent that thing from getting wet in the future. it's the immobilizer unit and when it shorts best case would be you can't open your car with the remote key anymore, wirst case you won't be able to start your car until you buy another unit and keyfobs with it.
Have you actually done a Cayman or Boxster 987 as its TOTALLY different no tubes Wondering if you can replace the inner ones without removeing the cam cover
Thanks for the videos, Neil! I'm sure they help those who are not very mechanically inclined. I must insist, though, that you quit mispronouncing the man's name...it's Porsche, not porsh! It's the mans name and not up for debate, lol! :)
i wanted to do this service to my engine, so i bought 6 of those tube with seals, only to find out that my car, a 2003 model, doesn't have these anymore.
I do like your videos
you speak clearly and slowly trying to convey meaning
sounds basic but it's critical for the listener!
R&R and BC...my two go to guys on 986 DIY work.
You sir have excellent taste :-)

As always, an excellent video, with top notch verbal explanation. Many thanks Neil.
Glad you found it useful Walt.
Awesome! I actually already bought my spark plug tubes. I'll be doing this soon! Can't wait for your review; it looks hilarious!

Thanks Neil for another great video. I love my 986 too. only a 2.5 but still fun.
Thanks Des, you're very welcome.
Thought about a video on how to unclog the drain lines? Can't seem to find how to do it.
Will try. Which drain lines are you referring to?
+Road and Race not 100% sure I just keep getting puddles of water under my carpet after it rains.

Good job, as always
Great content!
Nice video, really liking your channel!
Thanks for the kind words Jacob. Do you have a Boxster?
+Road and Race Hi Neil, yes I'm a new owner just got my first Boxster 987 2006 in the last month.
