    This is so informative thank you I needed this question. What kind of jar do I put my strawberries with a plastic lid or metal?

    • @TheCrossLegacy
      @TheCrossLegacy  10 месяцев назад

      A plastic lid is ok for berries but either will work. The gallon ones are linked in my Amazon storefront which is in my description of this video and that will hold two pounds.

    You can actually eat the stems of the strawberries. They kind of have a neutral taste unless you eat it with the rest of the berry.

    Thank you so much for this video! Forgive me if you already answered this in the video… although they’re in the jars, do you still store them in the refrigerator or do you keep them on the counter in room temperature?

    i just started doing this after seeing your instagram. excited to see how to prevent what happened with my Raspberries and Blackberries. Question: Why the 5% for cooking? I wasn't raised knowing this type of stuff, I didn't even know you use 7% to clean.

    • @TheCrossLegacy
      @TheCrossLegacy  Год назад

      The 7% isn't safe for food and you find it in the cleaning aisle at stores in the US.

    • @shaynalinkie
      @shaynalinkie Год назад

      @@TheCrossLegacy It's in the cooking aisles in Canada and labelled Pickling Vinegar. The cleaning vinegar here is up to 20% acetic acid.

    One way to get your plastic lids to last longer. When you wash them in the dishwasher turn off the dry cycle. I’ve been doing this for years and my plastic containers last much much longer I just let my dishes air dry or if I’m in a hurry I take them out and dry them with a towel and put them away. But usually after the dishwasher is done I just open the door and the hot steam escapes and they just dry.

    • @TheCrossLegacy
      @TheCrossLegacy  Год назад

      love this suggestion. I often open up my dishwasher but it is because I hate the sound of the drying cycle it makes my ears ring.

    On the pint size jars with more delicate berries do you need to use a metal lid or is plastic ok?

    • @TheCrossLegacy
      @TheCrossLegacy  12 дней назад +1

      Plastic lids are preferred for berries. Metal lids can sometimes give you more condensation in the jar for Strawberries but are fine for the blackberries and raspberries.

      No, they just are stored closed in the fridge. You do not need to vacuum seal.

    Strawberries are not a berry.

    • @TheCrossLegacy
      @TheCrossLegacy  11 месяцев назад +5

      That's funny you brought this up, yes I know a strawberry is not technically a berry but a banana is. The problem is most of the world doesn't know the difference to the scientific groupings of a produce item. We are working on our 3rd produce book and it is often a discussion of do we put pumpkins under melons and list them under a fruit, would anyone open the book to be able to find the produce item they are looking for if they were grouped in their true category. Carrots and carrots not listed under the herbs for example is another one since they are part of the parsley family. In general the things I am talking about are to help the home cook save money on groceries by reducing food waste not to over complicate produce.
